pneumonia

Avatar n tn Would carinii pneumonia present itself with just a minor cough and congestion and no fever, no rash or other symptoms. In other words is this type of pneumonia something that is more severe? I have not had an exposure to someone with HIV, but I have allowed myself to receive oral sex on occasion from guys that I did not know their HIV status.
Avatar f tn People who are healthy do not get PCP. There body has the ability to fight off the pneumonia.
Avatar m tn i know you cant get from french kissing but worried about Pneumocystis jiroveci Pneumonia. i went to the doctor last week and they said i had pneumonia they put in the hospital for 4 days on antibotics. i got out and two later i went back and they gave me different antibotics and still feeling a little bad. i got worried and start to read that hiv person get pneumocystic jiroveci pneumonia and if this could be want wrong with me.i just have chest pain back pain and breathing problem. no fever.
Avatar m tn I knew I was HIV+ two years ago when I was diagnosed with Pneumocystis Carinii (in that moment I had 25 CD4s). I have 1.5 years with antiretroviral drugs and I have now 150 CD4s. My question is the next: besides my treatment i am taking a multivitamin (Centrum... 1 capsule per day). But I still not see a great improvement in my health... so can I double the dosis (2 capsule per day) without this cause me any problem? Or there is any medication I can take to get better faster I am doing now.
Avatar m tn He was diagnosed with HIV, and Pneumocystis pneumonia having caught both diseases while on the job. I did some research on PCP and see that mainly AIDS patients have this disease. Both of my parents died of HIV after I was first born. My dad caught HIV through blood transfusion before blood was tested, he first had leukemia. I was told that I did not have HIV or AIDS and had nothing to worry about. I even did an anonymous at home HIV test last year as I was curious.
Avatar n tn Pneumonia with HIV is called Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP or pneumocystis) which you would have to have a CD4 count below 200 which I doubt you have. Why worry about it when you can go test get your result in 20 minutes and be done with it?
Avatar m tn Primary Care Physican. Not to be confused with Pneumocystis carinii Pneumonia an OI with people that have CD4 count below 200.
Avatar m tn (AIDS), but a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibody test was negative. He was treated for possible Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, and his symptoms resolved in the ensuing two weeks. Three months later, he tested positive for HIV-1 antibody on enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the finding was confirmed by a Western blot test. He progressed to AIDS and died within 10 years.
Avatar n tn Almost everybody with OHL is obviously ill with numerous symptoms and most have had other obvious opportunistic diseases, like pneumocystis pneumonia, Kaposi sarcoma, etc. Most self-diagnosed OHL is something else. Coated tongue is normal in everybody from time to time, or can occur with various minor viral infections and probably even variations in diet. And even if you have real OHL, it is not something that necessarily means HIV. There are other causes.
Avatar n tn Hi! I am sorry to hear that you have been going through so much. Basically you have a granulomatous disease. So all causes that result in formation of granulomas need to be ruled out. These include histoplasmosis (what you were diagnosed with first), tuberculosis, leprosy, schistosomiasis, cryptococcosis, cat-scratch disease, sarcoidosis, crohn's disease, Pneumocystis pneumonia, aspiration pneumonia, rheumatoid arthritis, and granuloma annulare.
2121656 tn?1395674749 t researched Bactrim but I know it is routinely used post liver transplant as a prophylaxis against Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. I therefore doubt that Bactrim is likely the culprit and especially since you say you've taken it previously without incident. Your course of Doxycycline was so brief that I wouldn't think it would have a significant effect on your liver enzymes. Perhaps the enzyme elevation was not related to those 2 drugs.
Avatar n tn This week I have again been extensively investigated in the hospital with biopsies and endoscopies and diagnosed with leukoplakia on my tongue and what much worse is PCP (Pneumocystis pneumonia) which causes my swallowing problems and chest pain. My doctors said that the leukoplakia I have on my tongue is resembling oral hairly leukoplakia and PCP almost always occur with HIV positive persons.
Avatar n tn As I said, walking pneumonia has nothing to do with HIV. PCP (pneumocystis) is not walking pneumonia and your CD4 count would have to be under 200 for it to even be a risk of contracting it.
Avatar m tn I take Dapsone as a prophylaxis for Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia which is thought to be a risk to liver transplant patients. Bactrim can also be used but I had a mild allergic reaction to Bactrim early post transplant so I was switched to Dapsone. My understanding is that many, if not most, transplant centers discontinue these drugs months after transplant. Mine believes in prophylaxis for life but I am seriously considering discontinuing the Dapsone.
Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....
Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
Avatar n tn He does not want to be reassessed and so we have had him moved to a nursing facility for medical management. Before all of this started he was living in an assited living home. I guess my question is: What else can we expect to fail in his body from the heart and also the kidney's?
Avatar n tn Am not a doctor, but this sounds like pneumonia. I use to work in a nursing home and seen people with this problem..u need the hospital...please go straight away...
Avatar m tn All I ever did was above with high risk people. I have had cough chills and it all points to Pneumocystis pneumonia according to google which is hiv related. Am I still safe?
Avatar m tn My husband has a G-tube for all food, meds, hydration resulting from radiation to tongue years ago. His major problem is aspiration pneumonia since the valve to his airway(s) does not close and is in open position constantly. Reflux of food and gases causes repeated pneumonia episodes, the latest resulting in more than 2 months in 4 hospitals and extreme loss of weight. He is facing jejunostomy in the very near future. We are told that later, fundoplication may be great help to him.
Avatar f tn My family and I are at a loss. My dad had his aortic valve replaced (elective/scheduled) on 12/15/22. The Dr. said he lost a lot of blood and they had trouble controlling his blood pressure during the surgery. He was never extubated after the surgery, never followed commands. They did a CT scan 4 days later, that's when it was discovered he had a stroke. Later that week he had a trach and g-tube put in.
