fear

Avatar f tn You are both suffering from a very common phobia. Fear of the dark goes back to the dawn of man and since that time, millions of people have fought it all there lives. Please do not berate yourselves for this phobia or think you are silly for being afraid of the dark at your age. Our phobias are ours to own and suffer with as long as we do nothing about them. Since both of you have stated that your phobia is now interfering with your lives, it's time to take the bull by the horns!
Avatar f tn Oh. I read the title of the post. Maybe I saw the word phobia and then used it as essentially that was what the poster was implying. Sorry as nothing was intentionally posted to disagree. My eye sight is way too bad to use my phone for this. I have to enlarge and basically should probably wait until I am at my PC to be more 'PC'. Again just wanted to help the poster but didn't"t mean to step on toes.
Avatar n tn m the same way. i get really anxious about talking to family on the phone unless they are really close family. if i don't recognize the number...i don't answer. i generally avoid calling people at all costs. the odd thing is that i'm not "bad" at being on the phone and i'm not really anxious when i'm on it. i don't know what causes it...but you aren't the only one.
Avatar n tn My main objective is to give you some insight into your chronic phobia of the dark. The fear of the dark is a very valid phobia to begin with and could branch into many other more specific phobias, such as nyctophobia, the fear of the darkness and the main one I wish to talk to you about now. Nyctophobia is any fear of darkness and it does not have to be chronic. It is usually caused by a magnification of the brain's natural perception of what could happen in a dark environment.
Avatar m tn I was given Seroquel which induces sleep. It is the only way I can fall sleep. The fear of not falling sleep is so huge that I go into a panic attack. I hope you have found a solution for your phobia. If not, you may want to try Seroquel. Ask your doctor. Good luck.
424549 tn?1308515502 I have the same fear or phobia of spiders. I can go completly out of my mind at just the sight of one, be it small or ehhhhhhhh. I can't even talk about it. Anyway, I was told that I would have to let one walk up my arm and feel there leg's on my skin. RIGHT.. I think I'll carry this fear to my grave.

Avatar f tn Yes! I have had years of imagined illnesses. I was obsessed with HIV for years. The mind is more powerful than the body.
Avatar f tn Exactly, I have an extreme phobia for HIV. At the same time, I cannot even resist myself from having sex. But I never have penetrative sex only handjob and insertive oral. Thanks for your answer.
Avatar f tn I am scared of possible HIV infection although i did not see any blood on the phone cover other than very little amount that came out of my hand. Also now its March 6 and I am experiencing some sore throat type symptoms.. I am very worried and dont know what to do . Please advise.

I try to restrain the cough till end of short conversation, but then it ends up a harsh hacking coughs. I have tried nasal drip spray. I am trying SinusWars pill but not much help. Avatar m tn My wife is arguing in court that half an hour is too much time to spend talking to my children on the phone as it is not natural for a 6 and 8 year old to spend o much time on the phone. Does anyone know of any studies that have been done in relation to this, is it damaging to spend so much time on the phone to my children?
Avatar f tn I have had OCD since I can remember. I now have developed a phobia of needles. I work in a health care setting (hospital) where shots are given daily. Although I am not the one giving the shots, I still feel fear everyday that I will come across a needle and accidently get poked by it and get an infectious disease of some sort. I have tried talking to my family and friends about this phobia amongst other mental health issues but they don't seem to understand.
Avatar f tn Fear of heights in all its forms is, I believe, the 2d most common phobia (the first is fear of speaking in public, officially, but I'm guessing more people confront heights than the need to speak in public so I'm guessing heights might be the most common fear). I have this phobia, but didn't have it until I got a full-blown anxiety disorder. If this is your only phobia, good; if you have several and are anxious about a lot of things, harder.
Avatar m tn I have a phobia which is the fear of being trapped. It doesn't matter if the situation I'm trapped in poses no threat, is not unpleasant in any way, or even if it's a good thing that I can't escape from that given situation--just knowing the fact that I'm trapped and can't escape causes me panic and depression. In this case, I feel trapped by the air around me. I'm trapped in the sense that the air is all around me and no matter where I go, I cannot escape from it.
1222635 tn?1366396286 It is absolutely terrifying to the point I have had to leave my home because I was positive that something was going to happen or have to get out of the car and sit on the side of the road until it passes. I need help!
Avatar f tn I think I have a phobia of the dark but dont know how to classify it? Not sure if it's OCD related or other. My problem started really affecting my life maybe 2 years ago and has gotten progressively worse to the point I can't be in the dark alone at all, not even for a minute or I'lll become incredibly anxious. This is managable by turning the lights on, but my other problem is driving in the dark.
Avatar f tn How can I get over a phobia. I have a very weird phobia, i always have the fear of some bug or creature flying in my ear. I never wear my hair up outside and I try to have my hair down inside too if i can. Even when i am sleeping i hate to have my ears not covered. What should i do?
Avatar f tn Desensitization may be what's called for here. Next time there's some light snow but roads are otherwise dry, get in the car and go for a drive -- and not just around the block. Note that you are able to safely get around despite the snow. Then, do it again when there's a little bit of snow on the ground, and notice that you are able to maintain control of the vehicle and get around safely despite the snow, Continue doing this and work up to driving in poor conditions.

17213106 tn?1456525991 DGL is just a form of common licorice, with the part taken out responsible for most of the side effects commonly reported from licorice (mostly high blood pressure). Mastic gum is just a gum resin, like so many others used to thicken foods and chew on. But if I were feeling better without taking anything, I probably wouldn't take anything. But that's another issue. Finding h.
Avatar f tn Great advice from Vianca. Drinking can turn into self-medicating with alcohol and that opens up a whole new can of worms! She also makes a good point regarding the "fear" of doing something is often much worse that doing what you're so afraid to do! Thus the old saying..."we have nothing to fear, but fear itself." Good luck and keep us posted!
