Plavix vs lovenox

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix vs lovenox

plavix

Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.
Avatar m tn The other night I was given 50 mg Lopressor, plavix, and lovenox, as I thought and the hospital thought I was having a cardiac event. I already take 25 mg atenolol. I wasn't having event, but non-specific chest pain. That was Monday night. Now I wake up with my heart racing and blood pressure rising. I also wake up exhausted. I think this is from coming off of the Lopressor. I called my MD and they said just go back to regular dose of atenolol.
Avatar n tn 1) Have you ever heard of lovenox injections to prevent further clots in stents and 2) what are the risks from lovenox to her relatively healthy kidneys (after 30+ yrs of diabetes)? Thank you for your good advice. You were the only Dr. who said E.R.
Avatar f tn I don't know about "normal," but if the regimen of warfarin and Plavix is working for you, then great. Your goal is to find something that works. Have you been tested for clotting disorders? Your story makes me wonder about that, especially if the stroke happened to be due to a clot.
Avatar m tn Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.
Avatar n tn there are alot of variables when it comes to medications vs. alcohol vs. a variety of diseases.....a simple call to the doc should clear it up for you because its always better to be safer than sorry......
Avatar n tn Its likely you can do heparin while you consider a transition to another med. Lovenox is another blood thinner. Both need close monitoring just like coumadin. Not sure what side effects he is having? Lovenox is a general blood level that needs to be achieved and is injected 12hrly and is pre packaged so no drawing up to do.
Avatar m tn The recommended treatment for DES implants is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix up to a year. Combining plavix and aspirin increases the risk of bleeding vs. aspirin alone in patients treated for more than a brief period of time. That is the regimen followed for my DES implant. f you are in this category a prior MI and unstable angina:" In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI.
Avatar n tn It seems plavix helps reduce the risk for clots at implant site, and after a year the risk of clots is less than the risk of excessive bleeding with plavix. After a year discontinued plavix and remain on a baby aspirin. Several months ago after some dental work there was excessive bleeding for hours on a baby aspirin...so I'm not cool with large doses of anti-platelet meds. Warfarin can cause very serious (possibly fatal) bleeding.
Avatar f tn Could Plavix and asprin be used together to help with stroke prevention or is Plavix just as dangerous and Xeralto and Pradaxa?
255163 tn?1376869746 If so, did you ever have surgery where you had to stop the plavix for 7days. If your completly off the plavix, when were you able to stop it after the coated stents were put in?
Avatar n tn Hi there. Went today for my 31 week appt and my ob had mentioned that we switch from lovenox to heparin at about 36 weeks. I'm on lovenox for factor 5 with history of a blood clot. She also then recommended induction at 39 weeks.... the heparin would be a good idea if an epidural was needed/wanted but it's more cost and twice a day rather than once. I'm really focused on a natural delivery but understand that plans can change suddenly.
Avatar f tn t take Lovenox. I use one called Arixtra, when I need it. Both Lovenox and Arixtra are shots that you give yourself at home. Arixtra is a once-a-day injection; I'm not sure if Lovenox is given once a day or twice a day. A doctor or nurse can show you how to give yourself the shots. The injection will make a blue spot under your skin that looks like a bruise, but it is not painful.
315318 tn?1353251800 Well, plavix is coming off patent next year so the cost should come down substantially. In my case though, I got a DES placed in my LAD in December 2009. My cardio said, I am not responsive to Plavix, but not to worry. Start taking this new related medication called Effient. Effient, however, comes with greater chance of bleeding and it is expensive.
Avatar m tn Five days prior to biopsy was taken off plavix + aspirin and placed on lovenox. I was released Tuesday morning, the 24th and late that evening had first BM post-op which resulted in massive rectal bleeding. Over next 2 days had 4 more massive bleeding episodes until punctured(during biopsy) artery was sutured on Nov 26 at 6pm. No bleeding since. Released from hosp yesterday(12/4).
Avatar n tn There have been many successful interventions without plavix. I think your doctor to suggest a bypass to avoid plavix is off the chart. With a (DES) stent there is dual therapy recommended for up to a year. This helps a very small percentage (less than 2%) who may have restenosis (another blockage with blood clot).
Avatar n tn t be done due to severe rotator cuff tear that cannot be repaired because it would mean coming of Plavix. Heart vs shoulder - heart wins!
Avatar f tn Is there any correlation of becoming extremely ill on the first day of or day before onset of the menstrual cycle to Hughs Syndrome or Multiple Sclerosis? My daughter had a blood clot in her brain 4 years ago which was reversed by Lovenox and Heparin; this was just hours prior to her cycle beginning. She has since been diagnosed with MS, even though her labs clearly reflected antiphospholipin syndrome.
1524811 tn?1333241301 I was recently diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism after being rushed into L&D unable to breathe. I was prescribed Lovenox by injection twice daily. The prescribing DR knows I'm now 34 weeks pregnant, but when I read the drug disclosure inside the box it states clearly NOT TO BE USED DURING PREGNANCY, CAN CAUSE GASPING SYNDROME & FETAL DEATH.
Avatar f tn Some of these medications should be uptitrated by his cardiologist to allow for the maximum dose as he tolerates them (namely, Ramipril and Metoprolol). His Plavix should continue for either several months up to 1-2 years depending on the type of stent he received at the time of his percutaneous coronary intervention (bare metal stent vs. drug-eluting). As with most medications, daily compliance with all of these is imperative for maintaining healthy cardiovascular fitness.
653618 tn?1260603643 I am getting ready to start my 2nd chemo with doxil and a trial drug and still do not have a port. I've done 4 carbo/taxol treatments and have not had any problem with my veins but have heard (from the clinical trial nurses) that doxil is more caustic and that a port really would be best. Also, if I do get the new drug, I will be receiving it 3 times a week weeks 1 and 3 as well. Meanwhile, my doctor says, we can place the port later...
