Avatar f tn My family and I are at a loss. My dad had his aortic valve replaced (elective/scheduled) on 12/15/22. The Dr. said he lost a lot of blood and they had trouble controlling his blood pressure during the surgery. He was never extubated after the surgery, never followed commands. They did a CT scan 4 days later, that's when it was discovered he had a stroke. Later that week he had a trach and g-tube put in.
1609219 tn?1298104935 t had any symptoms of pneumonia so I thought maybe it was mold in my previous home causing it. But now I have it again. I am on antibiotics cough meds and inhalers. I've had xrays taken after the antibiotics and they always look good. I'm not as healthy as you by any means but have figured out what's causing it?
Avatar m tn It is Christmas and dad is weaker at tendercare nursing home, His blood sodium and chloride are elevated, Dad sleeps a lot and is dehydrated, I will ask nurse to give him half cup of water every two hours seems nursing home neglects you once you no longer are alert, he also pockets food in his mouth. Very sad what is happening. Not sure who to blame.
Avatar f tn My father had a brain stem stroke five days ago. The doctors told me it was very bad from the beginning. He had a blood clot and it is still there. We chose not to have a thrombectomy done to remove the clot because it had a 90 percent failure rate and seemed very risky...yet I wish we had done it. My father has very low response. He can hold our hands (firm grip) and moves his eyebrows when you say his name but that is about it. he is pretty much unconscious.
Avatar f tn 12 months ago I made an emergency trip back east to have my elderly parents placed in a nursing home - they hade been living in their house but my mom had alzheimers and my dad parkinsons. My dad had an accident and had to be put in the hospital and that is when the drs.said he could not go back home - it was a blessing in disguise because I had been trying to get him to agree to leave the house.
Avatar f tn We chose to have her resume the blood thinner and the lasix. At the nursing home she fell, broke a hip and was sent back to the same hospital, again taken off the blood thinner and lasix. She had pins put in her right hip. She was sent back to the nursing home. She is now on oxygen all of the time. This is something she never used before her first trip to the hospital with kidney failure.
Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....
Avatar m tn As mentioned above, a 45% lesion usually does not require either a stent or bypass. There mus be some more severe lesions than that. You should ask the exact severity and location of the lesions, and the reason fro the surgery: is it to alleviate symptoms of angina or congestive heart failure, or is it to prolong his life. And what are the risks and benefits from said approach.
Avatar m tn After a bout of pneumonia including weeks of IV antibiotics in the hospital I came home to more IV antibiotics via home health care. I was also taking anti-fungals having developed thrush from probably formoterol fumarate inhalers. I am also dealing with ringworm. Nothing grew from the cultures taken from blood, sputum, or a specimen from endoscopy. The pneumonia abated and while at home I felt remarkably better. Then my girlfriend noticed my hair was falling out at an alarming rate.
672586 tn?1280933658 My father is 91 1/2. He has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus with a shunt, and apparently he also has some degree of Alzheimer's Disease. At this point he is completely immobile, and the caregivers in the nursing home say he's getting weaker, can no longer stand by himself even while holding on for support because his legs give out. Recently he started breathing heavily and sounding congested. An X-ray ruled out pneumonia, and he has been on lasix for a few weeks.
Avatar m tn Looking for the same answer...my 3 1/2 year old son has just had his third diagnosis of traces of pneumonia that required a shot in each leg followed by oral antibiotics. Don't know why he is susceptible to this and wondering if his room has mold or something. He does have peanuts allergy; haven't had him tested yet for asthma susceptibility, which we've heard is possible when there are allergies.
Avatar f tn They have progressively gotten worse over the past 5 years. I tried working in a nursing home for a couple of months and I ended up having to quit because I would come home in tears every night because of the pain. There is certain things I loved to do, like fishing, that has become a challenge for me because I cannot bend over a lot or it aggravates the pain. I I have been to all kinds of drs the past 5 years to try and get this resolved.
1577647 tn?1296191915 My name is Justine. I'm very very worried about a rash.. thing.. that my Dad has. He caught it at a nursing home, from a resident there because he wasn't allowed to wear gloves outside of her room and she had it. It LOOKS like bug bites in a way. Like little blisters. They started on his arm, then moved (spread) to his armpits, abs, back, genital area (sorry..), and legs.
Avatar n tn Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), alcohol use, pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs), pneumonia _______________________________________________ But most commonly, atrial fibrillation occurs as a result of some other cardiac condition (secondary atrial fibrillation). Avatar f tn It started in Sept. 04 - had an EGD, then the next day, woke up seriously ill, high fever and vomiting. An ER visit revealed spesis and pneumonia, so I was admitted and treated. There begain an 8 month revolving door - 1 visit/permonth for pneumonia treated with antibiotics and breathing treatments. Then, for six months nothing - after a bronch which 'cleared out a bunch of gunk". Between Oct '05 and Feb. '06, there were a few problems, but as of 2/06, I shttp://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn thanks for answering my post, i understand what your saying but i just have to wonder if the pneumonia had anything to do with it. and why did 3 different hospitals send him home if he was sick? i guess i've just never gotten over it, he was so young. he did'nt get to walk me or my sister down the isle or know his grandchildren.i take it that you've had heart problems, how are you doing? again, thanks for posting to me.
Avatar f tn I am diagnosed with pneumonia but the soctor says it can be cured at home. He has given medicine augmentin with other drugs. Will thia work? Do i need to get admitted?
Avatar f tn My 82 yr old grandmother was rushed to er room 22 days ago - she was in a nursing home because of diabetes which will go from 40 to 500 in an instant and the beginning stages of dementia. She had a heart attack in the ambulance and it took 2 mins to revive her. She stayed in ICU on a ventilator for 11 days. During that time she had a chest tube put into her left lung for a hole that showed up and fluid retention.
147426 tn?1317265632 She will be leaving the hospital and going into a nursing home - giving up her independent living. Lots of hand holding, doting, and otherwise being present with her is necessary right now, leaving me little time for the forum. I miss reading what all of you are up to and hope to be back more very soon.
202436 tn?1326474333 5 and they wanted it to be atleast 9 before discharge. When they did the draw at 5 it was exactly 9 so we FINALLY got to go home. AFter doing the discharge process for me and Lily we got home around 8 pm last night. It was so nice to spend the night in my own home where I had room to move and could eat whenever I wanted. Lily and I set up camp in the living room for a little while so we don't disturb everyone else being up all hours of the night. She did really good.
Avatar m tn My husband has had a choking cough for 2 weeks. He is in a nursing home and the on call doctor will not give him a chest xray because the nurses do not hear anything in his lungs. He has chf and Alzheimer's. He does not cough constantly but when he does he is in great discomfort, straining to get the cough out. It sounds like there is phleone but he can't cough it up.
Avatar m tn s a good thing to consider because there will be someone who will look after for your loved ones 24 hours a day who are having this kind of disease. In fact, some families consider a nursing home for their aging loved ones who mostly facing Alzheimer also. They believe that any nursing home can accommodate and will take care of their loved ones, as well as to protect them and make them feel valued and loved.
Avatar n tn They wanted to keep me but I have 4 kids at home to care for so they sent me home with a steroid, inhaler and cough meds and told me to finish the z-pak. I finished the z-pak about a week ago and still don't feel better.
Avatar m tn He is unable to get out of bed without help and can only walk one or two steps. His eyes are slightly jaundiced. He is in a nursing/rehab home at present. He has had paracentesis approximately once a week where 4 to 5 liters of fluid is removed. I haven't had any experience with cirrhosis and need anyone's opinion on how long my brother will be here. I know it's a dismal prognosis.
Avatar f tn My Doctor's DX was pneumonia & sepsis. I had gone to ergent care and they sent me home with some cough syrup and said I had a virus. Three days later I went bad and said I feel like I'm dying and that's when they finally took a blood test. They say they don't know what caused it. I did have surgery lately which is a huge red flag but no one wants to say that a doctor may have caused it. I'm the only one who seems to care where it came from.
