Often I will get a bad cold as well, which has several times become pneumonia. (I had my first bout of viral pneumonia at age nine, in both lungs)
For years I would wake up with intense pain in my right ear and would often notice that the ear had been weeping while I slept, as there was a dried crust around the outer ear canal in the morning.
CBC labs have showed high lymphocytes for the past 4 years, but most recent CBC showed high lymphocytes, as well as high neutrophils, high platelet count, AND elevated monocytes. Frequent infections like pneumonia (3x) and shingles 2x in 11 months. Extremely debilitating fatigue, tightness and pain in chest, worsening weakness in arms/hands/legs/feet, frequent kidney stones, and tachycardia.
I came down with what I think was shingles in December since the rash occured only under my armpit. It then appeared a week or so later on my stomach and near my genital area. A few of the sores were really bad. It took about 2 months for it to stop. Right now I just have the scars but it was really painful. My question is, since it was armpit focused and then mostly on my stomach and a bit on my thighs, was it Shingles or Herpes?
It is that time of year, Flu Shots, I have always resisted them, Seems like the flu that comes is never the same as the vaccination. Maybe with all the press and easy access to shots these days I have been re thinking it.
I have never liked the idea of getting something injected into my self I don't need. I mean do they really work? Also now I am looking at the Shingles vaccination, having had chicken pox and having had shingles before albeit a mild case.
It started when he was just under 3 months and was hospitalized with RSV for 5 days. He now gets pneumonia at least 3-6 times every year or more and the doctor's never believe that he has it until they give him a chest x-ray, they will give him an antibiotic and will be fine for 1 week or so and back comes the pneumonia. He sometimes gets it during summer months as well. He has had the chicken pox 3 times and an extremely bad case of shingles all before he 3 1/2 yrs old.
t know how old you are, but you may want to get a Shingles Vaccine before you start treatment. Anyone can get Shingles if they have had chicken pox in the past and Shingles often manifests itself when the body is compromised and the immune system is compromised. They ae very painful and no one needs them to complicate an already difficult treatment. I also got a pneumonia vaccine and a flu vaccine (but flu season is about over soon).
That kind of ignorance is what makes having chronic shingles (I have chronic shingles or reoccurring shingles) so embarrassing. I am posting this information for anyone out there who suffers from chronic or reoccurring shingles. I'm not a doctor but my sister is and she confirms all this information.
4 rashes are on the back right side of my neck each smaller than an inch across. The lymph nodes in that are very tender. I'm concerned after noticing articles relating shingles to an HIV infection. I'll begin with my sexual history. I had unprotected sex with 2 girlfriends back in the early to mid-90's. Both are now married, have children and seem to be doing well. The last time I had unprotected sex was in 2000 with my ex-girlfriend of 3 years.
I persisted with my doctor and he swabbed the area and decided to have it type tested (HSV-1, HSV-2, or Shingles). The office called back today and said the test did not show anything as in any type of herpes, I guess the culture was not sufficient? My doc insisted that he has seen plenty of herpes and that hes sure it is shingles. I guess I would like a dermatologist opinion before on concede to the fact that I'm clean.
I'm 28F. In hosp for 2 weeks- tests, catscans, xrays, bloodwork, ultrasound, etc. Mono came back + (had mono when 16, & had it again). Also had strange little blisters- couple on one shoulder blade, sev on my lip, sev on my hand, & one on bottom big toe. Mentioned chicken pox, limes disease, hand-foot-&-mouth disease, herpes, etc. Put me on acyclovir in the hosp & was taking it up until 2 weeks ago. Since being out of the hosp, have only had the blisters reoccur on hands...
My youngest daughter(7) has had the chicken pox vaccine. Is she more likely to get chicken pox from a person with shingles or chicken pox? I understand that she has had the vaccine, I just do not know if she has a better chance of getting chicken pox from a person with chicken pox or is she more likley to get it from a person with shingles, if she were to get it?
Not to rule out shingles entirely, but shingles is a nerve infection and this is not a typical presentation. On the other hand pain is associated with shingles. If shingles the virus travels down a ganglion until it exits at the skin surface. But you really need an in-person evaluation. You need to find a local clinic. Generally for those with verified low income, the visits are generally only ten dollars.
If she did lesion cultures and it came back as zoster and not simplex then it's shingles.
I have had exercise induced asthma issues for years, it has now turned into daily occurrences with or without exercise. Since my lungs are already compromised, I have been advised to take a flu shot this year. I have never done so before and would like your opinions on either getting or not getting a flu shot.
Nurse practioner there said it looked like shingles. She would not test for shingles but did take a culture to test for HSV1 or 2. Awaiting results.
Do herpes simplex and shingles look about the same? Any distinguishing factors? A week before this outbreak I had a date where there was brief, rough kissing on my neck. If it ends up being HSV1, why didn't it affect my mouth instead of my neck? Will I be more contagious to others for the next year?
If it's triggered by movement of your arm, it could possibly be muscle related. You have muscles between your ribs and you could have "pulled one" any number of ways. If you don't want to go to the doctor, you may try to pay special attention to any repetitive movements on that side. Since it is on your left side it's probably not gall stone. If you are having ANY sort of respiratory issues, it is possible to have some pneumonia.
The flue is epidemic where I live right now.
I was encouraged to have the flu shot prior to treating & I did. There was a question a few months ago about the Shingles vaccine so I asked about all three. Both my GI & PCP told me (at the time) I could have a flu shot & pneumonia while on treatment but discouraged the Shingles. At that time my ANC was around 1 or so. This is based on my particular medical history however.
I didnt use lubrication I got sick on Feb 15th and then on Feb 20th my doctor from an x-ray diagnosed me with Pneumonia I had a chronic dry cough and given ani-biotics the pneumonia went away but then my stomach become bloated and I never had tempature but my body feels like it is on fire like burning. I feel like my skin is burning went to a dermatologist who said it is not shingles, i did also show him a few bumps on my torso and he assured me it was not std related.
Do shingles and herpes look the same on the back? Does getting HSV-1 trigger shingles?? My god if I ever figure this nonsense out. I have genital HSV-1 for goodness sakes. It is not supposed to hang around chronically! I ran once at 10 a.m in Sun for 30 mins 2 months ago. Got a 3 inch round on my back. Did not test. I am so over it.
