It is my understanding that “ST elevation” in STEMI refers to a specific pattern on the ECG that is sometimes seen in patients with completely blocked arteries and having an MI as well with NSTEM segment that indicate an MI but not as severe and less occlusion...both are abnormal EKG tracings.

The whole idea of plavix is to make platelets less active and a patient is now generally on this medication for a number of years. My first stent in 2007 required plavix for 1 year. My new stents in Sept 09 require plavix for 2-3 years minimum. They seem to now believe the longer you are on plavix the better, to prevent clogging of stents. I have had a total of 8 stents put in my heart, 6 in the RCA and 2 in the Obtuse marginal. My last stent was in 2014. My cardiologist would not let my dentist allow me to stop taking Plavix for even 5 days to alleviate my pain due to a cavity .The dentist is bent upon my discontinuing Plavix to enable filling of the cavity or do root canal to solve the problem.
