I would take your dog to be checked by the vet. If it is his breathing which is congested, it is possible for dogs to develop pneumonia, and you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell if that was the case.

The pneumonia symptoms are starting to clear up I don't have a fever, never had a cough, starting to breathe better, and I have a lot more energy but still a bit light headed and throat is kind of sore and my voice hasn't return fully. Oh bobbe, I am so very sorry. I lost my dog Chica in early January to kidney failure too. Yes, dialysis can done on dogs, but it's very expensive and the equipment isn't available at a typical vet's clinic. The effects don't last long either - by the time the dog is in end-stage failure, you'd be looking at daily dialysis so the dog would still have no quality of life. I think your vet was absolutely truthful with you about assuming brain damage at that point.

This Sounds like a respiratory infection going on.....Common in shelter dogs....However, pneumonia can be a result if left untreated......Pneumonia causes respiratory distress (Weird sounds) & death if left untreated....Oral or injectable antibiotics (From your Vet) are used to treat.....

We did x rays and have had her on an antibiotic bc it seemed like the injury has caused pneumonia like symptoms. Abby is not in pain. She drags her front paw and will cough at times during the day. I am in search of treatment or a cure. Has anyone heard of a case like Abby's before. My heart is broken because she is truly an amazing dog. Before the injury, she was in perfect health.
As far as I'm aware, benadry is safe for quite a long time in dogs. The general doggy dosage is 1 mg/ per pound, so that's what your vet has prescribed - most people tend to go too low on the dosage. Using it for only the summer months should be no problem at all. I had a dog who needed it a good 8 months or more of every year and it never caused any trouble. Hope it works well for your Bostie!
We were there for 3 days and brought our 2 dogs with us (Ching-Ching and Khezu). We took them for a swim for about 10mins, swam and submerged when waves came.
