Avatar n tn Lung images indicated I had some minor atelectasis of the lower lobe. It has been 5 years and no problem. One may be asked do breathing exercises before and after abdominal, heart, or lung surgery. The exercises help prevent pneumonia when you are not able to get up and move around easily. Walking may be sufficient unless there is a special need due to pulmonary problems.

1275919 tn?1279836004 m wondering if there are any actual breathing techniques that may help me get this most out of breathing exercises. Usually I just take a deep breath in close my eyes and wait a few seconds and then slowly release the air. Does anyone know of certain ways of breathing that help when in pain?
Avatar f tn you need to go to the Doctor and find out why you are having trouble taking a deep breath and then depending on what the diagnosis is that will depend on what treatment you receive For example of you have pneumonia then the treatment would be antibiotics and maybe other stuff life steroids and breathing treatments, I'm not saying that's what you have though the only way to know what is going on is to get checked out by your MD Hope you feel better soon
Avatar m tn Aspiration pneumonia is a result of constant acid reflux into the stomach. You've probably haven't developed it yet, and you'll be probably fine, when you control your stomach infection, since this should stop your burping. Aspiration pneumonia can be only prevented, not really treated. Steroids maybe, but I guess, you don't have pneumonia already.
620048 tn?1358018235 Meg- You really need to be in the care of a good respiratory care physician. Has anyone ever showed you any deep breathing exercises? These are used as prevention...not treatment. But, they are very important. Speech therapy is where you should be going, if the aspiration is due to swallowing issues. Have you ever seen one? There are tests than can be run, through them, to see if your aspiration is due to swallowing issues you may not even be aware of having.

Avatar n tn It can lead to pneumonia. Often a patient is given some kind of device to blow into which helps to clear lungs and this is done very shortly after the patient comes out of recovery, repeated on some kind of schedule (hourly? every half hour?) Do you recall anything like this? You might want to get your lungs checked by a doctor.
Avatar n tn Kate l3 years ago I had to have two thirds of my right lung remove due to pneumacochial pneumonia, Since then my diaphragm has been paralyzed, the doc said when I was breathing in it was breathing out., My doctor told me that sometimes it comes back mine came from nerve damage,I use a inhaler and that is it for breathing Thank God, I am allergic to steroids , they throw my into pneumonia real fast, also I pulled my own vent and feeding tube and my vocal chords was damaged.
Avatar f tn To improve lung function practice breathing exercises. If the oxygenation is adequate, supplemental oxygen therapy may be needed. Any infection of the lungs, need to be tackled immediately. You may have been initiated on antibiotics for the pneumonia. Discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
4690747 tn?1358072597 For asthma, look into normalizing automatic breathing patterns in the brain, by practicing breathing exercises over time, until the subconscious part of the brain picks it up. Search for the Buteyko breathing techniques or go to the normal breathing website. It helps reduce the frequency of attacks and also reduces the dependency on medications. Also there's an emotional component in asthma, so reducing stress, will help.
Avatar n tn Hi bibban12, The thing about pneumonia is it's just a broad term for lung inflammation, and the air sacs filling up with fluid, but it isn't a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia.

Avatar n tn I recently had my puppy who was less than 2 years old pass away from aspiration pneumonia. I tried everything from antibiotics to oxygen therapy and nebulization treatment. Unfortunately, he just couldn't handle it and 3 days later he was gone. I've been thinking about it the last couple of months and trying to understand what aspiration pneumonia is and how it caused his death. The vet explained to me that aspiration pneumonia is an infection that can feel like a chemical burn.
Avatar m tn I also had a thoracotomy/decortication from empyema resulting from pneumonia seven years ago. My lung had collapsed. The pain is in the front of my chest and under my left sternum. I have also been told by doctors that it is scar tissue and dismissed. Most days the pain is manageable with tramadol, but high physically demanding days and driving for long periods in a car can be challenging.
Avatar n tn t stop coughing and my chest hurt so bad, I went in to the ER. After a breathing treatment, steroid, Strong IV anti-biotic, blood work and a Cat Scan the Docs said it was pneumonia. I finished the z-pak about a week ago and still don't feel better.
