Avatar f tn During those times I had not yet been diagnosed and was able to go back to life like normal, however after the diagnosis and being on phenytoin and switching to oxcarbazepine i am feeling awful. Avatar f tn The neurologist prescribed it after he had TIA number of times. He used to get seizures like symptoms and loose his consciousness. He was bedridden and stopped walking completely. Now, he is up on his feet and doing his regular work after regular physiotherapy. At first, he had trigeminal neuralgia and he was on carbamezapine 150mg twice daily and then 300mg twice daily. Avatar n tn Thank you for your question, you are relatively fine with Phenytoin and the seizure episodes in a form of lack of speech are the residue of a generalized type seizure. Avatar m tn Hello AB, welcome to the medhelp forum. Phenytoin can cause certain side effects like dizziness and mental confusion. Some people may also manifest incoordinate movements. Weight gain is not a documented side effect. It could be related to your alcohol consumption or wrong dietary habits and lack of exercise. An occasional one or two drink may be fine but moderate or large amount can cause significant increases in blood levels of phenytoin due to induction of hepatic enzymes.
Avatar m tn All, been on dil for 33 years since I was 15 and seizure free but I do have random motor nerve twitching and bit my tongue in the nite occasionally... Recently was put on Ciprofloxacin for male issues and cr@p hit the fan about 20 days into to the 30 day use. Until I know otherwise this med nearly doubled my serum level from my normal "3.5" to 8 and 9. That was a wake up call to come here and read.
Avatar f tn I know someone may say that water and lack of activity may be the cause, but they have never ever been before. Does anyone think that withdrawal from that much Biotin could be the cause of my anxiety because there is no other link between the anxiety I had three years ago and what is happening now?
Avatar f tn Then, I went back on my Lyme Disease and Babesia (co-infection of Lyme) treatment (Chinese herbs), and they are worse than ever! I am hoping that this is just a bacteria die-off, which is common with Lyme, and your symptoms get worse before they get better. Do you think I should increase my Toprol dose? I am seriously going crazy with all these PVC's!
Avatar n tn Acute alcohol consumption increases the availability of phenytoin (Dilantin) and the risk of drug-related side effects. Chronic drinking may decrease phenytoin availability, significantly reducing the patient's protection against epileptic seizures, even during a period of abstinence. Any form of alcohol, even beer is contraindicated for some time when you are weaned off dilantin. Sexual activity is an exertional activity which can cause exertional or sexual headache.
Avatar n tn Starting last year my wife started showing symptoms that were diagnosed as 'ideopathic neuropathy'. (I know that is short for "pain of unknown origin"). Avatar f tn My boyfriend is on day 6 of taking no pain killers. He has been on it for years after a shoulder surgery. He has all the symptoms of withdrawal that I have read about. He hasn't told the doctor that he is addicted. Out of all the withdrawal symptoms the sleepless nights is what he can't handle. So he asked for sleeping pills. I first thought it was good idea because all of this is foreign to me but now I think it's a bad idea.
