Avatar m tn Thank You very much for your reply, As I mentioned above, she was given new medicined once she experienced high blood sugar level few weeks back. She was given Metformin (850 mg) and Pioglitazone (30Mg per day). Once she started experiencing low blood sugar level, the doctor stopped giving Pioglitazone and asked to continue Metformin with few other medicines and the my mother was told that she experiencing such low levels of sugar due to Pioglitazone.
806995 tn?1265823176 agreed that the '08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize.
Avatar f tn t work within 3 months they are putting me on metformin as well as clomid.. what does the metformin actually do?
Avatar f tn For women who are unresponsive to clomiphene, the oral hypoglycemic agents like metformin could be of little help, or pioglitazone, may bring resumption of regular cycles and ovulation. These agents reduce the hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenemia in PCOS. These are actually medically prescribed medicines for PCOS.As this syndrome is very common in women the case is often individualised and treatment option will be processed and prescribed.Fell free to talk to your Doc.
Avatar m tn I am obese (300lbs), diabetic (type 2) and require medication to control hypetension. I take the following medications – Metformin, Pioglitazone, Victoza (liraglutide), Amlodipine, Ramipril, Bendroflumethiazide, Asprin and Statin. I have a strange and embareasin problem. I hope someone out there may be able to offer some insight. I have always had sensitive nipples but in the last few days sensitivity in my left nipple has gone crazy.
Avatar n tn HI, It sounds like your wife will definitely need an additional medication--if not restarting the Pioglitazone, then an alternative. There are lots of different diabetes medications available that will help. Those glucose levels are indeed too high and should be addressed soon. Please ask your wife to contact her doctor as soon as possible(I suggest within the next 2 days a most) and discuss being started on another medication to bring her levels down.
Avatar f tn Evangelin posted about this youtube video. "Sugar , the bitter truth" It is a long video , but what I did not know before watching it is that High Fructose Corn Syrup metabolically is as bad as alcohol for the liver. The majority of processed foods we find in the supermarket have High Fructose Corn Syrup which can majorly effect obesity and fatty liver.
Avatar f tn PCOS can make it really hard to lose weight. Metformin does help with that. Have you talked with your dr. about your concerns with Metformin and your cardiac concerns?
Avatar n tn Meanwhile, he and his colleagues are investigating the biological mechanisms by which vitamin E or pioglitazone might reverse fatty liver disease. Cusi’s research group is testing pioglitazone against fatty liver in Hispanics, who seem prone to the disease, and in people with diabetes." http://tinyurl.
Avatar f tn Metformin, Synthroid, Lisinopril, Effexor, Zocor, Singulair. Was diagnosed with diabetes and hypothyroidism Oct 07. Prior to diagnosis of diabetes/hypothyroidism I lost my sense of smell and taste. Currently have been without smell and taste for 11 months. ENT can't find any abnormalities; best guess is that is is damage to nerve caused by several bouts with sinusitis. Question now is this: is this loss also associated with diabetes? AND - why am I now having phantosmia?
Avatar n tn Metformin has demonstrated efficacy for type II DM, and there are other oral meds that can be combined with it if metformin by itself isn’t enough. Pioglitazone and Glipizide are routinely prescribed in conjunction with metformin for DM II management.
1242273 tn?1269552203 The first year metforim helped my numbers and now I am on metformin 2X500mg twice a day and then added two 5mg twice a day of PMS-glyburide and now two weeks ago added APO-pioglitazone 45mg once a day. I watch what I eat cook from diabetic cook books try to get exercise which can be very painful due to fibromyalgia, but my numbers arent dropping. I'm mostly all the time running in the mid 20's.
1124023 tn?1261539248 I would probably then give you some progesterone to start your period, and with that period would start Femara plus Metformin. These medications are the ones that I personally like to start with for myh PCOS patients. You can try naturally, and probably will succeed eventually, but it will sure help to speed up the process if you go to see your Ob/gyn and get some medications to help you ovulate more regularly. Good luck!
Avatar n tn hi im a plus plus size woman ttc for 1 year now with no results was dx with PCOS in nov. since than my OB has put me on met i have managed to lose some weight almost 30 lbs im now 330lbs..still losing i went to see an RE last month and he had me start on clomid i just finished taking my last pill on thursday and now waiting to see if i am going to ovulate i guess my question is do i have a pretty good chance to ovulate and get preg.? is my weight the issue? do overweight woman have healthy preg.
4067667 tn?1349533022 yes clomid 100 mg plus metformin 1500mg per day may work with success rate 20% per cycle . i hope you to be pregnant soon . PCOS is a simple disorder but need close monitore to check dose versus response .
Avatar n tn It’s possible that Metformin isn’t the right medication for you. There quite a few other medications you can try. I’ve read about Berberine, but wouldn’t use it unless the doctor okays it. From what I’ve read, Berberine is supposed to work the same/similar way as Metformin, so if Metformin isn’t working, it’s likely Berberine wouldn’t work either. You should talk to your doctor and ask for a different medication that might work better.
1907238 tn?1340711313 hi as anyone heard of getting pregnant using concieve plus my nurse as told me to use it.
Avatar f tn Studies have shown that up to 80% will benefit from such treatment. Many who failed to ovulate with letrozole or metformin therapy will respond when rechallenged with these medications after ovarian drilling. Interestingly, women in these studies who are smokers, rarely responded to the drilling procedure. Side effects are rare, but may result in adhesion formation or ovarian failure if the procedure is performed by an inexperienced surgeon.
