I know I have to come off Plavix 10 days prior and about 5 days after. Really wondering what damage could be done in 15 days of coming off Plavix if any? All my stents were drug eluding stents.
Avatar m tn I was having usual symptoms of hypothyroidism - fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, hair loss, etc. Have been on Levothyroxine for several months now and have seen improvements in all symptoms except hair loss. I'm also on Plavix (due to a TIA), which I understand can also cause hair loss. I started on it shortly before beginning to exhibit thyroid symptons. I've had breast cancer, so can't take estrogen.

Avatar f tn old mom had been on plavix for about 2 months when she began having severe diahreea, nausea and loss of appetite. Avatar m tn Now I have gray discoloration beginning at my hairline on the sides, covering the tops of my ears, and moving in one large discoloration down toward my face. In the eighties, I had an intestinal bypass for weight loss. Due to complications, I have had to have blocked portions of my colon removed twice, along with hernia repair at seperate times. I was told I should have a blood test routinely to detect any liver damage. I did not do this, and seemed fine.

I take Plavix as a blood thinner, BP and diuretic meds, Ezetrol for cholesterol (I couldn't tolerate statins). I'm sorry this is so long but I have been sick so long and never able to get out what I want to say when I'm in front of a doctor.
Avatar m tn In this one year I have had what I think is severe hair loss and change in texture and my nails are now showing problems. It is systemic and could be caused by the Plavix. Of course, heart health trumps hair loss. I keep my cholesterol levels at a decent level with atorvastatin and my blood sugar levels at pre diabetic levels with metphormin. Bottom line, I want to have peace about stopping the plavix.

Avatar f tn I had two coated stents inserted March 22, 2010 and have been taking plavix, 81 mg aspirin and continue taking coumadin (5mg 6 days and 6 mgs 1 day a week). I have my blood tested for IN/PTR regularly. Since taking Plavix and aspirin I have severe bruising. I try to be careful but bruise just brushing against a doorway, for example. My dog was sitting on my lap and when he jumped off to the floor the pressure of lifting off caused bruising on both legs.
3974127 tn?1411346003 They asked me if my father had been taking aspirin, I told them no, he was on Plavix, and no one instructed him/me about taking aspirin. The doctors cleared the blockage and replaced the stents... but my dad never woke up. After 2 weeks on life support, his body gave up the fight. Is this an inherent risk with stents? I'm still banging my head on the wall wondering if I did something wrong, or if I had known about the aspirin, would he still be here today.

Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.

1210142 tn?1266077031 I think plavix is very important for CAD sufferers. The half life of plavix is short anyway, so if it came to some emergency, it wouldn't take long for the effect to wear off.
Avatar n tn Has the Cardiologist explained the reason for this? Perhaps they have stented a blockage and hope he will develop collateral vessels to compensate for other blockages elsewhere? The Cardiologist who did the angiogram should know the reasons. It could be that the stents started to block a few weeks after being installed, which is not as uncommon as some people like to believe. His LDL is very low indeed, but LDL will not be an influence on forming scar tissue in the stents.
Avatar m tn I also take the statin drugs after a successful stent. Now I learn that plavix may also cause memory loss. I went off the antidepressants cold turkey for the last 6 mo but cannot go off the plavix. I am losing cognitive abilities and I am a practicing surgeon still. How can I effectively test the capabilities and get a solution. I cannot retire at this time.
