Pneumonia or pericarditis

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia or pericarditis

pneumonia

Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with constrictive pericarditis this week. This all started from a case of strep throat back in Feb. He was treated with anti-biotics but kept complaining of chest pain. He said it felt like pneumonia. He was told he didn't have pneumonia after 2 x-rays - then a trip to the ER resulted in a diagnosis of pneumonia. He was treated again with another antibiotic - 3 days later he had to be hospitalized - symptoms had worsened.
Avatar n tn I was hospitalized for five days with pneumonia last January. Recent x-rays and lung function tests show that I'm recovered, however, I have a persisent cough and feel a slight flutter in my heart. I have not felt like I'm back to normal since my bout with pneumonia. I take Humira for arthritis, but all my doctors seem to think that this is not an issue. I have a healthy lifestyle and have never smoked - should I pursue a medical answer or a nutritional/dietary change?
Avatar f tn does anyone have any experience with pericarditis and pregnancy. I had an ablation for SVT in october of last year and ended up with chronic pericarditis from the procedure. I am now trying to have another child and am concerned about being pregnant with the pericarditis. Does anyone have any words of advice or a story to share with me??
Avatar f tn Pain under the left shoulder blade is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, pancreatitis, or ectopic pregnancy or from the chest like in heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection. Pain under right shoulder blade is usually due to gall stones, duodenal ulcer and liver infection. Hence an ultrasound, liver function test and an upper GI endoscopy is needed for diagnosis. Liver infection can also cause fatigue and bruising.
Avatar n tn which causes which: atrial fib causes cardiomyopathy or cardiomyopathy causes atrial fib or are they independent events? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/253022'>Atrial fib/flutter advice</a>.
Avatar f tn Pain under the left shoulder blade is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, acidity, pancreatitis, or ectopic pregnancy (unlikely) or from the chest like in heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection. Another possibility is ankylosing spondylitis. Back pain worse when sitting or lying down and feels better with movement is usually caused by ankylosing spondylitis. This is a genetic condition.
Avatar n tn Two years ago I had severe bacterial pneumonia after giving birth to my daughter. When being discharged from the hospital I was told I had a "mild leaky heart valve" and not to worry. Well, I started to get a weird numbness in my last three fingers on my left hand. I went to my Doctor and she suggested Carpal Tunnel. For some reason, I brought up the leaky heart valve and she went in her records.
Avatar n tn , acute MI, unstable angina, thoracic aortic dissection, tension pneumothorax, esophageal rupture, pulmonary embolism) are immediately life threatening. Some (e.g., angina pectoris, pericarditis, myocarditis, pneumothorax, pneumonia, pancreatitis, various thoracic malignancies) are potentially life threatening.

Avatar n tn Pain under the left shoulder blade is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, acidity, pancreatitis, or ectopic pregnancy or from the chest like in heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection. Since the pain is not much chances of chest related causes are less. It is in all probability acidity due to medications you took. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime.
Avatar m tn If the pain is under the shoulder blade then it could be due to a problem with the stomach (like acidity, gastric reflux, hiatal hernia) or due to pancreatitis, or in the chest like angina or heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, aortic dissection. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!

Avatar f tn Pain under the left shoulder blade is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, acidity, pancreatitis or from the chest like in heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection. Since you have Grave’s disease, it can also be a joint related pain. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar n tn If you have acute pericarditis, the most common symptom is sharp, stabbing chest pain behind the breastbone or in the left side of your chest. However, some people with acute pericarditis describe their chest pain as dull, achy or pressure-like instead, and of varying intensity. If I remember correctly pericarditis was cause of similar symptoms you express.
Avatar m tn Positional pain sounds like a back or neck issue to me. Have you had a ct scan or MRI of your back or cervical neck area? I have the same pain in the same area. I have disc herniations in my neck that cause the shoulder blade pain as well as the radiation to the left arm. I would be shocked if the Dr's never considered this as the cause of your pain. Just a suggestion and would be worth asking your doc about it. Hope you figure it all out. Good luck!
Avatar f tn For any chest pain of this sort that I cannot examine, I would say, get a 12 lead EKG to rule out angina or heart attack. Also it is possible that you have a bad gastric reflux or costochondritis or pleurisy (if you have cough) or it can be shingles too (the rash may not have erupted). Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar m tn Pain under the left shoulder blade is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, pancreatitis, or from the chest like in heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, lung cancer and aortic dissection. It could also be a pain due to acidity and acid reflux. If heart issues have been seriously looked into then lung, pancreas and acidity related issues should be ruled out. Since the pain is referred to arm too pericarditis should be ruled out.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, many normal variants can mimic the changes in pericarditis or the EKG may be normal. An EKG is not a reliable source to diagnose pericarditis. A chest x-ray may suggest enlargement of heart tissue and can be used to rule out other problems within the chest. Blood testing can be used to look for specific causes of pericarditis like infection, leukemia, kidney failure, connective tissue diseases or thyroid abnormalities.
Avatar n tn Pericardium and Pericarditis What is the pericardium? The pericardium (pair"e-KAR'de-um) is the thin sac (membrane) that surrounds the heart and the roots of the great blood vessels. What is pericarditis? Pericarditis (pair"e-kar-DI'tis) is inflammation of the pericardium. The pericardium has an inner and outer layer with a small amount of lubricating fluid between them. When the pericardium becomes inflamed, the amount of fluid between the two layers increases.
Avatar f tn He started having arrythmias recently. Should we be concerned? What is the rest of Heart Attack or Heart Failure with Pericarditis?
Avatar f tn Hi, Pericarditis, usually resolves with in few weeks, but can result in certain complications like tamponade, chronic pericarditis or constrictive pericarditis. As, you already had a echocardiogram, which rules out tamponade a cardiac catheterization should be done to rule out constrictive pericarditis. A CT or MRI scan can also help to diagnose chronic or constrictive pericarditis, by showing the thickening of the pericardial lining associated with these conditions.
Avatar n tn I really feel for you...I had pericarditis once and the pain was tremendous, I can't imagine what you are going through with repeat episodes. I am sure the doctors have checked you out for autoimmune disorders that can cause pericarditis such as SLE, Sjorgen's, RA, Scleroderma etc...The cause of my pericarditis was viral....I wonder if you are getting repeat infections that are causing this.
