Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia symptoms lung disease

pneumonia

Avatar f tn The cyst on your back is not related to the pneumonia unless it formed a track containing puss to the lung from the back. If you still have symptoms of pneumonia, please see a lung specialist - a Pulmonologist. They will order a CT of the lungs to look closer within the soft tissues and ask them to order Lung Function Testing to see if you are breathing adequately and have good lung capacity.

7900821 tn?1395192104 There are many causes of recurrent pneumonia including underlying lung disease either acquired or inherited (for example cystic fibrosis, with or without a condition called bronchiectasis), an acquired abnormality of your immune system, recurrent aspiration of food and/or liquid, aspiration of a non-food foreign body or the acquisition of an unusual/uncommon type of bacteria, to mention a few.
Avatar n tn In May I was hospitalized for a significant case of bacterial pneumonia left lung- I don't smoke and have never had any "lung related issues" (besides the normal colds/ coughs) I'm 52..
Avatar m tn Back in June I caught what I assumed was a bad cold, and had all the typical cold symptoms for about 2 months, treated only with tylenol. 2 months later I was diagnosed with pneumonia in my right lung, treated with levoquin, azithromycin, tylenol, mucinex, ibuprofen, albuterol, and advair 250. After a 5 day stay in the hospital, I was discharged with a clean bill of health. However, a week after that I had a brief episode of syncope while running, which recurred again the next month.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed and treated for COPD/Restrictive Lung Disease for over ten years, is it possible that whatever caused the Pneumonia also caused the bloodstream infection that resulted in replacing my heart valve, and can this all be connected to COPD/Restrictive Lung Disease?
Avatar n tn Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse) can occur without known lung disease. The cause is unknown. It happens a lot more in thin males than others. Secondary pneumothorax occurs due to disease. The most common is COPD, but pneumonia can also cause it. So it is possible that the pneumonia led to the lung collapse, but it's not due to negligence unless they refused to treat him for the pneumonia when you brought him in.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your comments. Bob, you were correct. They did not know what it was. The pulmonary doctor told me he didn't think it was anything but we would do another scan in April to check on it. I recently had a bout of pneumonia and he thinks it was something left over from that. I figured the PET Scan would be next if they had any worries.
Avatar m tn Several courses of antibiotics later and X rays, the pneumonia has gone but left some marks on the lung; scarring according to the doctors. Despite being able to cycle and run ok, I am still not feeling right and still have catargh on my lungs which is fighting to stay put. The worst is just not feeling that my head is connected, almost like I continually have had a glass of wine! Anyone else felt like this after pneumonia? I am an asthmatic although controlled perfectly by ventolin etc.
5601163 tn?1370701672 Could be residual changes from the pneumonia -- many times the xray takes longer to completely resolve than the symptoms, even after a course of antibiotics. Sometimes, pneumonia develops in response to mild airway blockage from a mass or tumor, so if they saw something (even small or subtle), they probably just want a CT to make sure it's not something like that.
Avatar n tn , are not typical of asthma. These symptoms are much more suggestive of incompletely resolved pneumonia. A lung infection can trigger asthma but the symptoms of asthma are never limited to one lung, and failure of pneumonia to resolve always warrants further investigation. You should have another follow-up x-ray, now. The prescription of Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol fumarate dehydrate) Inhalation Aerosol does not mean you have asthma.
Avatar f tn Our son is 17. Severe Cerebral Palsy, sudden onset scolisos at puberty. Spinal surgery at 13. Increased scoliosis and crankshafting at 15 years. At 16 diagnosed with severe restrictive lung disease. Right lung "caged" between spine and severe ribcage deformity. Removal of hardware, "fixing" of severe ribcage rotation not possible. CT scan shows right lung smaller than should be and breath sounds show very little movement.
Avatar f tn Have you ever had a shot to keep you from getting pneumonia? I used to have pneumonia at least once a year, but not anymore. It's been 10 years now. Also COPD can cause pleurisy, among other things. See a doctor who specializes in lung probems!
Avatar m tn Is it possible that lung scarring can be caused by varicella pneumonia? I have had x rays, CT scan, bronchoscopy and no-one has yet been able to teel me the cause of the scarring. I have had x rays many years apart and the scar tissue still exists. I am not ill, have no symptoms yet radiologists suopect PTB, Tuberculosis or lung adenopathy.
Avatar f tn I am worried to see that report. Is he suffering from any major lung problem or any major lung disease???? Please any one help me out from this situation. Any opinion appreciated!
Avatar m tn I have all the symptoms of pneumonia. The xray came back as either pneumonia or lung cancer. Small mass found on lower left lung. Treating me for pneumonia. I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains.
Avatar f tn I'm still suffering from a viral infection which gave me typical cold symptoms with pain in my right shoulder and neck , a swollen sore throat and a productive chesty cough. After two weeks I was prescribed, over the phone, Doxycycline antibiotics which haven't helped. It's been three weeks now and I'm still coughing up mucus and have been told I have infection in the base of my lungs. I couldn't say if the mucus was clear or had blood in it as I'd been swallowing it.
Avatar n tn Hi, There are two ways to explore this, first would be to explore any pertinent symptoms, and any risk factors for lung disease, infection, and heart diseases. Kindd is talking about one kind of fluid, which is fluid within the airways. I am guessing the fluid mentioned in the MRI is fluid between the lung and the walls of the thoracic cage which is an effusion. While fluid in the airways can lead to effusions, not all effusions are due to fluid in the airways.
378497 tn?1232143585 Hi, You are correct, lung cancer may present with the symptoms in the bone before the symptoms in the lung become troublesome. The absence of a mass lesion in the chest raises doubts however - the minimal pleural effusion may be worth exploring, but doesn't seem compelling as evidence of malignancy in the lung. The other cancer with a propensity for presenting with bone metastasis symptoms before the primary site symptoms is renal cell cancer - that may be another avenue to explore.
Avatar n tn thankyou for your comments, but which is the way forward for me? maybe reduce my bust size and lose some weight, would this help?
Avatar n tn I have been prone to pneumonia and bronchitis through out my life. In March, I had a ct scan of my lungs which revealed emphysema in the bottom lobe of my right lung and a 3.5 cm mass in the upper/middle lobe of my right lung. I went to see a pulmonologist who requested lab work, a chest x-ray, and scheduled a bronchoscopy for the mass. The lab work results revealed that the emphysema was caused by having MZ phenotypes from AAT deficiency.
Avatar m tn Long term smoking will cause a interstitial lung disease. The causes for shortness of breath are Bronchospasm, Pulmonary embolism, Pneumothorax, Pulmonary infection - bronchitis, pneumonia. The cause relevant in your case could be pneumonia or bronchitis. But, it is usually accompanied by fever, cough etc. Feeling of something in throat or heart burn needs evaluation; the possible reason maybe acid reflux esp. laryngeal reflux.
Avatar m tn A nodule in the lung could be an infection, lung disease or even cancer. They might also decide to biopsy the nodule. Also, you should quit smoking.
Avatar m tn This condition is usually well tolerated and most patients are asymptomatic if there is no underlying lung or chest disease.
Avatar m tn The approach to diagnosis of the cause(s) of your symptoms must include evaluation for heart failure, lung failure (including diffuse lung disease, as seen with the non-infectious pneumonias, and recurrent clots to the lung with or without pulmonary hypertension) and diseases that effect the muscles of respiration. I am surprised that a diagnosis was not established at the Mayo Clinic and that raises the question that the cause of your disorder may be a rare disease.
Avatar f tn I'm hoping someone can help me. I had community acquired pneumonia at Christmas 15 for the first time which required 2 nights hospital stay. Prior to this if not had any real health issues, ex social smoker ie maybe 2/3 cigarettes every couple of weeks for about 8 years until about 13 months ago. 7 months later I got pneumonia again (still recovering now 3 weeks later).
