Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia is it contagious

pneumonia

Avatar f tn walking pneumonia is contagious. It's spread when someone comes in contact with droplets from the nose and throat of someone who has it. just try and cough and sneeze into the crook of your arm and use hand sanitizer and wash your hands a lot. You are on antibiotics right now and it may take 24 hrs or a little longer before you feel better. Just keep an eye on it and if it doesn't seem like it is getting better, get back to your doctor.
Avatar f tn Pneumonia is not contagious. But it is usually a result of some other kinda bug thats not treated resulting in that it causes fluid on the lungs, which takes a while to turn into pneumonia. If you arnt having symptoms of the original chest cold, or flu your fine.
Avatar f tn How many people have you heard "catch" pneumonia? About never sounds about right. :) "We still mistakenly cling to the germ theory...For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar m tn Well pneumonia is not an STD. You don't get it that way. Maybe you are worried about a urinary tract infection? Generally, Strep. pneumoniae it the " classic" type of bacteria for pneumonia but there are other bacteria that can cause pneumonia. So if you have frequent urination that is hard to go and and especially if it burns when you go that could be a sign of a urinary tract infection. If it is gone then I wouldn't worry about it.
Avatar m tn In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that she is already infected as early as now? If so, is she infectious, even if she isn't coughing or sneezing yet? I read in CDC that most cases are transmitted through coughing and sneezing in close contact, so if she's infected already but still not coughing or sneezing, would she be contagious already? Thank you so much in advance.
Avatar m tn would systemic candida cause sensory neural hearing loss .I have severe itching in my nose and on my face if I don't shave every day .it seems to be something fungal or bacterial you can see it in my mucous under high magnification I just don't know how to identify it by name .the only thing I can tell you is that it is affected by saline and peppermint altoids .I am eating immune boosting foods and drinks .
Avatar n tn Caregiver has it right- pleurisy itself isn't contagious, but whatever is causing it could be. Double check whatever caused it to make sure you're not putting yourself or others at risk.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but I have Googled your question and this is what I found: "Pneumonia in children and adults is caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa. Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs.
Avatar f tn that they take antibiotics for is due to a primary virus that gave them the secondary infection. So, a cold --- that IS contagious that caused 'gunk' to get thick in sinuses, bronchial tubes or lungs and then that festered into an infection that you need antibiotics to treat. The initial virus is contagious and for how long varies. Usually a week, I'd say.
Avatar n tn No it wouldn't be contagious since I'm assuming they are not having sex. She most likely called in because she is too uncomfortable, she doesn't want to be itching down there and be in pain while caring for your dad. I doubt she is making it up since that is a pretty embarrassing thing to tell someone you work for.
Avatar m tn So even if your temp is low, you must go, it will only get worse if its pneumonia, will not go away on its own. I hope you feel better, get to the docs!!
Avatar f tn i had the same thing back in june.. they thought i had pneumonia..ibut didnt..but it isnt contagious..the cough is part of the bron..
Avatar n tn As such most of the general population have it. Cold Sores are quite common and nothing to be ashamed about. It could quite possibly be Canker Sores as well. If your worried then go and see your doctor. Don't stress yourself out over it, stress has been known to cause those kinds of breakouts. If your boyfriend has them then the best bet would be to wait until the sores have healed before you kiss again as they are contagious.
Avatar f tn I'm sick but I don't know if Its something serious.iv been drinking tea and taking cough drops My mom has pneumonia But I don't know if I have it too or if I just have a cold. Is it safe to be sick while pregnant.
Avatar f tn A PCR test becomes positive sooner than the antibody test but is not usually the first test given as it is more expensive. So if you know you have been exposed to a high level of risk then ask for a PCR test.
Avatar n tn being already with HSV-1 gives a significant protection from accuairing it in another site but it could be possibile to get it genitally too read more at herpes.com..
Avatar n tn Yes, it is true.
Avatar f tn I've had HSV 2 for over 10 years now and rarely have outbreaks. I recently had an outbreak and took Lysine to help and it feels like it is cleared up (it's been 9 days). Today I looked at the outbreak region with a handheld mirror and although the region no longer hurts, I can see what looks like a healing scar where the outbreak was. Should I wait until the area looks completely back to normal before having sex again? Can the outbreak be completely over if a scar still exists?
Avatar n tn Thanks, yllas. what did your doctor say - is it curable? is it contagious? I don't recall having pneumonia or whooping cough before. my brother had bronchopneumonia when he was 3 years. but he seems to be in perfect health, in fact his xray result last year was clear. I really worried that his might affect my pre employment. I already signed my probationary contract but unfavorable medical results may be grounds for them to revoke my contract.
Avatar n tn I understand that this is considered an STD, but can also be gotten through other means (sharing towels etc,)...just how contagious is this? Should he be washing his clothes in the family washing machine? I have tried to get him to take vitamins, eat properly etc. during the summer. But i think he thinks i'm over reacting... His family practice doc. told him not worry about them, that they would go away...i sent him to a dermatologist.
242516 tn?1368223905 t hear anything in your lungs, you can be reassured that pneumonia is unlikely. If your doctor is worried that you might have pneumonia, a chest x-ray can look to see if there's an infection, especially for those who have coughed for more than 3 weeks.
Avatar n tn MRSA is very contagious. It can be passed by person to person through touch I believe. http://www.themrsavirus.com/mrsa-transmission.
Avatar n tn That is a good thing. But obviously there is something strange going on there. I think the best thing is to let the specialist follow your friends progress. Over time the doctor will be able to understand better what is going on, especially if the patient presents atypical for certain diseases looked into. You don't mention if your friend has any symptoms that he/she may be suffering from, such as shortness of breath, cough, chest tightness or wheeze?
Avatar f tn I would say that viruses transfer very easy. What happens a lot with people that get a virus like a cold or sore throat is that they get a secondary infection that is bacterial after the fact. All those things with "itis" in it like sinusitis, bronchitis, etc. Pneumonia is another. They are secondary infections in that the person was sick first and because say mucus gets trapped in the airway, it festers, bacteria grows. Yuck, right? Then you need antibiotics.
Avatar f tn yes being always cold is the real indication to have a chronic infection. Yes it is passed from person to person as it is contagious. The pneumonia I have is NOT through a tick bite. Mycoplasma can be transmitted by insects but also not necessarily.
