Weight gain is not a documented side effect. It could be related to your alcohol consumption or wrong dietary habits and lack of exercise. An occasional one or two drink may be fine but moderate or large amount can cause significant increases in blood levels of phenytoin due to induction of hepatic enzymes.

Avatar f tn During those times I had not yet been diagnosed and was able to go back to life like normal, however after the diagnosis and being on phenytoin and switching to oxcarbazepine i am feeling awful. Dizzy, nauseated, moody, extremely tired, severe headaches that come and go. All i get from my Neurologist is these are side effects that will eventually go away. Because i never know when these symptoms will come on too strong I have missed a lot of days at work during my probation period.
Avatar f tn Dear Jayashree, Phenytoin is used to prevent seizures.It can be continued for long term.Decision regarding continuation of phenytoin depends on MRI finding,initial indication for which it was started and seizure frequency.Consult the neurologist who has started this,he can decide wether to contiue or to stop it.
Avatar f tn its like he is crying in pain but went for physical last week and his pediatrician said after the exam it night be his medication or perhaps something happened to his brain during his last seizure. i was tempted to bring him to the er several times. do you suggest he go for an eeg or mri or cat scan? his last mri was in september 2007 after a grand mal. thank you for any information u may be able to give.
Avatar f tn I am going to ask my Dr to increase my T4 meds to 137 mcg to bring my TSH down , as I am having some symptoms of hypo : fatique, irritability, constipation etc. I know that it would be possible to add T3 to my meds, but I would rather try to fix the conversion problem if I can. Does anyone have info, or experience with this situation. Thank you.

Avatar f tn A few weeks ago I woke up with yellow crust on the corner of my lips and it went away in 2 days, and today I woke up and it's in the exact same spot again except a little more then before. It doesn't hurt or itch, it feels like my lips are very very dry. I don't smoke, I have grandmal seizures and my medication is phenytoin and kepra but I didn't read anywhere that would be a side effect so I'm worried this could be a STD or something.

The original poster had a thyroid ablation, so she has no choice but to be on replacement for life. By far, most thyroid disease is autoimmune, Graves' or Hashi's.

Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I'm new to this community. My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.

Avatar f tn ve missed the opportunity to operate but that I should just continue to be treated for conversion disorder in case it is that and not my spine (I have continued with the treatment although I think it's a waste of time because I'm quite frankly not improving and getting nowhere). So should I fight to get another opinion in case it is CES and then attempt to get the conversion disorder diagnosis overturned or should I accept that it definitely is conversion disorder.

Don't want to go hypo, and don't want to be hyper. I have been on Synthroid due to RAI for years and have had every bad side effect their is. The Endo's always made my dose to high and went just by the numbers. That kicked me into heart arrythmias, diah, tremors for years.
