pneumonia

7900821 tn?1395192104 Lung cancer can predispose one to pneumonia but in that case the pneumonia would recur in the same place in your lung each time. In addition it is quite unlikely that the radiologist would mistake lung cancer for pneumonia. That still leaves the question of why you should have recurrent pneumonia, unanswered and that is a question that will require further investigation.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I am 59 yrs old and have had pneumonia 3 times in last 7 months. I have had pneumonia many many times since I was born .Have been told many years ago that my lungs are scarred from this. Avatar n tn Pneumonia is a very serious lung infection that is caused by several different types of bacteria or viruses. Since you got well and then got sick again, you may either have a resistant strain, or have picked up a secondary infection. Yellow phlegm with a clear x-ray sounds like bronchitis. Either way, you need to see a pulmonary doctor to prescribe a different antibiotic to treat this new infection. Be sure to get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids.
Avatar f tn If you still have symptoms of pneumonia, please see a lung specialist - a Pulmonologist. They will order a CT of the lungs to look closer within the soft tissues and ask them to order Lung Function Testing to see if you are breathing adequately and have good lung capacity. Most Drs can also check the amount of oxygen in your blood at any given time with a plastic clip that goes on our finger. You want to see 96% or higher.
1359256 tn?1277542857 t know how long it takes i know that their symptoms took that long before they started to subside and the doctors (my youngest had many doctors as he has a heart and lung issue since birth, all said that this was normal response to someone fighting pneumonia. also I am aware that people can die from pnuemonia, we almost lost our 5 week old to this. at any rate I hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
437079 tn?1222438840 Infiltrates on a xray usually means that the air sacs are filled with fluid, cells, bacteria, or other substance. Pneumonia is an example , also fluid build up from CHF (congestive heart failure) can present as infiltrates from what I remember. I know that there are other reasons. What did your doc say Diva? Again keeping you in my thoughts..
Avatar n tn It would depend on what type of pneumonia you have. You might want to call your clinic to ask them. There are too many kinds of pneumonia for anyone to answer simply. Besides, after having pneumonia and there being a flu epidemic out there, would you really want to expose your weakened body to that?
Avatar n tn but i was wondering if she can give and kind of lung infection like pneumonia or anything else. i went to the doctor and they said i had pneumonia and they they treated me with the bacteria kind but could it be the fungal pneumonia. wondering if i could got something from her or just worried.
1416390 tn?1333901604 He has a cough and they can not tell whether it is pneumonia or cancer from the xrays. If it is pneumonia- they want to see the bacteria. We have paid for 5 xrays so far and the procedure is going to be $700. Does this sound right? I would ask my vet- but he is not interested in our situation- I guess if it is not money in his pocket he does not care.
Avatar f tn I do have a history over the years of pneumonia off and on, and a cough/cold deal that I go through every single winter. This did begin when I was 15 with chest pain, and the pains have increased over the years. In April, there was one incident that was so bad I thought it was a heart attack. I'm supposed to go back to the primary care physician now, and she's supposed to talk to me about where I go next. What does that mean? What should I ask?
Avatar f tn I had something similar a few years back - was diagnosed with pnemonia, it seemed to clear up with antibiotics, but after a few months symptoms returned. The infections and bacteria that invade a cavity in the lung may need stronger or different types of drugs to fully eradicate. At least in my case, that was the case. Eventually the infection was cleared but the abscess left a cavity in my lung that has yet to close up.
Avatar n tn When the lining (pleura) of the lung becomes affected, the infective process will cause the lung to adhere to the pleura to produce the pain of pleurisy. Then, as the condition becomes walled off by our defending white blood cells, the inflammatory response will sometimes result in scarring. It is equally likely that an area of infection within the lung will be contained by the body's immune response and that scar tissue will develop.
Avatar m tn You can also get bacterial pneumonia as a secondary infection. Bacterial pneumonia is usually caused by a bacteria called Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is a bacteria that can be in the throat or respiratory tract in small numbers and it can be normal bacteria until someone gets run down due to a viral infection, fungal infection or other reasons. Then the Streptococcus bacteria can take over the lungs and cause a bad infection. It is treatable with antibiotics.
Avatar f tn For the past couple of years I have been having many upper respiratory infections.. I first had bronchitis, almost turned into walking pneumonia, then H1N1. And then from there repeated about every 3-5 months another resp. virus. Doctors initially thought I was never getting over this repeated cold. But I think its something more. I have had inhalers off and on for the last 2 years, just ventair basically, been prescribed albuteral nebulizer treatments to do at home as needed.
Avatar n tn t a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia. Most pneumonia is infectious, and is most times caused by strep bacteria, so they throw antibiotics at it, and see how the patient responds, there are more aggressive atypical bacterial pneumonia that may require more aggressive treatment, also a persons age, and strength of their immune system is a major factor as well. But there are also viral, fungal, or less commonly parasitic causes of pneumonia.
Avatar n tn I have pneumonia in both lungs had it in April but it was only in the left lung I was hospitalized for a week . I thought I got better so I went on ... well last week I was back in the Er. I had three rounds of Rochephin in each hip for three days . a Z pack and then started Cefdinir on sunday .SO my question if I am puking and coughing up lots of mucus and ribs on left side still sore does this mean my pneumonia is trying to clear up?
Avatar n tn Took Buddy to a different vet. Turns out it's not pneumonia. He has lung cancer.
Avatar f tn Is it possible to get a lung infection or pneumonia from breathing in cat litter? The night before last I cleaned out the litter and for the next few hours I was having some chest pain and tightness, and my throat was getting sore. I felt better by the time I went to bed and woke up without any chest pain or issues. Then I went to class and after walking around a bit I developed the issues again, which sort of came and went throughout the evening and were much better when I went to bed.
Avatar f tn if so then the drugs of choice are dependent on whether he has pneumonia or not or if it is just in the throat. Pain in the lung sounds like pneumonia but then his Xray was ok? So, I would say he should see an infectious disease specialist if he isn't getting better. Generally, for community acquired pneumonia they do tests in the lab to see what drugs the MRSA is sensitive to.
418165 tn?1295753981 21st, the childrens hospital diagnosed my 4 yr old daughter with left lower pneumonia. On the 23rd she had a x-ray to make sure. She went through a antibiotic shot(starts with a r, like Rotussin or something), and a oral antibiotic(zithromax) and was better for about 1week and a half. I noticed the other day her cough, (this is the only symptom shes had), had came back a little worse then it was before.

5601163 tn?1370701672 Could be residual changes from the pneumonia -- many times the xray takes longer to completely resolve than the symptoms, even after a course of antibiotics. Sometimes, pneumonia develops in response to mild airway blockage from a mass or tumor, so if they saw something (even small or subtle), they probably just want a CT to make sure it's not something like that.
Avatar n tn In many instances lung infections are not purely bronchitis but may be a combination of bronchitis and pneumonia and the urgent care physician may have noted X-ray findings suggestive of bronchitis, pneumonia or both. Acute bronchitis is often caused by viruses, less often by bacteria and, not infrequently, by organisms that are neither bacterial or viral, called Mycoplasma. The X-ray picture is not specific for any of these.
Avatar m tn ve since had the Bronchoscopy which showed I had inflammation on the right lung, they also used a fine brush to take cell samples as well as squirting water into the lung and sucking it back out to see if they could culture any bacteria/viruses. I've waited 2 weeks and now on Tuesday I get the results (2 days time) I am still terrified it could be something much worse like Lung cancer. If nothing is proven with the results I will repeat the CT scan in 6 months to monitor it.
Avatar f tn I ave just been diagnosed with pneumonia. Will this leave me with permanent lung damage. I feel very short of breath.
Avatar n tn I've had pneumonia for almost 3 months. I had two rounds of antibiotics and it shrunk to the point where it didn't show up in an x-ray, so we thought it was gone. But after 3 weeks the symptoms came back so severely that I had to go to the emergency room because the pain in my ribs and chest was keeping me from breathing. The x-ray was still 'clear' but a follow-up CT-scan showed it was still there, though a bit smaller than a previous CT scan.
