Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia gram negative

pneumonia

Avatar n tn The test results came back NEGATIVE for all the basic std's (chlamydia, gonorrhea etc...). It has been two weeks since I took the antibiotics and symptoms are SLOWLY going away but I am still experiencing intermittent pain during urination and sensitivity in my urethra if I squeeze my penis near the middle to tip. I have several questions: Is it normal for ngu (which I assume is what I have) symptoms to persist as long as two weeks after treatment? Will a second dose be needed?
Avatar f tn I tested positive for several bacteria infections including gram positive cocci 10,000-50,000, citrobactor >100,000, and Klebsiella pneumonia spp >100,000 in my urine which then lead me to get tested for STD's. Tested positive for chlamydia. Husband tests negative but did admit he cheated on me 2 years ago. Thing is I didn't start having any symptoms until I took antibiotics for the urine bacteria that's why I went to gyn after that.
Avatar m tn We had to make the doctor send us for a sputum test which the gram stain showed moderate gram positive bacilli, moderate gram positive cocci, and few gram negative bacilli, as well as moderate wbc.
Avatar f tn Negative for Fungal Elements (d) Gram Staining - Result: WBC = 3-4/HPF E. Cells = 0-2/HPF Gram Positive COCCI in PAIRS = 0-2/OIF My question is this. Do I have a PTB, KOCH Disease or TB? Im bothered about my chest Xray (SPOT VIEW) and my gram staining results. I was then cured for Pneumonia way back 2004. Is it the scar they see on my xray?

Avatar m tn He may need a different anti-biotic for a different pathogen. Is it gram positive or gram negative? There are so many questions unanswered that it would be wise to see a doc. 3 weeks is too long...

Avatar m tn moved her to regular floor then back when lung aspiration and lack of nutrition caused her BP to fall a little. NOW we have been told she contracted gram negative bacteria, rpobalby at an IV site? So here is my question: if it seems she is responding to nutrition and is still lucid and trying to move her arms and legs, and even sit up once and awhile (eating is still challenge due to nose tube), is there a possibility that she can survive this?
Avatar n tn AFB and PAS stains were negative for acid-fast bacilli and fungal elements (No fungus isolated at 4 weeks). However, the gram stain showed, “small aggregates of both gram positive cocci and gram positive rods.” A tissue culture from the biopsy had moderate growth of Actinomyces odontolyticus and a protected micro brush had light growth of Actinomyces odontolyticus at 1,600 CFU/ml. Pen-VK 500mg q.i.d. was started for the Actinomyces.
Avatar n tn At the least he coughed a bit in the summer, at the worst ( one time) he got bronchitis and ended up with a gram negative pneumonia. He survived on O2 and IV antibiotics and is now well. During this period he has become weaker in his rear legs. He gets up fine, but when he lays down he lowers his butt and then does this strange 'dance' with his front legs to move his body into a position that is comfortable.

Avatar n tn I went through at least 7 doctors and around 1500 if not more.... just to finally find a doctor that would do one of the most basic and routine methods of trying to find a cause & the appropriate cure for UTI issues.
Avatar f tn I was told that the RPR and TPPA were also done and were negative. I was advised to go for another test to confirm as it could possibly be false-positive. My exposures were unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex with csw in May 2018 and another recent one 10 days ago (same exposure). What are the odds that it was indeed a false-positive (which I hope is the case). I am unable and very scared. I just found out and will be going for second test tomorrow.

Avatar m tn So it would seem 116,000 would be flagged for being low.
Avatar m tn The most immediate danger might be from bacteremic shock, where the body reacts to an endotoxin from a (usually gram-negative) bacteria and blood pressure goes way too low. Ask what his BP is, to maybe provide yourself with a sign post as to the future course Next might be the danger from pneumonia, which wouldn't be a big concern at his age but can be a very big concern with his weakened condition.
Avatar n tn Amoxicillan is effective against only certain varieties of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The intestinal infection may be due to a bacteria against which this antibiotic is not effective. A single antibiotic is never used to combat helibactor plylori infections. Three antibiotics are used at the same time.
Avatar n tn I freaked out and went to a doctor on Monday 11/8 to get tested for chlamydia/ghonnorreah (they also tested me for HIV for some wierd reason). Because of her bleeding the doctor also gave me 1 gram of Azithromycin that I took the same day 11/8. I spoke with her the next day and she told me I was the first person she had been with since she had her baby (two months ago I believe). 1) Waitng on the results form the doctor, but is a two day test for chlamydia/ghonnorreah to soon?
Avatar m tn Tested positive for TB 10/98 lung section removed, spot determined to be cryptococus completed TB meds 4/2006 got bacteria while on cruise in Belize. Avatar m tn After this course of treatment, I was diagnosed with mild pneumonia, a urinalysis was negative and prescribed Avelox and flomax. Over the next week my pneumonia got better, but my prostate felt the same. My dr. then prescribed cipro for one month. I'm on the third week, I feel better if I don't sit for long periods or run around to much, but am paranoid of passing anything on to my wife.
Avatar f tn This came from Yahoo Plastic surgery patients have carried a new class of superbugs resistant to almost all antibiotics from South Asia to Britain and they could spread worldwide, researchers reported Wednesday. Many hospital infections that were already difficult to treat have become even more impervious to drugs thanks to a recently discovered gene that can jump across different species of bacteria.
Avatar n tn We went to my physician and of course went through all of the common tests...Urine test and swab for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Both came back negative as we expected. I have been in great health and this is the first illness in over 2 years outside of a common cold. He gave me 1 gram of Zithromax and said it should take care of the problem. It has been 3 days and I am feeling better every day. My doctor just chalked it up to NGU and said it can happen?
Avatar m tn He was on a ventilator for two weeks, and unconscious for a month before he woke up. He ran a fever for two weeks, and had gram negative coccus pneumonia. Now, almost six weeks out, he can maintain consciousness for most of the day, and is in physical therapy and is making daily progress. His only paralysis is in his right hand. He is gaining strength in his left hand, neck and legs. He still has a trach tube, a g-tube and a catheter.
888262 tn?1241158516 The results stated that Klebsiella pneumonaie was detected but was negative for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. No gram positive bacteria was also noted. My physician still decided for me to undergo treatment for 7 months and I was already done with it. My 2-month interval chest x-ray AP view had a constant impression of no interval change in the fibrolinear densities in the left upper lung. I would like to ask, was it really PTB as diagnosed by the physician? Or a potent pneumonia?
280418 tn?1306329510 Then collaborated with bilateral arthritis, night sweats, low grade fevers, muscle pain and inflammation, it was enough to do a biopsy, the lung biopsy found the non necrotizing multi nucleated giant cell granuloma that they consider to be Sarcoidosis, collaborated by cultures they perform coming out negative, mainly M. Tuberculosis, Mycoplasma Pneumonia, Hystoplasmosis, HSV, and general gram stains for other bacteria.
Avatar m tn I ended up going to the ER, they gave me a Mono test, strep, and rapid strep tests which all came back negative. So they send me home and told me it was a "viral infection" and that it will clear up in a couple times. Went home, and my flu like symptoms got so bad I couldn't even get out of bed and my tonsils were so swollen that they were touching. Needless to say, I couldn't bare the pain and ended up going back to the ER and getting treated like I had strep with MORE antibiotics.
280418 tn?1306329510 I am reading about people getting C-Diff from long term antibiotic treatment. My husband had C-Diff after antibiotics for pneumonia and he literally almost withered away. I thought he might die. It took him one month and a course of Flagyl and a course of Vancomycin to kill the nasty bug. I talked to my friend last night who is an MD and he said I could develop a MRSA infection? I don't understand what this treatment entails, fully and I am slowly becoming more and more scared.
