Avatar m tn We had to make the doctor send us for a sputum test which the gram stain showed moderate gram positive bacilli, moderate gram positive cocci, and few gram negative bacilli, as well as moderate wbc.
Avatar m tn from these tests only one result come up positive, which was for gram negative diplococci. As the results came out in Chinese i tried to get more information about what it was... with no progress. The doctor proposed an IV solution... which i have learned to be very common in china for every situation...which would take up to 2 or 3 sessions of 280 USD each. This IV, according to the doctor, could not be replaced by a antibiotic pill.

Avatar n tn Hi. All the terms you mentioned do not indicate the presence of cancer. What they point to is the presence of infection in your husband's lung (e.g. pneumonia or bronchitis). Gram positive rods are a type of bacteria typically found in lung infections, while "moderate white blood cells seen" indicate an inflammatory reaction to the infection.
Avatar m tn He may need a different anti-biotic for a different pathogen. Is it gram positive or gram negative? There are so many questions unanswered that it would be wise to see a doc. 3 weeks is too long...

Avatar m tn After this course of treatment, I was diagnosed with mild pneumonia, a urinalysis was negative and prescribed Avelox and flomax. Over the next week my pneumonia got better, but my prostate felt the same. My dr. then prescribed cipro for one month. I'm on the third week, I feel better if I don't sit for long periods or run around to much, but am paranoid of passing anything on to my wife.

Avatar m tn After a bout of pneumonia including weeks of IV antibiotics in the hospital I came home to more IV antibiotics via home health care. I was also taking anti-fungals having developed thrush from probably formoterol fumarate inhalers. I am also dealing with ringworm. Nothing grew from the cultures taken from blood, sputum, or a specimen from endoscopy. The pneumonia abated and while at home I felt remarkably better. Then my girlfriend noticed my hair was falling out at an alarming rate.
Avatar f tn Gram-negative simply meens that the bacteria did not stain with negative dye, negative bacteria is harder to kill with antibiotics than positive. Don't worry it is a good thing. I am a nurse.

Avatar m tn hi doc. today i got my test result. gram postive and gram negative were found in swab test. gonorrhea and chlamydia are both negative. since i had read a lot on the forum before i went to the test, i know the proper treatment for ngu is doxicycline or azithromynthin. but my doctor insisted on cefixime for ngu when i told him what i heard about on the internet. so my question: is cefixime effective against ngu, specifically gram negative and gram positive in my case?
Avatar n tn Excess fluid that accumulates between the two pleural layers (or pleural effusion) can be caused by a variety of issues depending on the type of fluid obtained such as bacterial pneumonia, cancer, viral infection, and pulmonary embolism, tuberculosis, autoimmune disease, bleeding, left ventricular failure, cirrhosis and nephrotic syndrome. Additional diagnostic tests including gram stain and culture, blood tests and cytopathology may help determine the cause.
Avatar m tn He claims he also had a check and he was std free...I went to the clinic and my Gram stain was negative (cervical). He had been on antibiotics and I tried to see if perhaps he thought about a false positive but he is absolutely sure I "burned"him AND will not listen. I was excited when my gram stain was negative but after reading about how a gram stain is not an effective in diagnosing women I am now worried and I still have a week to wait for my other test results (culture).
Avatar m tn Recently I had a swab test (I believe it was a Gram Stain test but they called it swab test) done at an STD Clinic. The test came back negative for Gonorrhea and NGU. I was told to call back in 7 days. It has been 5 days and I am bouncong off the wall. I have two primary questions: 1) I urinated about 1-1 1/2 hours before the swab. Would this have a huge effect on the outcome of the test. 2) How reliable is the test with a good sample.
