pneumonia

Avatar f tn Have you ever had a shot to keep you from getting pneumonia? I used to have pneumonia at least once a year, but not anymore. It's been 10 years now. Also COPD can cause pleurisy, among other things. See a doctor who specializes in lung probems!
Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....

Avatar f tn He also took her off of her lasix, because this contributed to kidney failure. He would only release her to a nursing home and would not write an order to resume the blood thinner or the lasix. We were told that without the blood thinner she would develop blood clots around the valve and it would either stop working all together causing a heart attack or it would throw clots causing strokes and this could cause death, paralysis or a coma like state for years.
Avatar f tn 12 months ago I made an emergency trip back east to have my elderly parents placed in a nursing home - they hade been living in their house but my mom had alzheimers and my dad parkinsons. My dad had an accident and had to be put in the hospital and that is when the drs.said he could not go back home - it was a blessing in disguise because I had been trying to get him to agree to leave the house.
Avatar n tn Am not a doctor, but this sounds like pneumonia. I use to work in a nursing home and seen people with this problem..u need the hospital...please go straight away...
Avatar m tn m not sure COPD can be caused by Pneumonia, but it can definitely go the other way (COPD can put a person at risk for pneumonia). And it all started with a "cold" in June. :( I'm sorry hun. But it sounds like COPD.
Avatar m tn My husband has had a choking cough for 2 weeks. He is in a nursing home and the on call doctor will not give him a chest xray because the nurses do not hear anything in his lungs. He has chf and Alzheimer's. He does not cough constantly but when he does he is in great discomfort, straining to get the cough out. It sounds like there is phleone but he can't cough it up.
5601163 tn?1370701672 I recently underwent a two week course of Levaquin for pneumonia. On the follow-up visit with my doctor, a chest x-ray showed "right basilar opacity," which caused my doctor to order a CT scan. What does this mean?
Avatar f tn My family and I are at a loss. My dad had his aortic valve replaced (elective/scheduled) on 12/15/22. The Dr. said he lost a lot of blood and they had trouble controlling his blood pressure during the surgery. He was never extubated after the surgery, never followed commands. They did a CT scan 4 days later, that's when it was discovered he had a stroke. Later that week he had a trach and g-tube put in.
Avatar n tn I am 50 years old and an emergency triple by pass 7 weeks ago. I have most all the emotional problems that I have read, my biggest thing is the breathing. I can't take deep breaths, I start to sneeze and it gets stuck and is painful. I am not sure how to explain it. When I try to breath deep it goes right into my shoulder to my shoulder blade. Feels like pluresy. I live way up in the Adirondack Mtns and its below zero, and we burn wood.
Avatar f tn I know ed is right about this....you carry this, you don't get rid of it. It lies dormant in your system. Nursing homes are rampant with it. There was a time that Dr.'s weren't supposed to admit residents to nursing homes if they were carriers. Hospitals hardly ever test any more for it because it is so rampant. There is even crossover from the animal population. I know because my daughter, a Registered Vet Tech, got it from the animal surgical center where she works.
Avatar m tn My father is 79 years old, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, upon exams they discovered he had a couple of arteries blocked. I think they said 40% blockage in one and not sure of the blockage in the other one, not sure what arteries are blocked. The cardiologist is recommending Bypass surgery, all the information I have read states that blockage of this type can usually be treated with medication.
Avatar f tn I'm a 32 year old male in Canada. I'm 185lb,5'9". I've had a dull chest pain on my left side right under my armpit area and around to the center of the chesty for the past 4 months. I've been ignoring it as it was such a dull pain I'd almost call it a sensation instead of pain. So I had the flu last week as did my whole family. I was hit hard, very weak, major headache, neck and back ache, fever. Never developed much coughing but felt a bit phlegm.
Avatar m tn ll my dad had lacunar stroke on right side of brain Oct 17 2013 . He is paralyzed on left side. He was walking with walker nov 2 2013 but nov 27 he got pneumonia and his heart got irregular. He had a critical troponin result that day. Now he has a half inch bed sore and he is kinda giving up. Dec 17 the rehab center suggested hospice plan ideas. Disappointing.
Avatar n tn I began to get this when I started taking it and I stopped for a short period of time while I had pneumonia and the itchy and redness went away. Now I have been on it again for about 1 1/2 weeks and it has started up.
Avatar n tn I am 23 years old and for 2 years I have been diagnosed with bronchitis at least 10 times and pneumonia once . I've gone through breathing test and they saw I don't have asthma. The antibiotics only work for so long then I start getting sick again. My symptoms include a lot of pressure in my chest, have a unproductive cough, then I start to struggle to talk, I wheeze and become very hoarse, and struggle to swallow at times.

Avatar n tn t have pneumonia nor any kidney problems, but if those conditions can be effectively managed the outlook may not be bleak for a full recovery. Currently my heart is the normal size and the EF is 59%, Thanks for sharing your father's experience and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond. Take care, and I wish your father well going forward.
Avatar f tn Respiratory distress? Problems with weight/height that might be associated with chronic pneumonia? How are they diagnosing the pneumonia? By sound or by x-ray? My best advice is to research, research, research, and look into every possibility. Sometimes doctors don't think outside the box because they are so busy. Also, you should check out the parent-2-parent website. Very knowledgable parents over there, of medically complex children....and some medical mysteries as well. Good luck!
Avatar f tn The result of this is that when food and/or liquid goes down your airway, it tends to fall to the RLL. Recurrent pneumonia is commonly seen in folks with swallowing problems (i.e, dysphagia). However, dysphagia is definitely not the only reason that one could experience recurrent pneumonia. In an otherwise healthy 44 year old women, it is not common to see swallowing problems.
Avatar f tn My father had a brain stem stroke five days ago. The doctors told me it was very bad from the beginning. He had a blood clot and it is still there. We chose not to have a thrombectomy done to remove the clot because it had a 90 percent failure rate and seemed very risky...yet I wish we had done it. My father has very low response. He can hold our hands (firm grip) and moves his eyebrows when you say his name but that is about it. he is pretty much unconscious.
Avatar n tn He asked if I was sick before the pneumonia diagnosis and the answer is yes. I have had a lot of breathing problems, weight loss, bone pain, shrinking in height, weakness, and stomach problems also. I have also taken a ct scan and I am waiting on the results. Should I be worried and what other test can I ask for or specialitst should I see? I am currently seeing a lung specialist and ENT(for polyps and nasal blockage)Please give me some direction and questions that I should be asking!!!
Avatar n tn and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia. I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.
672586 tn?1280933658 My father is 91 1/2. He has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus with a shunt, and apparently he also has some degree of Alzheimer's Disease. At this point he is completely immobile, and the caregivers in the nursing home say he's getting weaker, can no longer stand by himself even while holding on for support because his legs give out. Recently he started breathing heavily and sounding congested. An X-ray ruled out pneumonia, and he has been on lasix for a few weeks.
