pneumonia

Avatar n tn when the pneumonia viral gets into blood, how to cure it ? for old people 78yo, wtih parkinson disease.
Avatar f tn I have been having problems with aspirating and got pneumonia in November and then had bronchitis. Could the aspirating and swallowing trouble be related to the stenosis? Or do you have any ideas. I wasn't having problems with the aspirating or swallowing problems before. Could this be neurological? I don't know who I should be asking this to. Thanks for any of your help.
Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....
Avatar f tn The levels in his liver were extremely high, his half a kidney was failing and a terrible case of pneumonia. Then we find out he has congestive heart failure with an ejection fraction of only 14.5%. I know very scary he is only 36. My questions are what can they do to improve that number and what is the life expectancy for someone with that number? Also would u say he is a candidate for disability?
Avatar f tn Since these are largely peripheral, other possibility include etiology such as Boop, bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia. Follow-up is recommended. IMPRESSION:Interval development of bilateral multifocal gound glass infiltrates w/upper lobe predominance. Diagnostic consideration include infection such as viral organism or opportunistics infections if the patient is immune compromised/chemotherapy medication versus other etiologies such as eosinophilic pnewmonia or BOOP.
Avatar n tn Rule out pneumonia. Etiology probably bacterial. These problems show up in summer after sleeping under a fan or an air conditioner and are persistant, the problem flaring and subsiding. The nasty little buggies become encapsulated in biofilms and like to live happily every after. It's time to rain on their parade with an airstrike. The general drill is an antibiotic, specifically zithromax 500 mg a day times three days. They sell in in a three capsule pack.
Avatar n tn Am not a doctor, but this sounds like pneumonia. I use to work in a nursing home and seen people with this problem..u need the hospital...please go straight away...
Avatar f tn IF not nursing and labs showing hyperthyroidism (Low TSH and high T4/T3) then an I-123 uptake/scan will help determine etiology -- cannot do if nursing!
Avatar f tn The CT appearance is more suggestive of a benign etiology though this is not confirmed. No other pulmonary nodules are identified. Opinion: Right middle lobe parenchymal nodular density, pleural based. While bengin etiology is favored, I would recommend followup in 3 months. Surgeon looked at the actual scan and said it looked beign to him too. He referred me to a pulmonologist just to be safe.
Avatar f tn My family and I are at a loss. My dad had his aortic valve replaced (elective/scheduled) on 12/15/22. The Dr. said he lost a lot of blood and they had trouble controlling his blood pressure during the surgery. He was never extubated after the surgery, never followed commands. They did a CT scan 4 days later, that's when it was discovered he had a stroke. Later that week he had a trach and g-tube put in.

Avatar f tn I know ed is right about this....you carry this, you don't get rid of it. It lies dormant in your system. Nursing homes are rampant with it. There was a time that Dr.'s weren't supposed to admit residents to nursing homes if they were carriers. Hospitals hardly ever test any more for it because it is so rampant. There is even crossover from the animal population. I know because my daughter, a Registered Vet Tech, got it from the animal surgical center where she works.
Avatar m tn My father is 79 years old, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, upon exams they discovered he had a couple of arteries blocked. I think they said 40% blockage in one and not sure of the blockage in the other one, not sure what arteries are blocked. The cardiologist is recommending Bypass surgery, all the information I have read states that blockage of this type can usually be treated with medication.
Avatar m tn ll my dad had lacunar stroke on right side of brain Oct 17 2013 . He is paralyzed on left side. He was walking with walker nov 2 2013 but nov 27 he got pneumonia and his heart got irregular. He had a critical troponin result that day. Now he has a half inch bed sore and he is kinda giving up. Dec 17 the rehab center suggested hospice plan ideas. Disappointing.

Avatar n tn The most common causes of pleural effusions are cancer, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and recent surgery. In countries where tuberculosis is common, this is also a common cause of pleural effusions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoracentesis In cases of diagnostic thoracentesis, the fluid that is taken is sent for lab investigations to determine the etiology of the fluid i.e. to find out the cause of pulmonary edema.
712042 tn?1254569209 One other thing that comes to mind is a high level of stress or anxiety as a possible etiology to this process, but based on what you've told us in the past, I don't think that this is playing a role here at all.
Avatar f tn My father had a brain stem stroke five days ago. The doctors told me it was very bad from the beginning. He had a blood clot and it is still there. We chose not to have a thrombectomy done to remove the clot because it had a 90 percent failure rate and seemed very risky...yet I wish we had done it. My father has very low response. He can hold our hands (firm grip) and moves his eyebrows when you say his name but that is about it. he is pretty much unconscious.
672586 tn?1280933658 My father is 91 1/2. He has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus with a shunt, and apparently he also has some degree of Alzheimer's Disease. At this point he is completely immobile, and the caregivers in the nursing home say he's getting weaker, can no longer stand by himself even while holding on for support because his legs give out. Recently he started breathing heavily and sounding congested. An X-ray ruled out pneumonia, and he has been on lasix for a few weeks.
Avatar n tn my father presented to the ED with SOB was worked up for cardiac and pulmonary etiology. was diagnosed early with pneumonia and a chest CT was done to rule out P.E. CT showed no evidence of P.E. but did show approx 11 cm mass around the lower portion of the esophagus. E.D Doctor presented to my father the diagnosis of esophageal cancer. My father was admitted and was seen by gen Surgeon in the a.m.
Avatar f tn I found one of my 1 day old puppys, lifeless this morning after her mom had layed on her, it hadn't been to long before. I began rubbing her vigorously, swinging her down as though trying to bring her to life after a c-section. She coughed up milk, thank goodness she was alive!! Milk came out her mouth and nose, I cleared it the best I could. Now almost 12 hrs later, you can't even tell it happened. She's nursing, sleeping, acts the same as all the rest of her siblings.
Avatar f tn The disorder usually starts with involuntary repetitive movements of the lips, but other parts of the body may be eventually affected. The exact etiology is unclear but is is associated with long-term use of dopaminergic antagonists, neuroleptics, anticholinergics and certain psychiatric medications. It is common to see this in nursing homes. A woman I cared for developed it at age 99, and upon discontinuance of the meds, it diappeared at age 102. She now 108 years old.
Avatar f tn He also took her off of her lasix, because this contributed to kidney failure. He would only release her to a nursing home and would not write an order to resume the blood thinner or the lasix. We were told that without the blood thinner she would develop blood clots around the valve and it would either stop working all together causing a heart attack or it would throw clots causing strokes and this could cause death, paralysis or a coma like state for years.
Avatar m tn he barely talks, but can talk sometimes with few words. he also caught pneumonia of pseudomonas spp. which is very difficult to treat. he is also severly immunocompromised. he needs 24hr care such as ng tube feeding, diaper change, physiotherapy etc. he is 61 years old and has been bedridden for 5 months now. Currently he is in his native country but we are thinking of bringing him to USA for better treatment. He is a US citizen and has insurance here. he was out of USA while he got sick.
Avatar f tn 12 months ago I made an emergency trip back east to have my elderly parents placed in a nursing home - they hade been living in their house but my mom had alzheimers and my dad parkinsons. My dad had an accident and had to be put in the hospital and that is when the drs.said he could not go back home - it was a blessing in disguise because I had been trying to get him to agree to leave the house.
Avatar n tn In 11/2008 I was hospitalized for, I thought, pneumonia but was heart failure. My EF was at 20 at the time. So I have been on all the heart failure medicines and see my cardiologist regularly as well as the heart failure clinic. I have been told I have chronic combined systolic and diastolic heart failure. My heart surgeon said my heart muscle was stiff when he operated on me. The other type of heart failure my cardiologist thought may have happened because of a virus.
Avatar f tn My 82 yr old grandmother was rushed to er room 22 days ago - she was in a nursing home because of diabetes which will go from 40 to 500 in an instant and the beginning stages of dementia. She had a heart attack in the ambulance and it took 2 mins to revive her. She stayed in ICU on a ventilator for 11 days. During that time she had a chest tube put into her left lung for a hole that showed up and fluid retention.
