Avatar m tn Esophagitis, gastritis, gingivitis, ulcers in the mouth, recent dental work are common gastrointestinal causes of blood in saliva.Bronchitis, nosebleed, pneumonia, pneumothorax are respiratory problems presenting with blood in saliva. Other rare but serious causes are esophageal cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer etc. What are the other symptoms you have been having? A clinical examination and work up like X-ray chest, blood counts and endoscopy may be needed. I sincerely hope it helps.

Avatar n tn Sounds like you may have pneumonia and coughing up red blood is a cardinal sign of strep penumonia, this is the strain that can kill you and is the one you get vaccinated against every 5 years. Given your age, if the dr. makes a diagnosis of pneumonia you will be hospitalized for treatment (its standard protocol for anyone over 60), your also going to need to get a chest xray. In the mean time it's a good idea to take a break from smoking pot.
Avatar f tn If your symptoms of cough, sputum production and hemoptysis are persistent, you will need to re consult your doctor. Sputum streaked with blood can occur due to pneumonia. It could also occur due to other causes like tumors or pulmonary embolism. As the primary cause namely the pneumonia resolves, the sputum production and hemoptysis should resolve. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Lol you made me laugh, you need to tell the truth to your doctor, when he asks if you were coughing up blood in the sputum, Have you had a chest x-ray? Pnuemonia can take time to go, and its not cured in a couple of days, trust me. i know, because i have had streptococcus pnuemonia myself. Dont be silly and rush back to work, you wont do yourself any favours. Good luck and i hope you get well soon.
Avatar f tn Causes include lesions of the urinary tract, Kidney pathologies, trauma, tumors, malaria or stones in the urinary tract. In your case UTI needs to be probed thoroughly as to whether it is responsible for causing such symptoms. I feel that without clinical examination, pinpointing a diagnosis is tough. Also a complete urine examination and culture may be required. Please consult a urologist for confirming the diagnosis. I hope that helps. Kind regards.
Avatar f tn I have had bronchitis 3 times, pneumonia once, and a sinus infection once...in the past 3 months. I feel confused alot. My blood test show highly elevated white blood cells. First it was my lymphocytes, then it was my neutraphils, then it was my lymphocytes. Then my WBC dropped to a normal level, but my neutrophils were really low. The doc says she thinks its an autoimmune disease, a blood production disease or cancer.
Avatar f tn I'm a 32 year old male in Canada. I'm 185lb,5'9". I've had a dull chest pain on my left side right under my armpit area and around to the center of the chesty for the past 4 months. I've been ignoring it as it was such a dull pain I'd almost call it a sensation instead of pain. So I had the flu last week as did my whole family. I was hit hard, very weak, major headache, neck and back ache, fever. Never developed much coughing but felt a bit phlegm.
Avatar n tn It depends on where the joint pain is. Joint pain in the area of your ribs, chest or back might be normal if you are coughing a lot. Some medications can cause joint pain as well. Probably best to check in with your primary doc, they may want to check some blood work.
Avatar n tn Infiltrates typically mean infection, in your case, it was a subtle infiltrate....not too obvious but there non the less. You probably did have pneumonia, but since you have been on a week of antibiotics, it is resolving. There is evidence that it is there though by the sounds of your xray. It is good that it isn't a whopping infection though...hopefully the antibiotics finish their job :) Are you feeling better now? Any fevers, chills? If so, then I would talk to your doctor to touch base.
Avatar n tn I have an issue with that. Be carefull with use of blood pressure medications. High blood pressure in such a case is compensatory, and many make the decision to endure the high blood pressure while you have the infection. You will be under tremdous physician's pressure to continue to take the blood pressure meds. but limiting heartrate in your case is very dangerous. Get a BP cuff. Keep your progress posted.
Avatar f tn I have gotten Pneumonia 3 years in a row. I got the flu and Pneumonia shot this year and still got iPneumonia. What is going on with me. My doctor keeps giving me steroids that are blowing me up and not stopping me from catching this illness. Please help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Yes “walking pneumonia” is contagious. The development of more symptoms, in the face of antibiotic therapy, is worrisome as is the “side pain” which I assume to be pleurisy and suggests that this infection may fall into the category of complicated pneumonia. In this circumstance you should definitely request careful reevaluation by your doctor or his designate to include at a minimum a repeat chest X-ray, a complete blood count and culture of your sputum.
1618318 tn?1318196283 Noramlly aspiration pnuemonia would cause a bacterial pnuemonia. Because you actually inhale food particles or liquid. In other words your food is going down the wrong "pipe". Antibiotics should take care of any infection, you should also try some learning effective coughing skills also. This will aide in getting the particles back out of the airway. You can have blood drawn to see whether it is a virus or bacteria, but it is most likely bacterial pnuemonia.
7900821 tn?1395192104 Lung cancer can predispose one to pneumonia but in that case the pneumonia would recur in the same place in your lung each time. In addition it is quite unlikely that the radiologist would mistake lung cancer for pneumonia. That still leaves the question of why you should have recurrent pneumonia, unanswered and that is a question that will require further investigation.
Avatar n tn It showed pneumonia in the bottom of both lungs.. I took cipiro for 2 weeks...Felt better now Im coughing bad and coughing up yellow phelghm. New xrays showed nothing.Whats going on? 1396846 tn?1332459510 She has fluid build up for congestive heart failure, the fluid led to pneumonia, her blood sugar was at 468. They found a spot on her lung and said if it doesn't go away with the pneumonia then they want to remove it because it is too small to biopsy. I was at the hospital for 12 hours today, going to school tomorrow and going back to the hospital. She has been going through so much these past few months. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
620048 tn?1358018235 It might be the flare that is causing your recovery to be super slow or something is still brewing in your lungs. Also, did you do steroids for this flare? I don't recall if you did or not. Did you get any speech training to help with trying to prevent aspiration while you were in the hospital? I hope you make a turn for the better in the coming week. You have certainly paid your dues with this illness and flare.
Avatar n tn Two weekends ago I woke up with the usual backache associated with pneumonia. I get it twice a year, so on Monday I called my doctor and went in. I was not seen by the doctor but was given prescriptions for the pneumonia and an order to get x-rays done. On Thursday I got the call that the x-rays did not show pneumonia and to stop taking the medication. On Friday I was worse so I went to the ER. That's where they told me I dislocated my ribs from coughing due to the pneumonia.....
