Avatar m tn m an otherwise healthy 38 year old woman, and I just had my third bout of pneumonia. All three were in the lower lobe of my right lung. One was in autumn 2003, another in spring 2008, and the last in winter 2009. The third was the worst with a big area of consolidation. I was in the hospital for 5 days on IV antibiotics and oral antitbiotics. I had a repeat CT scan after an initial one, 4 weeks apart.
Avatar n tn last year i had pneumonia, bronchitis and pleurisy at the same time. took me 3 months to get over. never had pneumonia nor pleurisy in my life. chronic bronchitis is part of copd. along with emphysema. you should be on some inhalers at least. that is my opinion anyway. even if it is asthma...you need to be on something. you got to watch these doctors at times. they will brush things off too easily. take care of yourself.
518117 tn?1429276273 April, on the medhelp social forum posted in a journal, her son got it. He is now in the hospital with pneumonia. He is 5 years old. I think I will take the vaccine just in case.
Avatar f tn I know herbal remedies and most over the counter drugs are out but does anyone have any tips for pregnant women who get sick a lot? So far I have had two colds, an ear infection and walking pneumonia and I'm only 16 weeks along in only the beginning of winter. The only advice my doctor gives me is to wash my hands a lot but this clearly isn't working. I got my flu shot so I'm not too worried about that but I know constantly being sick is not good either.
Avatar n tn Another Dr told us there is no way it's asthma because it would get worse laying down. Missed 2 months of school last winter and 3 months this winter. Looking for answers or suggestions.
Avatar f tn I do have a history over the years of pneumonia off and on, and a cough/cold deal that I go through every single winter. This did begin when I was 15 with chest pain, and the pains have increased over the years. In April, there was one incident that was so bad I thought it was a heart attack. I'm supposed to go back to the primary care physician now, and she's supposed to talk to me about where I go next. What does that mean? What should I ask?
627818 tn?1271777026 It has been a rough winter health wise for both hubby and me. We were in emergency last night because he had abdominal pain. Turns out it was diverticulitis and not kidney stones like he thought! Liquid diet, pain meds and rest and he will be fine. I am on another Z-pack - went from a viral laryngitis to a cough so doc thought better safe than sorry as I was getting up "crud". Just had pneumonia and I don't want to go there again! I will try to check in more often!
Avatar m tn My nova scotia duck tolling retriever has been coughing on and off for years. Sometimes it brings up phlegm; other times not. We know she has allergies to ragweed, grass, weeds, flaxseed. Her food contains nothing that she's allergic to. I understand that her allergies may act up in the summer, but her coughing is year-round (we live where we have winter from Nov.-Mar. so the grasses are dead part of the year).
Avatar n tn She is very tiny for her age, she only weighs 38 pounds on a good day. She was diagnosed with asthma as a baby. She frequently gets sick and gets pneumonia in the winter time. She started running fever and not feeling well shortly after Christmas. There was a bug going around so I didn't think much of it. I gave her asthma medication to her regularly and she rested a lot over the weekend and seemed to feel better. She continued to run fever each afternoon (anywhere from 99.

Avatar m tn Years ago I worked in an office high on a hill by a window which allowed a very cold draft in on the left side of my head each winter. I worked there for 4 years and noticed left side temple, sinus sensitivity as a result. Since than I get serious sinus issues with post nasal drip at the slightest cold draft in that ear. The ear does not seem to be effected, but I have developed asthma and other complications which seem to reoccur each winter...

Avatar f tn Hi there. Actually it is not normal but it does NOT lead to pneumonia. Craving ice especially during pregnancy is an indication of iron deficiency. This is easily resolved. Talk to your doctor and they should give you suggestions to increase the iron in your diet (like green, leafy vegetables like spinach or red meat) or an iron supplement. They do prescribe iron tablets for those with a great deficiency. But talk to your doctor and go from there.
Avatar f tn The only symptom that worsens for me in winter is the numbness / disordered sensation in my limbs, especially my left hand. The sensations intensify and turn my hand into a useless, clumsy stump. It takes a few hours to thaw out and feel like my usual normal (still abnormal but not as bad). It was worst when cleaning ice and snow off my car in minus 40 Celsius weather in northern Alberta. Now that I'm in Calgary, and have a garage :) , I expect not to suffer quite so much.
Avatar f tn Hi everybody. I don't get on here that often anymore. I do alot of browsing silently. Anyhow, yesterday I got my flu shot. I get them every year. Just for those who may not know, the H1N1 vaccine is included in the seasonal flu vaccine this year. Last year, I got both shots and had no problems w/the H1N1 vax. I just wanted to let you know that in case you might be wondering about the H1N1 part.
Avatar n tn Two weekends ago I woke up with the usual backache associated with pneumonia. I get it twice a year, so on Monday I called my doctor and went in. I was not seen by the doctor but was given prescriptions for the pneumonia and an order to get x-rays done. On Thursday I got the call that the x-rays did not show pneumonia and to stop taking the medication. On Friday I was worse so I went to the ER. That's where they told me I dislocated my ribs from coughing due to the pneumonia.....
973741 tn?1342342773 It's here. My son's soccer team had four kids out last week due to 'it' (you know, sore throat, congestion, cough). Since viruses are the starting point to more serious things like the "itis's . . . sinusitis, bronchitis, well . . . and pneumonia . . . avoiding colds and viruses is really prudent. I have my 'ways. Let's share to see if we can come up with a good list!
