Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia severity index

pneumonia

5941382 tn?1377132724 I am sure you are very concerned and this is a very difficult question. The severity of the pneumonia on top of the severity of the cardiomegaly is what will determine what happens in the next days and weeks. Cardiomegaly can be from a variety of causes and, depending on its severity, can affect the ability of the heart to pump effectively. Its cause, how long it has been present, and how bad it is will affect the recovery.

Avatar f tn Some start to develop detectable antibodies in 3-4 weeks. IgG index levels can fluctuate and don’t indicate the severity or length of an infection but with a score of 8.95, I would guess that you have had this infection at least 12 weeks or longer. While it’s not impossible that your score could be that high after 9 weeks, I would think this is something that you have had longer than that.
Avatar n tn It’s difficult to predict what the prognosis will be, as this will depend on the severity of pneumonia, his present immunity status and the other co morbid conditions like diabetes. If his vitals are stable now, then with appropriate antibiotics and supportive therapy he should be able to recover well. Good luck with his therapy. Regards.
Avatar n tn It was repaired two days later. She suffered aspiration pneumonia and a UTI fungal infection in the hospital. She was finally transferred to a rehabiliation center after being in the hospital for 4 weeks. In the rehab center, they told us she now has MRSA pneumonia. What are her chances of overcoming all of this? She is on a trach and at times seems very coherent. How much longer do we let her endure all of this? She never says she's in pain or uncomfortable.
Avatar f tn IgG index values can vary from test to test. Rarely is it a consistent number. Both of these scores are a firm positive and tell nothing about the length or severity of the infection. It’s simply a score that confirms infection. Was this for HSV1 or HSV2? I assume it was a type specific test?
Avatar m tn You have good reasons to be concerned about your sister and her multiple health problems. Pain associated with her pneumonia should have eased as her pneumonia resolved. Pain at this time is not normal. The recurrence of cough and pain along with the abnormal X-ray findings of “scarring” and “a hole” in her lung suggest otherwise; that is to say that hers is what we would call complicated pneumonia. You ask, if she needs to be admitted to a hospital.
Avatar n tn Trigger finger treatment varies depending on its severity and duration. Symptoms of trigger finger develop when the ring, middle, or index finger attempts to flex closed while gripping. Stretching, ice, and anti-inflammation medications should be tried to start with. Steroid injections like cortisone are used as a treatment for trigger finger. Surgery is the last option to remove the scar tissue. Take care!
Avatar f tn The body takes up to 12 weeks to form antibodies from a new exposure. Anything over a 5 would be considered well established, as in longer than 3 months. IgG index values can fluctuate depending on test. The score has nothing to do with severity of infection and is basically a confidence rating that the test found antibodies. A higher count, the more confident the test is. While I suppose it is possible to have a score of 9 after 11 weeks, i tend to believe this is a longer infection.
Avatar m tn My father is 79 years old, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, upon exams they discovered he had a couple of arteries blocked. I think they said 40% blockage in one and not sure of the blockage in the other one, not sure what arteries are blocked. The cardiologist is recommending Bypass surgery, all the information I have read states that blockage of this type can usually be treated with medication.

Avatar n tn My friend has been experiencing LUNG pain, coughing up blood and excessive sweating for three years now. The pain is felt every time he breathes and has increased in severity over this time frame, especially when he is resting or trying to sleep at night. He says he feels the pain in his back, on the left side. His skin still has its natural hue. He says he has NO chest pain and no pain in his arm or other extremities. He says it began after a head injury during a tennis match.
Avatar m tn It was about the size of a quarter. Give it a few days I said, and it lessened in severity and after 2 weeks was gone. Then woke up to a similar pain farther towards the center of the chest but covering a 3 inch pain, it dissipated after a week, then woke up with a similar pain yesterday covering a 6 " area North and south closer to the center of my chest approaching useless man nipple, and it is dissipating.
Avatar n tn Hello Lukothomo, I am so sorry you are still having pain. And I am sorry you have effusion. I looked back on your post in July when you stated you had pneumonia. I apologize that I don't know you better. Is this Pleural effusion (I assume that is what you are referring to) from the pneumonia dating back to July? If so than indeed this is taking sometime to resolve. I trust you are seeing a pulomonologist. If not please do so asap.
Avatar m tn Is it possible that aspiration pneumonia (oatmeal lodged in the trachea) can exacerbate COPD and/or asthma, thus causing the mild hyperinflation on an x-ray? The 70-yr-old patient is a former smoker (most of her life) and was found w/ an O2 sat of 40% that was a result of the bolus of food that the paramedics had to "force" a breathing tube through. Keep in mind, neither the amount of time that the oatmeal was lodged, nor the amount of time the O2 was low, cannot be verified.
Avatar m tn When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred to (either all or a combination of) chest, inner lining of scapula (shoulder bone), shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger.
Avatar m tn For example, if I consume eggs then I get persistent headaches, brain fog, heart pain, increased blood pressure (I’ve had spikes to 165/105), numb and prickly skin, stiff neck muscles/tension, a burning pain in my kidneys, a changed sense of smell (I start smelling a particular thing that isn’t there and/or my skin is creating some kind of specific smell), and in general I just feel like I’ve been poisoned.
