Avatar n tn why can sickle cell disease patients NOT receive procrit therapy? Is it because there rbc's are already being attacked?
Avatar f tn So, I just realized something. By AA, you meant African American. I was thinking you were referring to your hemoglobin make-up. Amongst the medical community, AA when referring to sickle cell means the genetic makeup of your hemoglobin gene. For example, "A" is adult hemoglobin gene, while "S" is sickle gene (found in people woth sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease).
Avatar f tn Hello, Microscopic hematuria can be due to urinary tract (bladder) infection, swelling in the filtering system of the kidneys ,stone in bladder or in a kidney, blood disease, like sickle cell anemia, certain medicines and tumors in the urinary tract. You have already undergone cystoscopy which has ruled out most of the cases. I suggest you to get done an ultrasound abdomen to look for any kidney stone and blood tests for sickle cell anemia. I hope it helps.
Avatar n tn - have a damaged spleen or no spleen - have sickle-cell disease - have HIV infection or AIDS - have cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma - have nephrotic syndrome - have had an organ or bone marrow transplant - are taking medication that lowers immunity (such as chemotherapy or long-term steroids). When a second dose is given, it should be given 5 years after the first dose. Here is a Vaccine Information Statement with more information: http://www.cdc.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Speaking very generally, if you carry sickle cell trait and your wife carries sickle cell trait, your child will have a 50% chance to carry sickle cell trait, a 25% chance to get sickle cell anemia, and a 25% chance to get neither the trait or the illness. But read the following carefully because that is a general statement only and you need to be more specific. http://www.sicklecellsociety.
Avatar f tn My Boyfriend Has Sickle Cell & I Don't..Is There Any Chance My Baby Will Be Born With It Or Just The Trait?? & If It Is Only The Trait Will He Still Feel A Little Bit Of Pain?
Avatar f tn Does anyone have a child with sickle cell or know anyone? My boyfriend has it but I do not.
Avatar f tn s something like a 1 in 4 chance that your child could have sickle cell every time you conceive together. The only thing you need to do right now is have your doctor request the necessary blood work.
5555127 tn?1373562243 The doctor called and said she looked at my blood and i need to get tested for sickle cell anemia. If i had that wouldnt i know? Has anyone gone through this? Im terrofied somethings wrong with me!
Avatar f tn it said that if only one parent has the sickle cell gene only the baby will be a carrier (sickle cell trait) he does not have sickle cell disease. No side effects. If both parents have it then the baby has it also. But still it the baby has ir not all experience pain or any type of symptoms.

750683 tn?1311856959 I have watched 5 people suffer their entire lives with Sickle Cell Disease and then die. I didn't want to bring a child into the world only to suffer just because I long to have a baby...it was a difficult decision to make but we believe we did what was right. My love of protecting my baby from years of torment and pain led me to my decision.
Avatar n tn Another possibility is of sickle cell disorder. Sickle cell disease is an inherited disorder in which red blood cells (RBCs) are abnormally shaped. I suggest you to discuss this possibility also with your urologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
5633047 tn?1371909510 If people who had sickle cell couldn't have successful pregnancies, there would be no more sickle cell, since it is a genetically transmitted disease -- if those who had it could not reproduce, it would be gone. If the doctor was just automatically assuming that is why you miscarried, he is being a little casual in his diagnosis.

2072659 tn?1340597373 So I just found out that along with my partner, I also have the sickle cell trait! Which means there is a 50 50 chance my baby will have the disease :`( I was wondering if anyone has had a positive turn out even though them and their partner both had the disease??
Avatar f tn I found out that I am a carrier for Sickle cell anemia and that if my partner has it to my son can get it on top of the fact of there being a chance of him being a premature baby he may now have to deal with this.I have also been hospitalized for the past week because I have a thinning cervix. I don't think I can handle anymore bad news.
Avatar f tn That means you carry the sickle cell trait in your genes. You don't have it but it opens the possibility for your child to have it.
