377012 tn?1283965435 my real question was supposed to be how can u tell if someone has pneumonia? is there any signs/symptoms other than breathing difficulties! or how could i tell if he has fluid in his lungs!???
Avatar f tn Walking pneumonia can take a lot out of you (especially since it sounds like this pneumonia has been fairly resistant). The pneumonia may resolve with the doxycycline, but it can still take you a few weeks to feel better. I suggest that you take you medication as prescribed, get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids and give yourself some time to heal. When you finish your doxycycline, be sure to see your doctor again so that he/she can make sure that the pneumonia is gone. Good luck.
Avatar f tn For me, when my allergies get bad I always have a heightened worry/awareness that I might get a sinus infection, bronchitis, or pneumonia. So speaking from personal experience, yes allergies might make someone more vulnerable to anxiety. Double check with your doctor/pharmacist on the ingredients in your meds. Drink plenty of fluids. Hang in there!

563648 tn?1294323177 s illness and ongoing issues with phlegm in the running down her throat. This is likely post nasal drip or chronic rhinitis. Often this is caused by allergies but there are a host of other reasons and sometimes it is idiopathic with no reason known. Inflammation of the nasal cavity and sinuses post pneumonia is certainly a possibility and unfortunately, that can last for weeks, to months and sometimes a year. https://www.medicinenet.com/chronic_rhinitis/article.
Avatar m tn Sometimes it brings up phlegm; other times not. We know she has allergies to ragweed, grass, weeds, flaxseed. Her food contains nothing that she's allergic to. I understand that her allergies may act up in the summer, but her coughing is year-round (we live where we have winter from Nov.-Mar. so the grasses are dead part of the year). They have diagnosed her with pneumonia and found a shady spot on her lung (our vet thinks this may be scar tissue from a previous bout of pneumonia).
1232362 tn?1333135406 My cats have upper respiratory infections (being spread amongst themselves by violent sneezing despite my best efforts) and I'm wondering if I can pick this up from them. I have asthma and am prone to these infections myself and have had both walking and regular pneumonia a few times. I'm taking all the regular precautions: washing my hands, etc.
Avatar m tn My son has pneumonia for the second time. First time, the doctor noted traces of pneumonia in his chest and gave him Amox for 10 days. He was fine for another 10 days and got it back. This time, he got better only with IV antibiotics. He was ok for another 10 months with on and off colds, but this time he developed pneumonia again and had to be treated with oral antibiotics. I want to know if there is anyway to help prevent reccurence of pneumonia?
Avatar n tn Including bronchoscopy BAL sample all the samples like sputum, blood tested for various AFB, c/s and growth tests but none came positive. They failed to isolate the causative organism(bacteria, fungus or virus). But his leucocyte count is high. As his fever came down &clinically better he got discharged. Some doctors suggest to start emperical treatment for TB. Is there any method available to detect smear negative TB?What might be his actual disease ?
Avatar n tn For about 10 years I have had a cough after eating, with congestion in my chest. Usually I notice later that day or the following day I develop small, rash-like red dots on my chest. Originally I thought it might be food allergy, but the same thing happens if I laugh a lot. I have a history of very mild seasonal allergies, no asthma. Have never smoked. Do have GERD. I have had untreated pneumonia once and usually develop bronchitis with seasonal colds.
Avatar f tn Another possibility is allergy headache. Since you have rashes also allergies cannot be ruled out. Allergies are especially common in the fall season. Please discuss this possibility with your doctor. Keep us posted!
Avatar f tn Other treatment options include oral antihistaminics like benadryl and Claritin or non sedating antihistaminics like zyrtec; Topical or oral decongestants for rhinitis and nasal congestion; topical steroids for skin rashes and itching; oral steroids in more severe cases and bronchodilators in cases of difficulty in breathing and wheezing. These medications all help to relieve short term symptoms of allergic reactions. However, there is a way of preventing the long term symptoms of allergies.
620048 tn?1358018235 not sure if you saw my post, but my SOB was not allergies..I have pneumonia and its worse than than it has been before. But its wo hard to get someone to hear you. and I was not shy about it. Ten days I called my Drs before I finally call my old Dr who is only here 2 days a week and he said come right in, i will make room for you. There are no longer Drs like him....he has an offfice close to Stanford and he still does HOUSE CALLS. That is unheard of here at least.
Avatar f tn My nine-year-old granddaughter has been diagnosed with steroid-resistant asthma with multiple allergies, but we are told hers is a non-allergic asthma. She was recently also diagnosed with sarcoidosis. Her asthma is complicated by URI's that require hospitalizations every 4-6 weeks for IV steroid infusions, antibiotics, and RT. Two weeks ago she was in the PICU for pneumonia and a pneumothorax plus all the rest.
Avatar m tn I was treated with levaquin for community acquired pneumonia for a little more than a month (horrible side effects), I was in the hospital 3 times, for 5 days in two of them (the second one was a relapse) and only ER the third one. What is unnusual for me is that the last hospital diagnosed me acute bronchitis and the other ones pneumonia,(the gap between the 2nd and the third hospital was 2 weeks, is this logical???).
Avatar n tn Possibility of recurrence of pneumonia or there being asthma, allergic bronchitis or even cystic fibrosis should be looked into. The best thing would be to consult a pediatrician and try and assess what is the cause of his problem. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi Doctor, at lunch today I was taste testing my yellow rice to see if it was soft enough to finish a recipe and choked on a couple of pieces. I coughed and then made myself cough a number of times 'just in case', but am concerned it went into my lungs and might cause aspiration pneumonia. I have no lung problems.
Avatar n tn I would take your dog to be checked by the vet. If it is his breathing which is congested, it is possible for dogs to develop pneumonia, and you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell if that was the case. If it's only his nose, then there has to be a reason, and it's best the vet checks him. I would do that before you start trying to treat him yourself.
Avatar f tn Hi, and a 44 year old women with a question about immunology. I used to have allergies to just about everything - penicillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin, celcor, sulfa drugs, all cephalosporins, all OTC topical antibiotic ointments, cats, dogs, pollens, molds dusts, perfumes, detergents, etc. I had terrible eczema and chronic general itchiness and I reacted very badly to some antibiotics.
