Avatar m tn Hi there, i had a brain injury in feb and havent had any seizures yet but i was told in order to get back to driving/work etc i might have to take an anti-seizure medication. What medications are there? And i was told by someone else that they will slow down my recovery. because they are stimulants? in what way would they slow it down?
561706 tn?1333947274 A friend of mine gets this, more common when he's stressed out. They think it is a misreading in the brain perhaps due to a head injury years ago. He has some visual exercises to do to try and retrain his brain. I'm not sure they're working all that well. It's great they've ruled out the worst case scenarios for you.

Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with epilepsy after 4 sycopal episodes two of which cause head and face injuries. During those times I had not yet been diagnosed and was able to go back to life like normal, however after the diagnosis and being on phenytoin and switching to oxcarbazepine i am feeling awful. Dizzy, nauseated, moody, extremely tired, severe headaches that come and go. All i get from my Neurologist is these are side effects that will eventually go away.
Avatar n tn Erythema multiforme is a type of hypersensitivity reaction that occurs in response to medications, infections, or illness. Medications associated with erythema multiforme include sulfonamides, penicillins, barbiturates, and phenytoin. Associated infections include herpes simplex and mycoplasma infections. The exact cause is unknown. The disorder is believed to involve damage to the blood vessels of the skin with subsequent damage to skin tissues. Are there other signs or symptoms present?
Avatar f tn Folic acid supplementation in folate-deficient patients with epilepsy changes the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, usually leading to lower serum phenytoin concentrations and possible seizure breakthrough..." It however says that initiation of Folic acid and phenytoin together is beneficial. Since you can't go back and start all over again, you can take a small dose. It has been observed that as los as 1mg dose can perturb phenytoin’s levels, You may take doses lower than 1mg/day.
Avatar f tn My dad who is 81 years old in India is on Citilin 500mg daily. The neurologist prescribed it after he had TIA number of times. He used to get seizures like symptoms and loose his consciousness. He was bedridden and stopped walking completely. Now, he is up on his feet and doing his regular work after regular physiotherapy. At first, he had trigeminal neuralgia and he was on carbamezapine 150mg twice daily and then 300mg twice daily. I just need to know how long he has to be on Citilin.
Avatar n tn Combining fluoxetine or paroxetine with phenytoin can also lead to increased phenytoin side effects and reduce blood levels of paroxetine. You really need to discuss the potential drug interactions with your own doctor.
Avatar f tn He is very sensitive to noise, and he was told to go to an ear, nose and throat doctor. They set up special sessions in a chair and in moving him in it, diagnosed the problem and worked to manipulate some little bones in the middle ear which helped quite a bit. He also carries nondrowsy Dramamine around in case he needs it. He also refers to it as a vagal nerve response. 2) I wonder if you have access to a practitioner of the Tibetan healing touch in your area.
Avatar m tn My son was in an accident in June of 08 and had bleeding his his brain in several places. He was not expected to live and he stayed in a coma for 7 days. When he did come to he was doing the same thing your sister is doing. He was drawing his arms up and throwing his legs and arms around. If she is throwing her arms and legs then I believe that she is trying to come out of her coma. Our bodies seem to react to brain injury by causing comas. This may be its way of healing.
Avatar m tn Is it possible that I may internally bleeding in my head. One of my relatives had an internally bleeding in her head not too long ago after she fell down , hence I am feeling scared. Almost 2 hours has passed since I fell down and still I donot feel any such discomfiture other than a blunt headache which lasts for 2/3 minutes. Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn Then everyday after that I felt that same sharp pain in the same spot in my head for about 4 months after that night when I put the pressure on my temple and felt the sharp pain on top of my head...since I had other symptoms that would be indicative of either extreme anxiety or nerve damage...
Avatar f tn She just fell and hit her head on the driveway. She had stitches on the side of her head and had blood on her brain. The cat scan showed no sign of brain damage. She has been stabalized and has left ICU. While she was in ICU she recognized family members and spoke short sentences. Since leaving ICU she now does not speak and had a high fever which they say is contributed by a bladder infection. The doctor says her lack of speech and confusion is from the infection.
Avatar n tn My 18 year old daughter hit her head twice in three weeks. She spent the past 3 nights in the hospital. They have no clue what the issue is. These are her symptons: headache that won't go away with perks, nausa, and she in numb on the left side of her body. They did a cat scan and they said it was normal. The first time she hit her head they did a mri and they said that was normal. We are at a lost and not sure what to do.
Avatar f tn I do not have a headache and the site where I was hit in the head is not bruised or swollen. It is more than 24 hours since my injury. Should I still go to the emergency room? If you are a doctor and say I should go, I will. I don't even meet the medical criteria for a catscan, do I?
Avatar m tn When I was at school a boy in our class got hit hard in the forehead with a bat and he had a huge conky on his forehead , It went away in time. Have you seen a doctor?
Avatar n tn He cannot concentrate whatsoever, and when he saw a neurologist the neurologist asked him if he could remember some words and he could not a few minutes later. My husband already has a TBI from being in Iraq, and now this. What warning or emergency signs should I watch for. Is this all normal after a head injury? He was in bed for 5 days after the attack sleeping mostly.
Avatar f tn Nausea, vomiting, excess sleep, severe headache, difficulty in walking and balance, tremors, seizures, vision problems, ringing in ears etc are all signs of head injury. You need to get this investigated immediately. Please go to the ER and get a complete neurological examination along with MRI of head and neck region. Take care!

1676453 tn?1304369181 in july of last summer i sustained a head injury from a jet ski accident that resulted in bell's palsy phenomenon,i had an MRI and CatScan and after 2 months of shock therapy im almost completely better except that my face twitches in my sleep and some pain on that side of my face... I recently hit my head again (1 month ago) on that same side and i can feel a distinct dent where i hit it... and the bells palsy pain seems a lot more noticeable now...
Avatar m tn It depends on the extent of the injury. At times the nerve is in shock and comes out of it slowly. However, if nerve fibers are damaged, then recovery is not possible. Still, discuss this with a neurologist who can examine you. Take care!
Avatar n tn Last night around 11 pm, out of nowhere while relaxing, I began to feel warmth all over my body, starting in my head and began to sweat (even though it was cold) and felt as if I was going to faint. I also felt shaky. I dialed 9-11 in panic, an ambulance came but my mother wouldn't let me go. They looked in my eyes again, normal, and took my blood pressure and it was 138/78 and my pulse was 84. This was after taking two Beta Blocker pills.
