Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia home treatment child

pneumonia

Avatar n tn Bacterial or viral lung infection can precipitate asthma with wheezing in a person genetically predisposed to asthma. Treatment of the presumed asthma, aside from treatment of the infectious pneumonia, is appropriate. So, this could be asthma, superimposed on pneumonia. Your son could have whooping cough, despite immunization against it. If his fever and sweating with clammy skin has subsided, it is probably a sign that the antibiotic therapy has been effective and the pneumonia is clearing.

He ended up going back to Children's E.R. where they said he had decreased air movement in his lower left lobe and put him on Amox-Clav ES for 14 days. He is still running fever with a wet cough.

Avatar n tn Thank you for your time and opinion... when the ER doc was told of the recent pneumonia, he dismissed it like it didn't matter in the least; that was my first 'strike' against this person. X'rays followed, and again not a word about the Pneumonia; if it was cleared up or not. He just said it was the 'Spontaneous Lung collapse'.. He was admitted and then the Chest tube soon after. The child suffered in pain the whole time and thru out the night.
620048 tn?1358018235 that is recommended for treatment of pneumonia. The steroid is probably more for your COPD then the pneumonia itself as your breathing is probably worse. In hospital they would have started you on IV steroids and then tapered you to the oral dose. most people stay in the hospital only a few days with moderate pneumonia. With the added respiratory problems maybe you would have stayed in another day or two. Depending on your respiratory status prior to the pneumonia could be 2-4 weeks.
Avatar n tn If you have a virus that resulted in pneumonia, while allopathic medicine has little in the way of anti-virals, there are plants that have anti-viral properties. Olive leaf and elderberry are two examples. Herb Pharm makes a tincture that helps with virus control. That being said, though, and assuming this is viral in nature, once you have pneumonia you have progressed significantly through the viral process already and the more important thing is clearing the lungs.
Avatar m tn The question is whether I should continue the interferon treatment when I am fighting the pneumonia. Your kind advice is very much appreciated. Many thanks. I myself has also had bronchiectasis (at lingular) though the pneumonia this time is at right lobe.

Avatar m tn They most often occur due to pneumonia, though they can occur due to other conditions as well. Generally treatment of the original condition (e.g., treating pneumonia with antibiotics) is the course to follow, and they resolve after a while with no other intervention. Be sure to speak with your son's doctor about what caused the condition and what the course of treatment will be.
Avatar f tn As many of you know I was diagnosed with pneumonia after my second treatment. Dr said I am now at a stage 3, due to all of the hurry up and wait that has been going on with my immune system. The pneumonia is just about cleared up, but now have pleurisy (ouch) The gyn/onc is recommending IP chemo. What is this and are the side effects atrocious. Would this help to keep from developing these off the wall infections?
1444593 tn?1284397979 As he is only 3 months old I think it would be a good idea to take him back to the doctor because as you say he has an infection which needs addressing, possibly a differant kind of anti biotic I would take him back as soon as you can to seek further treatment for him Good luck let us know how he is doing.

Avatar n tn Husband had headache with 103 fever off and on (mostly on) for more than a week. Finally, on the third time to the ER, they admitted him, diagnosing with pneumonia. He's been at the hospital for a week now, and although fever and headache gone, after CT scan and a couple other procedures, they just told him that his pneumonia hasn't gone away. The doctor said he's going to try different treatment, and tomorrow get a lung biopsy.
Avatar n tn Buddy was diagnosed with pneumonia and has gone through a course of doggy antibiotics and 3 courses of human antibiotics. The right lung is full of fluid. He would get better, then be energetic and get worse. It was suggested that he may not have pneumonia but CHF. Is there anything to do to help him. The vet doesn't seem to have any suggestions. Would a diuretic help? He's starting to not eat now.
Avatar m tn He did test positive for pneumonia in March, and the second set of x-rays (after 10 days of treatment ) showed that the pneumonia was still present but improving. Besides a low grade fever he tends to get a rash that covers his entire stomach, back, neck and parts of his arms and legs. He also has broken blood vessels that are all over his neck- appearing and then going away.

Avatar n tn Ending theprednisone will cause immediate excessmucus which can be dealth with by the inhaler. Initially you may need an hourly treatment. Maybe for the first six hours. Go to every six hours as soon as possible. Take two 800mg Ibuprifin with an eight hour intervalwith food the first day. Each subsequent day take 100mg Ibuprufin 1n 200mg doses at three hour intervals. This is a mild anti-inflammatory which will settle down the lung.
Avatar n tn Hi bibban12, The thing about pneumonia is it's just a broad term for lung inflammation, and the air sacs filling up with fluid, but it isn't a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia.
