Avatar m tn ) In the UK, Aspirin / Plavix is normally 75mg each daily. Plavix is given minimum 2-3 years now and in many cases has been decided it's best for life, depending on the patient. I have no idea what the circumstances are that decide 'life' but I have a couple of friends who have been told they will never be off the drug. I've been told I will be reviewed in 2 years. Maybe it's a cardiologist decision rather than a country guideline?

Avatar m tn Lately, there have many posts related to the duration of plavix and it seems patients are given plavix for a long period of time. It has been my understanding from what I have read and my experience, plavix is recommended for individuals that have a drug eluding stent to help prevent clots for up to a year. Avatar m tn Plavix is more potent but also has more side effects than aspirin (bruizing, gastrointestinal bleeding, stomach ulcers, etc). There have been a lot of tests about the safety of Plavix for prolonged periods. The outcomes were not always so positive for Plavix, so I would be glad to stop taking it when my doctor told me so.
