Pneumonia in old age

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia in old age

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
Avatar f tn my father died in 1976 at age 34, he was in very good health, not over weight or any other problems that i know of. he did have pneumonia twice within a few months of his death. he was very sick 3 days before he died and had beed to 3 different hospitals and they all sent him home. on his autopsy report it said that he died of myocardio infarction. after all these years i still can't believe this. how could a healthy young man die of a heart attack.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 7 years old. She is very tiny for her age, she only weighs 38 pounds on a good day. She was diagnosed with asthma as a baby. She frequently gets sick and gets pneumonia in the winter time. She started running fever and not feeling well shortly after Christmas. There was a bug going around so I didn't think much of it. I gave her asthma medication to her regularly and she rested a lot over the weekend and seemed to feel better.
Avatar n tn I’m a 61 year old male & have smoking pot nearly every day for about 4 years. I have been wheezing for about 2 months. Last week I coughed up a large wad of very red blood & my tonsils felt swollen. I don’t have a cough. Then nothing until again this morning I coughed up a little blood mixed with spit. I have been under a lot of stress lately & have lost a dear pet. Any ideas of what I might have? Thank you.
Avatar f tn E 6x days ago with sever stomach pains. Since she has been in she has been diagnosed with a severe bowel infection, pneumonia and from yesterday her heart rate has dropped to 42. Today she woke up and her heart rate is now 36/38- I understand this is VERY dangerous. The doctors have absolutely NO idea what could be causing it. Apparently its not her medication (antibiotics/ steroids) its not a heart murmur or anything else obvious, she also feels very dizzy and has chest pains- she is ONLY 27!

Avatar n tn My now 2 year old has had pneumonia 3 times in the past year. And my 3 month old has had it once now. All the times they have had pneumonia the doctor predscribed antibiotics. Right now both are getting colds and I'm scared it will turn into pneumonia again. How can I prevent it from recurring into pneumonia? Can I do something right now so the cold will not develop into pneumonia? What am I doing wrong?
Avatar n tn I had pneumonia at the age of 12 years old. I think it sounds more like pneumonia than quitting smoking which I have done and did not feel dizzy or other symptoms you mention. Pneumonia is hell. I have worn a patch in the past then taken it off without symptoms. Not sure I have been much help but have tried, best wishes, Nicky.
Avatar m tn Hi, My boy has down syndrome, is 5 years old and are in the same boat. He gets pneumonia every March and has for the last 4 years. This year we have added September and October. We usually stay at the hospital with agressive rounds of breathing treatments and heavy oxygen. My son just had his bronc Nov 29th. I am waiting for labs as well. What to do? Have you heard anything either???

Avatar f tn I'm a 32 year old male in Canada. I'm 185lb,5'9". I've had a dull chest pain on my left side right under my armpit area and around to the center of the chesty for the past 4 months. I've been ignoring it as it was such a dull pain I'd almost call it a sensation instead of pain. So I had the flu last week as did my whole family. I was hit hard, very weak, major headache, neck and back ache, fever. Never developed much coughing but felt a bit phlegm.
Avatar m tn I am 55 years of age and I have had Pneumonia twice. I asked my doctor if I could get the pneumonia shot this year since I struggled so much last year with my second bout of Pneumonia. He said I should only get the shot if I am 65 years old or diabetic. I do not want to struggle this year like I did last year. Am I too young? Am I not eligible? Is it a health risk for me to get this shot?
Avatar f tn t know how the statistics would apply to someone in their 90s; nor if old age has an impact on how quickly the disease advances. I would think that old age could very well take the person before they actually succumb to the disease... but, that's just my non-professional, uneducated guess.

Avatar f tn My son is 7 years old and has had pneumonia twice in the last 2 years. The second time they told me it returned in the exact same spot. They told me to have another xray in 6 weeks. Hes otherwise a healthy boy what would cause it to return in the same spot. I know there are probably many causes but what comes to mind?
Avatar f tn m only so nervous about pneumonia because when my sister was a baby, my mom brought her into the hospital because her chest was caving in (later the Dr told my mom she was in respiratory arrest).
Avatar n tn Hi community, Over a year ago I had a brief exposure of unprotected(I'm female)vaginal sex. No ejaculation and less than a few minutes. I had the 4th gen test at almost 8 weeks and almost 10 weeks. In addition I performed an at home Oraquick at 6 and 6 1/2 months. All negative. Dr. Hook and my GP both assured me I am negative. However, I recently for the first time in my life have been diagnosed with bacterial lobar pneumonia. I'm healthy and in my 30s.
Avatar f tn My father, 87, had pneumonia over a year and a half ago (one of the most common kinds according to blood tests afterwards) and he was declared to be ok within two months (clear x-rays, no congestion, cough or sign in blood tests) Yet he has had trouble recovering his full strength in these last 18 months, and has had a condition that has plagued him, on and off, since then. The condition involves a sensitivity to cold - if he gets in a draft, he starts to overheat from the inside.
Avatar f tn I'm hoping someone can help me. I had community acquired pneumonia at Christmas 15 for the first time which required 2 nights hospital stay. Prior to this if not had any real health issues, ex social smoker ie maybe 2/3 cigarettes every couple of weeks for about 8 years until about 13 months ago. 7 months later I got pneumonia again (still recovering now 3 weeks later).
