Avatar m tn His major problem is aspiration pneumonia since the valve to his airway(s) does not close and is in open position constantly. Reflux of food and gases causes repeated pneumonia episodes, the latest resulting in more than 2 months in 4 hospitals and extreme loss of weight. He is facing jejunostomy in the very near future. We are told that later, fundoplication may be great help to him. Has anyone had or heard of side effects from this for a patient with jejunostomy?

Avatar f tn Hi, you're asking how to take Plan B the termination pill because being pregnant the second time right after giving birth would be REALLY unwelcome. Well, you need to talk to your doctor about a couple of things. First, if you are nursing, can you take Plan B. You most likely can but I'd double check. Hormones are involved in breast milk production and Plan B is a big dose of hormones.

Lots of hand holding, doting, and otherwise being present with her is necessary right now, leaving me little time for the forum. I miss reading what all of you are up to and hope to be back more very soon.

Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....

1516809 tn?1345082764 My father is her patient, and rather than waste energy on finger pointing because her judgment was questioned by the hospital, and she was embarrassed because she was not aware of the latest guidelines, she should be the one calling her colleagues to determine a care plan for my father. No one as of yet has explained to me why he experienced that bout of extreme rigidity or the seizure in the hospital other than the lame non-answer "it's the disease".

672586 tn?1280933658 Hi, It’s really difficult to comment the progression and the prognosis of patients of heart failure. Some progress very fast and some stable for a good number of years. There are several factors which play a role in the progression of the heart failure. For eg. One episode of chest infection can suddenly worsen the functioning of the heart and similarly one episode of angina can have deleterious effect on the heart. Hence, if such acute onslaughts don’t occur, the prognosis may not be that bad.
Avatar m tn The hospital social worker is looking for home nursing care to help out. Of course, they also said they would look for nursing homes earlier but didn’t. I don’t care whether they do or don’t, this time I’m doing the detailed research so I can tell them come Monday. Anyway, as I said there ARE a lot of positives here: 1. She will no longer be in XXXXX Hospital. It was a mistake to take her there in the first place. They are good for other types of care, but are horrible at behavioral health.

620048 tn?1358018235 that is recommended for treatment of pneumonia. The steroid is probably more for your COPD then the pneumonia itself as your breathing is probably worse. In hospital they would have started you on IV steroids and then tapered you to the oral dose. most people stay in the hospital only a few days with moderate pneumonia. With the added respiratory problems maybe you would have stayed in another day or two. Depending on your respiratory status prior to the pneumonia could be 2-4 weeks.
Avatar m tn There are many possible causes of such a cough in his circumstance, including pneumonia (despite the report of nurses not hearing “anything” in his lungs), heart failure, and abnormal swallowing with recurrent aspiration of food or liquid into his lungs, perhaps a result of his failing general health. I suggest that you arrange a meeting with his doctor(s) to discuss these issues and, more importantly, to discuss end-of-life care, including but not limited to Hospice Care.
