Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia fever

pneumonia

Avatar n tn Hi and sorry you are ill. It takes 1-3 weeks to get over viral pneumonia but it can take a little longer depending on your age and health. You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture.
Avatar m tn Yes, pneumonia can cause the symptoms you're experiencing. Fever alone can cause chills and headache. I'm presuming they have put you on an antibiotic for the pneumonia? When did you go to the ER? If it's been more than just a couple of days and you're on antibiotics, you definitely should check in with your primary care doctor - if the antibiotics haven't helped you feel any better after a few days, you may need a different one.
Avatar f tn Avoid taking medications to reduce the fever. Fever is part of the immune response system. Many bacteria can only replicate within narrow temperature ranges. Usually a fever suggests a bacterial infection. I suspect you have taken meds to lower the fever. Yellow mucus is the hallmark of a bacterial infection, but not always. Ideally one takes a culture before prescribing, however current practice is a broad spectrum antibiotic.
Avatar n tn his fever rises everyday to over 103 if i dont give him tylenol and motrin. still having a fever 5 days later he now as pneumonia. this mornig he had a fever again when he woke and the hives on his body were huge. when his fever is gone from the motrin or tylenol and he takes benidril the hives go away. hes been on a strong antibiotic for his pneumonia but hes still getting fevers over 103 and its been 12 days straight now. any suggestions on what it could be??
Avatar f tn Then back to school, another phone call from school that he had a fever. Stay home the next day. Then back to school and ANOTHER call that he had a fever! That's when I took him to the doctors and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. No cough!! He did feel better after about 2 days though with antibiotics. Anyway, there are different reasons we get pneumonia. People think of bacterial or viral. We can also have chemical or traumatic. And pneumonia is not like bronchitis.
2061712 tn?1355244263 Just like anytime u get sick just get plenty of rest, drink a ton of fluids, and watch for a fever. Pneumonia doesnt just develop overnight its an untreated bacterial infection that settles in your lungs. If you develop a fever or have trouble breathing make sure to get checked out.
Avatar f tn Hello :) I just got diagnosed with walking pneumonia in my right lung (he said it’s pretty significant) but I don’t have any symptoms except an off and on low grade fever and I’m a little extra exhausted. No cough or anything. Is that normal???? Is there anything I should be watching out for to know if it gets worse? I started a z pack and he said call me Monday if you don’t feel better because he’d want blood work and x rays. But I hardly feel bad to know if I’m feeling better.
Avatar f tn No my daughter gets pneumonia a lot...because she has asthma...when they have it they will have a high fever non stop and usually medicine won't make it go away...also they won't eat when they have pneumonia either... like anything...she probably does have a cold and you can't really do.anything for it except let it go away on its own and try to make her as comfy as possible.
Avatar f tn Before they placed me to prednisone I was complaining of night sweat, body aches and fever. I undergo a lot of test but it came all negative, until now I'm suffering from all of this symptoms and they can't even ruled out my fever. It's really hard because everyday I had a fever of 102'F. They already taper my prednisone to 20mg everyday and my doctor gave me a new meds.
Avatar f tn i have been showing signs of pneumonia lately and also felt a small bum under my armpit but cannot see anything. what i want to know is can the axillary lymph node be linked to pneumonia because usually i hear it swells in the neck? i also was using doxycycline 100 mg and septra for chlamydia. its kinda strange how pneumonia just popped up a while after my chlamydia and cleared up. i am really freaking out im going for a test today.
Avatar n tn Flu shots have never bothered me, but I had a terrible reaction to the pneumonia vaccine - high fever, chills, swollen/painful arm, no appetite....
Avatar n tn He also had diarrhea and short/fast breathing, coughing, clear runny nose. He seems to respond to Tylenol well but the fever just keeps coming back, worse at night. I took him to the doctors once, doc said he had bad cold, but that was almost 5 days ago, and he still has a fever.... do I need to be worried?
Avatar f tn My daughter has have a low grade on and off fever for about 6 weeks now. she had a chest xray done on thursday and showed pneumonia. She started on amoxicillin on thursday and azithromycin on friday. She had a fever again on monday night after her shower. today she felt warm to the touch but normal rectal and tympanic temp. shouldn't the fevers be gone by now because of the antibiotics? We live near phoenix az and she got tested for valley fever the results are still pending.
Avatar n tn I had pneumonia 7 years ago 6 weeks after having a baby. I was exhausted for weeks. The fact that your fever is gone is good. It takes a while to feel "back to normal" after pneumonia.
Avatar n tn No fever. Not eating. She was put on pencillin. She is still coughing 3 days later and is barely eating. Could she have aspiration pneumonia and was this caused by the anesthesia? Should I worry?
Avatar f tn I had pneumonia a couple months ago. I called when my fever got to 100.3 they told me to take Tylenol and I didnt need to call or go in unless it got to 102.
Avatar f tn Im 41 and typically healthy but I caught pneumonia and I'm not being better. It's been a week and the fever is still high and I feel crunmy! Was to the hospital twice and they sent me home with augmentin. That didn't work so my doctor put me on levofloxcine and I feel better for a little them it comes back strong..when will this go away?
Avatar n tn sometimes this can be a sign of pneumonia, you will not have a produtive cough most of the time and youll have fever, go see your MD Monday and take fever reducers until then
1353681 tn?1387083733 I believe I have an upper respiratory infection.. the one with the drawn out, long, hard cough :( I do feel mucous now, after a week, but also noticed a couple mins of wheezing with it earlier. It has not come in several hours since then, but someone said wheezing is a symptom of pneumonia. I don't have any other symptoms of pneumonia though, like fever, sweats, or chills. Is it possible an upper respiratory infection can have wheezing sometimes too and it is NOT pneumonia?
Avatar n tn 5 fever. My joint are in agony and I am experiencing blade like stabs of pain through my chest. Should I worry?
211940 tn?1267881266 He has many times been diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia, he always gets very high fever 39,5 feels terrible right before the fever hits, then he feels better and the fever goes away in 12-24 hours. He has not always got medicines for this, but it seems to get better even without it. So I think you would always get a high fever (even for a very short time) if you have pneumonia. I hope the PCP will help you figure this out.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed one month ago with lower left lobe pneumonia, which came on acutely with sharp pain on inhalation, and then developed into fever, aches, etc. I was put on antibiotics and rest, and was still not 100 percent, but making slow progress. Now, exactly one month later, I have come down with a fever again, along with a weird tickly feeling in the throat/chest, and moderately dry cough, terrible body aches, fatigue, etc.
994239 tn?1321203620 I was diagnosed with Pneumonia, following flu last week. I have no health problems prior. I am wondering what it might mean, that I have absolutley no cough or congestion. I can feel pain pretty bad especially when I breathe in. I have had high fevers, chills, and all but NO cough and NO phlegm whatsoever. The Pneumonia was diagnosed on a chest xray. Does it mean anything if I simply do not cough and have no desire to? Doesn't that infection have to come out somehow?
Avatar n tn Fever is actually a positive thing. It's how our body fights infection/virus. The idea is to make someone comfortable but still know that the fever is serving a purpose. My son recently had a sustained fever of 104 to 105 with the flu. I was a little freaked out but the three doctors I talked to that week (one on phone, one we saw when he tested positive for flu and the one I talked to on the phone about my other son who then got sick and needed Tamiflu) all said the exact same thing.
