Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia home management

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.

Avatar m tn My husband has a G-tube for all food, meds, hydration resulting from radiation to tongue years ago. His major problem is aspiration pneumonia since the valve to his airway(s) does not close and is in open position constantly. Reflux of food and gases causes repeated pneumonia episodes, the latest resulting in more than 2 months in 4 hospitals and extreme loss of weight. He is facing jejunostomy in the very near future. We are told that later, fundoplication may be great help to him.

Avatar f tn Sometimes there are coughing episodes if the heart is not pumping efficiently as it creates pumonary congestion. Also, there are some heart medicine that has a side effect of coughing. Considering your fathr's health issues, it may be a good idea to consult with a doctor to rule out serious condition. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Avatar f tn My baby has been diagnosed with pneumonia, a week ago. She still acts as if she is in pain, and has short rapid breaths. She is on Zeniquin, and a pain med. She was originally in an oxygen kennel for 2 days, and was pretty good when we brought her home. Now it seems like she gets these bouts of gasping for air, her gums are still pink. I am startin to think her vets arent sure what is wrong with her.

Avatar n tn and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia. I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.
Avatar f tn palliative management. Unfortunately there is little that we can do/ suggest online regarding pain management in the situation without a detailed clinical evaluation. I would suggest discussing the situation directly with his treating oncologist/ pulmonologist and a pain management specialist for suggestion of an appropriate management plan. Take care!
Avatar f tn The mainstay of management is liberal use of moisturizers after washing with luke warm water. Soap should be used minimally. Moisturizers should be reapplied liberally during the day. Also hydrate and protect hands and wrists by applying a moisturizing cream. At night, repair them with creams formulated from glycolic acid—a must for improving skin texture and tone. For a more intensive nighttime treatment, apply cream and then cover hands with gloves or socks.

Avatar n tn t say a word other than to be careful driving home. They sent me home. On the seventh day, I could not take the pain any longer. I called my doctor and was informed that the x-rays showed no pneumonia and to discontinue the meds. By late afternoon, I could not do anything without being in pain so I had a friends drive me to the ER. Once at the ER, a nurse took the whole bag of my rescent prescriptions and threw them away while I was in the waiting room. I finally got to see the doctor.
Avatar n tn My 12 year old daughter was diagnosed with swine flu back in October...doc sent her home and said she would be fine even though I insisted there was more to it...her breathing was shallow and her chest hurt, 3 days later she ended up in icu...diagnosed with septic shock due to bilateral pneumonia with complications of a right sided pleural effusion. We almost lost her but luckily the doctor drained enough fluid to help her breath on her own again. After 5 days in icu she was placed on peds...
Avatar n tn He does not want to be reassessed and so we have had him moved to a nursing facility for medical management. Before all of this started he was living in an assited living home. I guess my question is: What else can we expect to fail in his body from the heart and also the kidney's?
Avatar n tn Perhaps your oxygen levels are lower than your norm...do you have a pulse oximeter at home to check? That could also explain how you feel. I can't think of anything else to add...I hope that this helps.
Avatar f tn I had the same situation before but just a pneumonia bilateral not covid pneumonia. Are you feeling fine now? Based on my research on pneumonia, the person having it usually recovers for about 6 months. That is totally normal coz you're still on process of healing your lungs and our body is recovering from the illness due to pneumonia. Until now I am having the urge of taking deep breaths and still working on it until my breathing is normal.
Avatar f tn Next, the primary had an X-ray (normal results). After she referred me to a pain management doctor. I also went to another physical therapist who thought the concern was my lack of small stomach muscle control from multiple pregnancies and surgeries of the abdominal area. MRIs of the lower back we're good. I was also seeking chiropractic care. She believes it is all structural. The pain moved to my mid back and neck about 8 months ago.
Avatar n tn 67 years old, now 75 has been diagonosed with COPD and gets chronic pneumonia. 43 now 53 has suffered a collapsed lung, chronic pneumonia, and fibers in his lungs. What I viewed as an isolated instances has got me to think differently. Home has carpet that is 28 years old. This carpet was installed during a time with the older two were smokers. The younger occupant moved in 13 years ago. The home has also had dogs, cat, birds. Outside of asbestos what causes fibers in the lungs?
