Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar m tn A woman was in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of days prior to her giving me oral sex. Am assuming they put her on meds. with her being on meds what is the possibility she was still contagious, which she never told me she had it. For a couple of days My urine flow was frequent, like peeing thru a straw and small white discharge. I have none of those symptoms now but am still concerned.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with pneumonia today and I've been getting radiation for my left breast for cancer for the last three weeks. First, did the radiation weaken my lungs to make me getting pneumonia easier? Secondly should I continue with the radiation while taking antibiotics or wait until I'm over the medicine or just the 48 hours that the doctor said I would be contagious?
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn i had the same thing back in june.. they thought i had pneumonia..ibut didnt..but it isnt contagious..the cough is part of the bron..
Avatar f tn I'm sick but I don't know if Its something serious.iv been drinking tea and taking cough drops My mom has pneumonia But I don't know if I have it too or if I just have a cold. Is it safe to be sick while pregnant.
Avatar n tn Thanks, yllas. what did your doctor say - is it curable? is it contagious? I don't recall having pneumonia or whooping cough before. my brother had bronchopneumonia when he was 3 years. but he seems to be in perfect health, in fact his xray result last year was clear. I really worried that his might affect my pre employment. I already signed my probationary contract but unfavorable medical results may be grounds for them to revoke my contract.
Avatar n tn My 20 y.o..son has been dx with this. He has had several freezing treatments to remove them. He has seen a decrease in the formation of the bumps, but i am worried that he will have another "flare up" when he returns to college. he was very run down during the last semester (he had pneumonia) and i wonder how much that had to do with him getting this disease. I understand that this is considered an STD, but can also be gotten through other means (sharing towels etc,)...
Avatar n tn It depends how treatment goes. From what I learned about this protozoa, it can be very difficult to treat, and even when a treatment appears to have done its job, it is possible for the dog to have relapses. About breeding from her, I am unsure. As Leishmaniasis can be very stressful for the kidneys, and possibly other organs too, pregnancy may put added strain on her. I would definitely ask your vet's advice about this.
Avatar n tn a month later she was in the hospital with pneumonia, blood in urine, and overall weakness and confusion. On day 3 of hospital stay, the results came back from a sputum sample pin poinint MRSA. We were required to enter her room with gloves, mask, and gown on any visits. At times a dr would come in, listen to her lungs, without any of the precautions taken. If this is so infectious, then why do some have to "suit up" and other's don't.
Avatar f tn Other things like strep throat is contagious. Strep and staph are two contagious bacterias. Hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn yes being always cold is the real indication to have a chronic infection. Yes it is passed from person to person as it is contagious. The pneumonia I have is NOT through a tick bite. Mycoplasma can be transmitted by insects but also not necessarily.
Avatar n tn My four year old Mimi has been in hospital for a week with pneumonia, the xrays that have been taken do not show any improvement although her temperature is now back to normal, she has had iv antibiotics and oral antibiotics, and is now home. Because she had pneumonina when she was two in her right lung, this time its in her upper left lung they have tested her for other things and we have to go back in six weeks for a check up and more blood tests and xrays.
242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.
Avatar m tn t cancer and their main concern was TB, This was ruled out as contagious after 3 negative samples of sputum came back and I was let out of hospital with suspected pneumonia which I was given 2 types of antibiotics clarithromycin & co-amoxiclav and scheduled for a Bronchoscopy the following two weeks.
1609219 tn?1298104935 I am very sensitive to smoke, and that can trigure a sinus infection-but can that really turn into walking pneumonia? Is it possible It has never totally left my system? Any help would do. Thank you.
Avatar f tn he contracted it in the hospital last month with a bout with pneumonia. we went to a rehab for about 3 weeks and was only diagnosed about the last week he was there and was sent home. (he is elderly (93) with Dementia) I understand that c-diff is contagious however i call my self being very careful. i have started having diarriah (very little) no dizzyness, no fever, no chills, no cramps ect.Should i get tested?
Avatar f tn This bug is called Group B Streptococcus and often also lives in the vaginal area - prior to childbirth a high vaginal swab may be done by your obstetrician and if you are GBS positive, you will be given antibiotics to treat this because THEN the baby is in danger of contracting GBS pneumonia (a very nasty potentially lifethreatening problem) which the baby can catch during a vaginal delivery if the mother is GBS positive (on high vaginal swab). I hope this helps. It is a very good question.
Avatar m tn He was diagnosed with pneumonia. I would definitely call a Dr. or go to an urgent care or the emergency room. Some pneumonias are viral and some are bacterial and some can be contagious. Do any of your friends or family have the same problem as you? They can culture your sputum and tell if it is viral or bacterial- you need to know before you take any medicine because antibiotics only work on bacteria, not viruses.
Avatar f tn Sounds like you need to have further testing with PCR for your Lyme confirmation. I hope you are seeing a lyme literate doctor or ( LLMD) who can direct you to a good PCR test. I believe the PCR test is called IgeneX. But regarding the Chlamydia pneumoniae part of the question. What kind of test did you have done for the C. pneumo? Was this recently? You can be a carrier of C. pneumo and still be able to transmit the organism and not have symptoms.
Avatar f tn As many of you know I was diagnosed with pneumonia after my second treatment. Dr said I am now at a stage 3, due to all of the hurry up and wait that has been going on with my immune system. The pneumonia is just about cleared up, but now have pleurisy (ouch) The gyn/onc is recommending IP chemo. What is this and are the side effects atrocious. Would this help to keep from developing these off the wall infections?
601046 tn?1331885156 The authors hypothesized that transplacental and breastmilk anti-HCV antibodies play a role in immunological protection against vertical transmission of HCV, and therefore recommended that breastfeeding of HCV-RNA positive milk be stopped when infant serum anti-HCV antibody turns negative." "Additional HCV-RNA testing is recommended during the breastfeeding period. The optimal timing and frequency of repeat testing during gestation and lactation is not known.
