Plavix and blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix and blood pressure

plavix

Avatar n tn I have read so often that you should not take Plavix and aspirin, but it seems to also be common to prescribe both plavix and aspirin in certain situations. I am worried and confused. Thanks.
Avatar f tn But, I still ended up in the ER after the first year of walking and required a stent. It was then that I started on blood pressure meds and the aspirin and Plavix, etc. It was by choice that I stopped taking the Plavix. I know the doctors would prefer that I continue with this, but I don't care for the side effects. I felt great until last summer when I wasn't able to walk. There was a heat wave in this part of Texas and I couldn't tolerate the intense heat.
Avatar n tn Plavix is a blood thinner and I didn't know it affected pressure? Anyway, dental cleaning can produce a tiny amount of gum bleeding and will not produce any problems. I have my teeth cleaned every 6 months and it soon stops bleeding. The problems come if you need a tooth removed. Flycaster is correct, your dentists should always have a list of current medication.
976897 tn?1379167602 m on no beta blockers or blood pressure meds at the moment. They decided to look at my blood pressure because of the recent loss of my wife. I saw my Cardiologist last week and my BP then was 155/101 and he said he wasn't concerned and it was likely the recent stress causing it. He said he would leave it a few months. I still haven't heard anything from my Doctor about the results. I used to take Ramipril ace inhibitors back from 2007-2009.
Avatar f tn my mother was asked to stop taking plavix by her cardiologist and since then has had severe headaches and increased blood pressure. She is already taking 2 blood pressure medications to control blood pressure, micardis and nifedipine xl. Do you think her increased bp is due to her coming off of plavix? She does have a pace maker and stints.
Avatar n tn Is the change in the heart rate and blood pressure a sign of worsening heart disease? Does it indicate any time frame we are dealing with? He also has cardiac cachexia and has lost 50lbs in 8 months. He now weighs about 110 lbs, depending on fluid levels. And he has COPD too. Also he has had 6 blood transfusions in the past 5 months due to his red blood cell count which is currently around 9 but drops pretty quickly to 7. Thanks for any information or advice.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist performed a special blood test and found that although Plavix thinned my blood, it was not an effective medication for my body chemistry. There are many others. You may want to have your cardiologist speak directly to your gasteroenterologist. If he won't listen or work with you, it is time to find another. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Heart discomforts can be in the back or in the front of the chest, so I would take the safe option and have him checked out. How is his blood pressure? If they run tests and find nothing, ask for a 24hr or 48hr holter monitor. It's always the way when you go to hospital, nothing happens so nothing is detected.
Avatar n tn Since Plavix is a blood thinner, of course any surgeon would like for you to be off it and it out of your system completely before performing any kind of surgery, including something as minor as having your teeth cleaned. I don't know enough obout thrombosis to answer that part of your question, but I do understand a doctor/surgeon wanting you off the Plavix. Have you asked the neurosurgeon about your history of thrombosis and what happened when you stopped taking Plavix in the past?
Avatar m tn t they both do the same thing by lowering blood pressure and opening up the coronary arteries? She is also tiny in height (5 ft) and I'm concerned that both are too much for her. She's already complained about the losartan saying that within an hour after taking it, she couldn't keep her eyes open or do anything much but sleep. Thanks in advance!
1210142 tn?1266077031 One year after my bypass surgery, I was feeling wonderful, exercising at age 72 with weights and cardio, and insisted I quit Plavix. Within six months, my bypass veins failed because of blood clots, and I went into CHF in a New York Minute. I stayed on 325 aspirin, but was tired of the bruising and other inconveniences of Plavix. It was a huge mistake.
Avatar m tn In getting ready for sius surgery in 2008 I was taken off my aspirin for 8 days and the day before the surgery had the second stroke. My cardiologist put me on Plavix plus the two aspirin and had me take 4 plavix the first day I got them. Now I take one Plavix a day plus the two aspirin. After a bout with Pneumonia and Bronchitis and being in the hospital twice I was sent to a Pulmonary Dr.
Avatar f tn I had two coated stents inserted March 22, 2010 and have been taking plavix, 81 mg aspirin and continue taking coumadin (5mg 6 days and 6 mgs 1 day a week). I have my blood tested for IN/PTR regularly. Since taking Plavix and aspirin I have severe bruising. I try to be careful but bruise just brushing against a doorway, for example. My dog was sitting on my lap and when he jumped off to the floor the pressure of lifting off caused bruising on both legs.
329994 tn?1301663248 No, my cardio doctor did not take the blood pressure in my legs. He did an ultrasound of my ankles and the area at my groin and leg. I don't know what pedal or popliteal mean? Since my post, I have seen my cardio doc again and he did some tests on me and wants me to see a neurologist for possible spinal stenosis. I am in the works for arranging that right now. My cholesterol hasn't been tested for almost a year, it was 211. I get tested again in June and am hoping it is down.
475570 tn?1280941363 I battle this also. Had a quintuple in 07 at age 49. BP is puzzling at times. I eat very heart healthy, low sodium, and take Metoprolol. It does not go as high as yours, but sometimes hits 150/93, or around 135/88 - which is always alarming to me. Two things I have noticed that keep it in a good range (120/80) are regular exercise and low alcohol intake. I have a tendency at time to watch a Friday evening movie with a few glasses of wine - the next day my BP is always up.
Avatar f tn Sine this procedure he’s been put on plavix, 81mg aspirin, and 2 different types of blood pressure meds and he’s never had any problems with his blood pressure. Niw he’s bleeding from his ear. Wat is he to do. Has always been very active and now is completely exhausted all the time.
Avatar f tn I've seen urologist..
Avatar m tn Just so you know, on the maximal amount of Coreg and Lisinopril that your heart rate and blood pressure can handle, the heart muscle can get stronger and we can see the EF improve!!! I think you may have 15 years left to your heart but you need to be very careful and take all of your medications (never stop plavix again with all of the stents you have) as prescribed and continue exercising at least 30 min 3-4x per week.
Avatar f tn So in addition aspirin (inhibits platelets) there is Plavix that reduces the risk of blood clots, and the usual therapy is to take Plavix for a year (after a year less risk for clots) and aspirin therapy is continued indifinitely to inhibit platelet formation. To prevent this, patients have to take two different anti-platelet agents. So, aspirin inhibits platelets, it's a fairly mild drug, and there's another drug we use routinely called Plavixl.
Avatar f tn Sometimes aspirin is used in place of the Plavix, and the patient will be on aspirin and warfarin. That type of combo regimen is used when the doctor doesn't think that one drug alone is enough to do the job, and one drug obviously wasn't enough in your case. It seems that your Plavix and warfarin regimen is working, so I'll join you in giving thanks for that.
Avatar f tn Nattokinase enhances our body’s natural ability to fight blood clots, and has an advantage over blood thinners because it has a prolonged effect without side effects.
Avatar n tn How many different blood pressure medicines have you tried? Sometimes it just takes a matter of trying a few different ones to see which one will work. If your heart beat is irregular this would increase the risk of stroke.
Avatar n tn You need the heart medication and Plavix and it would be risking to stop the Plavix. Lipitor is good for studies have shown that it has helped reduce cholesterol buildup in the arteries. The studies showed that 40mg was just as good as 80mg and that 80mg did not help reduce the cholesterol buildup any more than the 40mg. One question I have, is the nitro patch. Are you having chest pains? Nitro is not good for your liver.
Avatar f tn She was given platelet went up then down again Can plavix make it worse and will her platelet revert back to normal
Avatar n tn I have heard that there is some problem mixing vitamin K with a blood thinner. I am taking 75 mg of plavix and cannot find anything about the vitamin K interaction. I need additional calcium, and the brand I am looking at taking would give me 40mcg of vitamin K. Is this safe or a problem? Where can I find how much vitamin K is in a serving of broccoli or spinich?
Avatar n tn could lack of adequate blood flow to the heart muscle cause angina without blockage? I have a heart that races a lot, the doctor has talked about putting a def. in for the racing, some time I've has passed out, but always come back to. is this because there not a lot of blood getting to the heart. I've had a cath done and it's shows there no blockages, I do take plavix and nitro and blood pressure pills, if I have no blockage, why i'm I taking plavix?
Avatar m tn The recommended treatment for DES implants is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix up to a year. Combining plavix and aspirin increases the risk of bleeding vs. aspirin alone in patients treated for more than a brief period of time. That is the regimen followed for my DES implant. f you are in this category a prior MI and unstable angina:" In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI.
Avatar n tn My husband has a pacemaker and 8 metal stents. He's been taking Coumadin and Plavix for the past 4-5 years since his last stent was put in. Recently he was rushed to the hospital with blood in his vomit and stools. They said he had last 60% of his blood and immediately preceeded to give him blood, total 9 pints. After much reading up on ulcers and his medicine's side-effects, we discovered that Plavix causes ulcers. He was bleeding from a huge ulcer in his stomach.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I would check and keep note of your blood pressure and heart rate frequently (and not if you are having any of the symptoms) using a home blood pressure monitoring kit that you can get at your local pharmacy. With that information, you can work with your physician to find a regimen that will make you feel better.
