Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia contagious to newborns

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Good morning I'm being treated for pneumonia just started antibiotics last nite feeling a lol worse off but my question is walking pneumonia contagious......it's funny but ct images showed fluid on right lung and I have side pain ouchee! But now more symptoms are appearing.
Avatar n tn It would depend on what type of pneumonia you have. You might want to call your clinic to ask them. There are too many kinds of pneumonia for anyone to answer simply. Besides, after having pneumonia and there being a flu epidemic out there, would you really want to expose your weakened body to that?
Avatar f tn Novembermommy is correct. Pneumonia isn't really contagious, its the cold/virus that can lead to pneumonia which is contagious. Also if he's been on antibiotics for 24hrs he's not considered contagious anymore anyway.
Avatar f tn they just want me to continue with it I guess. Also, does walking pneumonia have to do with breathing problems since I no longer have that cough? The cough lasted a week and now it's gone, which is kind of strange.
Avatar m tn A woman was in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of days prior to her giving me oral sex. Am assuming they put her on meds. with her being on meds what is the possibility she was still contagious, which she never told me she had it. For a couple of days My urine flow was frequent, like peeing thru a straw and small white discharge. I have none of those symptoms now but am still concerned.
Avatar f tn i had the same thing back in june.. they thought i had pneumonia..ibut didnt..but it isnt contagious..the cough is part of the bron..
Avatar f tn It's not safe to be sick while pregnant. Your temperature should not exceed 102.5 or so for the health of your baby. If your mom or anyone close to you is sick it is highly advised you stay away from them till symptoms subside. My brother in law lives with us and has bad allergies and though they aren't contagious I enforce him taking his meds like crazy! You should definitely go to a doctor to be safe. Better safe than sorry.
Avatar m tn t know his outcome due to the fact he has seemed to vanish. so I guess my question would have to be what types of infections would cause pneumonia bacterial and viral or are there certain fungal infections that can cause this.
Avatar f tn Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs. Apart from microorganisms, pneumonia can also be caused by any injury or damage to the lungs, caused by the exposure to certain chemicals and radiation.
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn that they take antibiotics for is due to a primary virus that gave them the secondary infection. So, a cold --- that IS contagious that caused 'gunk' to get thick in sinuses, bronchial tubes or lungs and then that festered into an infection that you need antibiotics to treat. The initial virus is contagious and for how long varies. Usually a week, I'd say.
Avatar f tn In a word - don't. It can be dangerous for your baby since it often makes them poop in utero (meconium aspiration can land newborns in NICU for several days or longer with pneumonia). Drink lots of water and do lots of walking if you're trying to get labor started. Have sex. Stimulate your nipples. Take a hot shower, bounce on a birthing ball, do squats. Don't take castor oil.
Avatar f tn Are you talking about hep b? Personally I believe it's crazy to vaccinate newborns for hep b when the mother doesn't have it. It's an std. Its not contagious!
Avatar n tn I was asked to report to the clinic this afternoon and to my surprise, they told me to undergo my chest xray again. They found scars on my lungs and that the repeat exam is needed to find out for sure if the scars are infectious or not. I have not had any history of TB or any lung or pulmonary disorder in the past. I am already 40 years old and this is not the first time I took an xray test. there were no such findings in my past results, so why now? I am really disturbed.
Avatar n tn My 20 y.o..son has been dx with this. He has had several freezing treatments to remove them. He has seen a decrease in the formation of the bumps, but i am worried that he will have another "flare up" when he returns to college. he was very run down during the last semester (he had pneumonia) and i wonder how much that had to do with him getting this disease. I understand that this is considered an STD, but can also be gotten through other means (sharing towels etc,)...
Avatar n tn MRSA is very contagious. It can be passed by person to person through touch I believe. http://www.themrsavirus.com/mrsa-transmission.
Avatar f tn Other things like strep throat is contagious. Strep and staph are two contagious bacterias. Hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn yes being always cold is the real indication to have a chronic infection. Yes it is passed from person to person as it is contagious. The pneumonia I have is NOT through a tick bite. Mycoplasma can be transmitted by insects but also not necessarily.

242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar n tn Because she had pneumonina when she was two in her right lung, this time its in her upper left lung they have tested her for other things and we have to go back in six weeks for a check up and more blood tests and xrays. We are due to fly to cyprus for two weeks on the 11th of june, one docter said we shouldnt fly and two have said she can, i will hapilly cancel the trip but think it may do her the world of good. Any advice please, are there any risks to her health if i take her?
Avatar f tn Can I pass the herpes virus to others such as my other grandchildren, pregnant women in my family, or newborns in my family. I am afraid to visit my newborn great neice or go to another neices baby shower for fear of passing it on. I have been with the baby when she was born and am afraid also of passing it to me other grandchildren etc etc. Could I have contracted the herpes from just being around her?
Avatar n tn while it maybe a tradition in india you would be hard pressed to find anyone from a medical/pediatrican/breastfeeding position that would reccomend this or advise it, nope, no-way
Avatar f tn I plan on changing them in what will be their room. I don't have much room in our room & won't be putting the light on to disturb hubby too much. I think it's important for the baby to get used to their room too. + it's not far to baby's room from ours.
Avatar f tn I heard they had a recall on those so I decided not to get one
Avatar f tn I had my son on the 5th and he sleeps about 6 hours at night now. But he needs to be either swaddled or wrapped in his favorite blanket. We also need to hold him until be falls asleep or he will scream bloody murder until we pick him up. What I do to calm my little one is I lay down on the couch and put him on top of me with his head on my chest, and rub his back. He's out within minutes.
