Pneumonia or strep throat

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia or strep throat

pneumonia

Avatar n tn Untreated strep can lead to pneumonia and rheumatic fever. Strep throat is a bacterial infection that will NOT go away on its own. Only antibiotics get rid of it.
Avatar n tn I know strep and allergies are definitely two different things, but it could be that if he has an allergy issue, his nasal passages and throat get irritated from that and then an infection occurs - the strep throat. This past winter I, myself, got strep throat twice and pneumonia once - the first bout of strep actually landed me in the hospital for 4 days.
1995033 tn?1334163103 So I tested positive for strep throat n my boyfriend has strep throat n pneumonia... And im getting induced wednesday!!! Ugh this week can't get any worse!!
Avatar n tn I may be completely wrong and just have strep throat or the early stages of pneumonia (some of my friends have both of those, and I've been around them in the last few days), but I figured I would ask on here. I'm not sure what the typical time frame is for symptoms to appear, and I read that gonorrhea of the throat is typically asymptomatic.
Avatar f tn He has been tested twice for mono...negative both times. He had pneumonia last December and strep in February. He has a chronic sore throat. Another symptom is that he will wake up in the middle of the night and vomit, then he goes back to sleep and is fine. He often complains that his stomach hurts and has diarrhea. Could this be allergy related? His doctor has suggested trying prednisone to see if it helps.
Avatar m tn After not having strep throat in many years (at least 8-10), I think I have it a 2nd time in 4 weeks. I have a low fever (99.5-101, down to 97 w Motrin) Tonsils swollen and covered in white patches Difficulty swallowing even water I had a splenectomy in 2011 for hereditary spherocytosis. The last strep infection did not respond to penicillin and within 24 hrs I was at ER w raging infection. It is a weekend. Should I try to wait til Monday, or call Dr?
Avatar f tn She was exposed to strep throat this week. Diagnosis was UTI and ear infection, she was started on keflex. she has had 1 dose this afternoon. She now has a red rash that has a "sunburn like appearance" and is rough to touch, so i am thinking scarlett fever, however the rash is primarily under her panties in the front and her armpits. there is some on her back but it's not nearly as noticable as the other 2 locations.
Avatar m tn Usually you would have a high fever, pus in the throat etc. if it was a strep throat. Bacterim has limited activity and works on lower respiratory tract (pneumonia) organisms and not generally streptococci. It is more effective towards other bacteria. So, i don't think you have a strep throat.
Avatar n tn Maybe influenza or strep throat, even Pneumonia?
Avatar f tn Well, it may not be strep if he hasn't done a strep test or culture. Do you have pus in your throat or did you? Do you have a high fever/ He is probably just treating for a variety of bacteria. Yes if you haven't cleared the sore throat and ear infection (which could also be viral. You should really get cultures done if it hasn't cleared or clarify if he thinks it is viral but is treating empircally to make sure you don't get a secondary infection such as pneumonia.
Avatar n tn Hi and sorry you are ill. Do you still have the sore throat? Do you have a high fever? Usually, with a strep throat you don't have a cough or other symptoms. So this sounds like a virus rather than a strep throat. So, when you went it to the doctor what were your symptoms to start with? If you only had pus in the throat and a sore throat with a fever you had strep throat. Then if they did a strep test and it was positive the antibiotics didn't help the sore throat?
503418 tn?1231098736 Well, pus indicates an infection, and if serious there should be a fever. If the condition is strep throat (tonsillitis), that is a specific type of infection caused by the streptococcus bacteria. Strep tonsillitis can cause secondary damage to the heart valves (rheumatic fever) and kidneys (glomerulonephritis).
Avatar m tn Oye ! 5 months and no answer to this one ? I saw the heading and was so hoping to find someone explaining this because it has been driving me crazy all day. I've got the same problem. And I know if I go in to the clinic I'll just be diagnosed with strep and put on anti-biotics. I've a friend who nearly died of pneumonia because she was misdiagnosed with strep and put on a weak anti-biotic. So, for rogozub and for me... does anyone know what can cause this sort of thing...
Avatar m tn On May 4, I had unprotected oral sex on a female where I performed on her and we also had condom protected vaginal sex. Approximately a week or two later, I developed the sore throat. Strep tests (3 of them) have all come back negative. I tested negative for HIV, syphilis, and gonorrhea (both throat and penile). I have taken two round of antibiotics and one round of a steroid. Still no change. I even asked my ENT about cancer and he ruled that out. What does this sound like to you?
1222076 tn?1423027749 Glad you are feeling better. With strep throat you get a high fever, and sometimes swollen lymph nodes in the neck area but never goes to the nose throat or chest (cough). You usually can see white spots in the back of the throat but not always. So, if you have these other symptoms it is a cold or flu. The doctor was wrong not to do a throat culture on you if he suspected strep throat because the strep test is inaccurate and is supposed to be followed up by a culture.
Avatar f tn Got sick three days after and was diagnosed with mono two weeks later. I was given penicilin for strep throat as well. Mono symptoms persisted well over a month. I was hospitalized yesterday after vomitting, diarrhea, fever and extreme fatigue. Was diagnosed with pneumonia. Was given antibiotics. My batteries are completly empty after all these illnesses. Does ARS ressemble this? Does it come in waves or cause complications? p.s.
242516 tn?1368223905 If less than 3 of 4 of these signs are positive, then wait for your strep test or throat culture to show a bacterial infection before taking antibiotics. These are general guidelines, meant to be taken in the whole context of your health history by your doctor. Avatar f tn Is it possible to get a lung infection or pneumonia from breathing in cat litter? The night before last I cleaned out the litter and for the next few hours I was having some chest pain and tightness, and my throat was getting sore. I felt better by the time I went to bed and woke up without any chest pain or issues. Then I went to class and after walking around a bit I developed the issues again, which sort of came and went throughout the evening and were much better when I went to bed.
Avatar n tn could be bronchitis or pneumonia. get them to do a chest xray. where i live strep and flu have been going along together. type flu a can settle in your chest and cause pneumonia. hope this gives you a little direction.
Avatar n tn I am a university student during the middle of finals and got sick this week. I first went to my campus's medical clinic originally thinking I had strep throat. Based on the doctor's conclusion, I had a viral throat infection. Three days went by and it turned into a whooping cough. I went back to the clinic today and the doctor gave me antibiotics after I told him I coughed up some green gunk. The doctor said my lungs sounded clear.
1399033 tn?1449587779 I'm just curious to know if anyone has taken this antibiotic and what side effects you may or may not of had. I've been taking it for two days and the only thing I have so far is it feels like I have the flu. It makes my stomach cramp and I have nausea. But, no throwing up, no diarrhea (thank goodness)... none of the other stuff... Since it's only my second day of taking it, I'm not gonna count my chickens TOO early. It could still kick in. Lol...
Avatar f tn For the past 3 months I've been experiencing throat irritation. My throat is red and raw every day, though not dry. It doesn't hurt when I swallow, nor do I feel like I've got anything with substance stuck in my throat. I've been known to have minor colds once a month for the past year, but for the past 2 months I've been cold-free. I've never had strep, pneumonia or any major respiratory infection. But I do get sick a lot. My immune system is crud for some reason!
Avatar f tn The raspy voice and sore throat could be signs of strep throat, bronchitis or pneumonia which are very common around this time. Personally, I would go to the doctor as ask for a strep test and if that's negative, make sure they know the severity of your symptoms. Don't down play it, because from personal experience, breathing issues should be addressed as soon as possible and can become serious. I hope this helped, and I wish you luck!
Avatar f tn Other things like strep throat is contagious. Strep and staph are two contagious bacterias. Hope you feel better.
Avatar m tn My daughter tested positive for whooping cough so Dr. put entire family on antibiotics. I then started coughing, but the last 4 nights have been awful, wake up 3-4 times a night coughing so hard that I can't catch my breath and almost start to vomit. I understand this is normal with whooping cough and can last weeks, but my throat is so tight (feels like strep throat), but I don't have a fever, but neck is also sore. Dr.
Avatar f tn Didnt swab my my throat just looked and said strep. So my question is was it mono or strep because the amoxi did take the swelling down and remove the white spots and i know antibiotics don't cure viruses.
