Thanks for your replies -- I called the doctor yesterday and let his nurse know I was having chest pains. She says to keep taking isosorbide, a long-acting nitro, which is why I didn't take nitro for the chest pain, for one thing the pain didn't feel too strong, but mostly because I knew I already had nitro in me and didn't want to make a big headache. Does that make any sense? Maybe I should try it anyway, to see if it does indicate blockage.
My husband has a pacemaker and 8 metal stents. He's been taking Coumadin and Plavix for the past 4-5 years since his last stent was put in. Recently he was rushed to the hospital with blood in his vomit and stools. They said he had last 60% of his blood and immediately preceeded to give him blood, total 9 pints. After much reading up on ulcers and his medicine's side-effects, we discovered that Plavix causes ulcers. He was bleeding from a huge ulcer in his stomach.
Since that time, I have had problems with chest pain and stomach pain, along with a host of other pains. I had a second cath to look at my heart because of the chest pain and the heart was said to be fine. Having a hard time sleeping at night and anxiety is building because of the pain. Anyone else have these issues? Also, is there a blood test that can be given to see if the Plavix even works for my gene make-up?
Three mos ago I was found to be severely anemic and ended up in hospital for transfusions. A gastro dr did endoscope and determined I have severe bleeding stomach ulcers. I do not have any pain or other symptoms. Negative for h pylori bacteria. Been taking carafate 4 x day and taking protonix.
I had vertical sleeve surgery five years ago and have been taking vitamins and history of TIAs so was on plavix. I don’t drink or use NSAIDS so what could cause this?

old mom had been on plavix for about 2 months when she began having severe diahreea, nausea and loss of appetite. Is it possible for this to be a side effect of plavix even though she has been on the med for 2 months with no problem? She often has difficulty tolerating medications. She was diagnosed with a bacterial infection but after 2 rounds of antibiotic the symptoms return after abouit 2-3 days of feeling better. .
After that length of time it is generally believed to discontinue plavix but remain on aspirin. Although plavix and aspirin are anti-platelet agents, plavix has a different mechanism of action that seems to be specialized for drug eluding stent to prevent restenosis.
Laviquin is an antibiotic medication! and there is a class-action suit against Laviqiin providers that is currently unresolved.
You need the heart medication and Plavix and it would be risking to stop the Plavix. Lipitor is good for studies have shown that it has helped reduce cholesterol buildup in the arteries. The studies showed that 40mg was just as good as 80mg and that 80mg did not help reduce the cholesterol buildup any more than the 40mg. One question I have, is the nitro patch. Are you having chest pains? Nitro is not good for your liver.
The usual protocol for the drug eluding stents is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix for a year. The reason for plavix is that DES has a tendency to clot when compared to bare metal stents, and less a problem for restenosis (overgrowth of tissue within the lumen). After a year medical consensus is to discontinue plavix as there is less risk for clots, but continue with aspirin for a lifetime.
There may be some individuals that have a higher risk for clots so plavix may continued indefinitely.

Is his doctor aware of the history of a bleeding ulcer that your post mentions? Has the ulcer completely healed? I certainly would make sure the doctor is aware of this. I know in my case, when taking the Plavix I couldn't drink. I love to drink wine and while on the Plavix one glass would go straight to my head. I felt drunk. And, yes,the bruising is terrible. I walk around with purple marks on my arms all the time.
Please note that the article mention plavix as used as "prevention of stroke" here we are speaking of Plavix to avoid restenosis and clots in the case that you have medical stents implanted. The situation is quite different.
She is asymptomatic. She wants to go off plavix to have torn meniscus repair and gyn sugery for stress incontinence. Docs been saying "no" for last six months. My dad pressed them to due repeat stress test to see if she is" OK" , because he wants her to get knee done.{She's in pain}. Stress test was good. Wouldn't a CRP/hs-CRP give us a look at where she really stands?
Did the 75mm Plavix plus two baby aspirin daily for 18 mos cause this and is it dangerous? The plavix was prescribed because I had a drug eluding stent ( 3 of them) placed in my LAD which was 90 % occluded. Can I reduce my plavix to half one or two days and drop the aspirin to see if the spots go away and no more start?

With aspirin there can be bleeding within the stomach, and as it passes through the system there would not be any bright red coloration that you seem to indicate.
Contact your doctor. Plavix and aspirin is not recommended by AHA/ACC more than a year after a stent implant to avoid the possibility of blood clots. You probably should have been off plavix a year or so ago. I quite plavix after a year subsequent to a stent implant. Did not require weaning off, etc.
i have had abdominal bloating ( almost feels swollen) for the last few weeks. had some lower abdominal pain. constipation which got resolveds with a stool softener, lots of fluids, and prayer. had constipation for well over a week. woke up this morning with pressure and pain in right shoulder blade and when i tried to take a deeper breath, it hurt in the upper right abdomin. have had lots of belching and some gas. saw a doctor last friday and was checked for vaginal ultrasound monday.
I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant.
Suggestions please?
