plavix

Avatar f tn His conclusion was that I needed one blood thinner, and the best for stents is obviously the plavix and so that one was chosen. After stopping the aspirin things settled down a lot.
Avatar n tn Plavix is a blood thinner and I didn't know it affected pressure? Anyway, dental cleaning can produce a tiny amount of gum bleeding and will not produce any problems. I have my teeth cleaned every 6 months and it soon stops bleeding. The problems come if you need a tooth removed. Flycaster is correct, your dentists should always have a list of current medication.
Avatar n tn I have heard that there is some problem mixing vitamin K with a blood thinner. I am taking 75 mg of plavix and cannot find anything about the vitamin K interaction. I need additional calcium, and the brand I am looking at taking would give me 40mcg of vitamin K. Is this safe or a problem? Where can I find how much vitamin K is in a serving of broccoli or spinich?
Avatar n tn There are newer blood thinners that can be given in pill form without the need for an injectable blood thinner. These include rivaroxaban (Xarelto) and apixaban (Eliquis). You can discuss with your doctor.

Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
Avatar f tn As for the fluid it may be fluid collected due to injury rather than infection. It sort of sounds like it got blood in the top probably due to your blood thinner. Having had two blood clots myself , I always worry about that when someone gets a fall. Do you have a fever or any open wound from it? I would worry about bacteria getting in there and causing infection when you fell. I would probably ice it for the first few days. But if you can see the doctor I would have them take a look.
Avatar n tn Make sure that he also takes all medications prescribed and even the do not tell him when he leaves the hospital make sure that even if they put him on a blood thinner such as Plavix that he also takes a 81mg Aspirin a day. They did not tell us this when we left the hospital but we later found that out and it does seem to help.
Avatar f tn I had to have a major surgery for a bowel obstruction while taking another blood thinner (Plavix) and they were prepared for and dealt with that problem. If I were you, I'd pump the doctor for more information. You have very valid concerns. Keep us informed.
Avatar f tn I agree with you...my dad was taken off plavix due to a bad bladder infections which caused some bleeding. He was taken off and withing a month and a half had a min-Tia-stroke-episode. He's back on it...Thank God he's doing better.
1013028 tn?1250923267 Coumadin or warfarin is an effective blood thinner that prevens the production of clotting factors in the liver. Anti-platelet drugs like Aspirin or Plavix do not play much of a role in preventing venous clots. However, in persons with the lupus anticoagulant, the risk of recurrence of both arterial and venous thrombotic episodes is very high. Some patients may need to be on long-term oral anticoagulation. Some may need to be on anticoagulation for the whole life.
Avatar n tn That’s Plavix, a blood thinner to reduce clots and strokes. He hasn’t had a stroke, so breathe easy.
Avatar f tn I am not sure if her physician would be agreeable to try a simple 81 mg baby aspirin with her. Plavix is another blood thinner that is prescribed also.
Avatar m tn I was having usual symptoms of hypothyroidism - fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, hair loss, etc. Have been on Levothyroxine for several months now and have seen improvements in all symptoms except hair loss. I'm also on Plavix (due to a TIA), which I understand can also cause hair loss. I started on it shortly before beginning to exhibit thyroid symptons. I've had breast cancer, so can't take estrogen.
Avatar f tn Make sure not to take Vitamin K when on blood thinners. Vitamin K acts as a blood thinner and is found in some calcium chewables with the Vitamin D.
Avatar f tn also plavix is a blood thinner so you dont get clots forming in your stents which i dont believe fish oil thins the blood so i would keep with the plavix.
Avatar m tn After mt heart valve surgery. I had HIT. Another blood thinner was used it was very expensive but I cany temember the name.
Avatar f tn Also, the doctors decided that I should definitely go on a blood thinner. So their choice is Plavix over Coumadin or the other blood thinners. Why do you think this is a better choice than say Coumadin?
Avatar n tn My last DES was in May, 2005. I have 4 Cyphers and one Taxus. The Taxus stent is the problem stent and needed angioplasty ballooning, twice now.(2006 and 2008) It was the General Cardio in a group here that ordered the Event Monitoring that linked to the DX of Atrial flutters. It was she (Cardio M.D.) that told me to get off the Plavix and take 150mg x 2 a day of Pradaxa. I asked about the lower dose and was told that the lower dose is ONLY for those in renal failure. Calling Pradaxa Mfg.
Avatar n tn My husband is on Plavix ( Clopidogrel ) for last 4 months but did NOT have any side effect of mouth ulcer or any kind of stimatitis. He is on this medication since it's required as a blood thinner after angioplasty/stent procedure. He gets bruising easily but that is expected. To me, Plavix is not the reason of your symptoms but your doctor can certainly guide you.
Avatar n tn Plavix works much like a blood thinner to keep blood cells from sticking together and forming additional clots. The Metoprolol and Ramipril are both used to control your blood pressure by slowing down your heart rate and keeping your heart from being "over worked". These can be difficult to get used to and can cause fatigue, dizziness and a feeling of being disconnected.
Avatar n tn Since Plavix is a blood thinner, of course any surgeon would like for you to be off it and it out of your system completely before performing any kind of surgery, including something as minor as having your teeth cleaned. I don't know enough obout thrombosis to answer that part of your question, but I do understand a doctor/surgeon wanting you off the Plavix. Have you asked the neurosurgeon about your history of thrombosis and what happened when you stopped taking Plavix in the past?
214864 tn?1229715239 I would appreciate so much any information that anyone has about why Plavix should be stopped before minor surgery. I have read where wafarin (a blood thinner) should only be stopped 3 days, prior to GB surgery. Plavix is only an anti-platelet drug like aspirin. In no way can I tolerate aspirin due to prior years of abuse.
Avatar m tn It is still possible to have something else going on...sorry, I cannot remember if u were tested for tethered cord, syrinx or ehlers-danlos... Below r side effects of plavix What side effects may occur? Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue using Plavix.
Avatar m tn However, this is related directly to benefits affecting stents, because both plavix and aspirin will continue to reduce clotting times in your blood as long as you take them. I am on plavix for life and not aspirin, because aspirin gave me too many gastric issues. I have also recently read that aspirin is based on a drug which has found to increase pain in patients with fibromyalgia. That's definitely something I don't want to end up with.
Avatar f tn So it is also called blood thinner. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. This medication can cause bleeding if its effect on your blood clotting proteins is too much (unusually high PT and INR results).
