405614 tn?1329144114 The L2-3 level demonstrates extravasation of the contrast material from the disk along the length of the anterior aspect of the disk suggestive of a large annular tear. No significant disk bulge, canal stenosis, or neural foraminal narrowing is identified at this level. The L3-4 level also demonstrates diffuse extravasation of the contrast material from the anterior and right lateral aspects of the disk suggestive of tear.
Avatar m tn It is distressing to experience so much pain with no headways to the cause coming. I understand that a thrombophlebitis of the arm vein following extravasation of one of the various irritant intravenous drugs given at the time of surgery could be a cause. This could have caused some damage to the ulnar and median nerves I nthe vicinity due to extravasation.
Avatar f tn The term could be referring to an active arterial extravasation/ haemorrhage. You might want to check this with your doctor. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn You have described a well-known complication known as extravasation of contrast media (iodinated contrast for CT or gadolinium for MRI, the latter in your case), which means some or all of the contrast which was supposed to be injected into your veins leaked out into the surrounding soft tissues. Patients typically experience localized pain, swelling, itching, and/or redness.

Avatar m tn In a small study, phenytoin-induced seizures occurred most often in patients with serum phenytoin concentrations of 50 mcg/ml or higher.[393] Peripheral neuropathy, usually occurring weeks to months after drug initiation, has also been reported in patients receiving phenytoin. A single case report describes the onset of neuropathy within a few hours of drug administration.[9780] Adverse GI effects of phenytoin therapy include nausea/vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, and anorexia.
Avatar f tn Folic acid supplementation in folate-deficient patients with epilepsy changes the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, usually leading to lower serum phenytoin concentrations and possible seizure breakthrough..." It however says that initiation of Folic acid and phenytoin together is beneficial. Since you can't go back and start all over again, you can take a small dose. It has been observed that as los as 1mg dose can perturb phenytoin’s levels, You may take doses lower than 1mg/day.

Avatar n tn Moban® brand of molindone hydrochloride contains calcium ions which interfere with the absorption of phenytoin. Ingestion times of phenytoin and antacid preparations containing calcium should be staggered in patients with low serum phenytoin levels to prevent absorption problems”. Taken from http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/phenyt_od.htm Our population is divided into 4 type of metabolizers ranging from rapid to slow metabolizers depending upon the speed of elimination of drug from body.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your question, you are relatively fine with Phenytoin and the seizure episodes in a form of lack of speech are the residue of a generalized type seizure. I don’t have a full description of your consciousness during the lack of speech episodes to decide whether this start is a partial epilepsy which can continue in a generalized or it is a generalized one from the first moment..
Avatar m tn Hello AB, welcome to the medhelp forum. Phenytoin can cause certain side effects like dizziness and mental confusion. Some people may also manifest incoordinate movements. Weight gain is not a documented side effect. It could be related to your alcohol consumption or wrong dietary habits and lack of exercise. An occasional one or two drink may be fine but moderate or large amount can cause significant increases in blood levels of phenytoin due to induction of hepatic enzymes.
Avatar f tn Hi, The edema of the ankles commonly occurs in the elderly due to a poor functioning of the heart and hence there’s stasis of the blood around the lower extremities resulting in edema of the feet due to extravasation of the fluids from the blood. Due to the poor functioning of the heart, there’s poor blood supply to the brain also which can result in confusion in the elderly. Left ventricular systolic dysfunction means left heart failure. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted.
Avatar m tn Hello, Pigmented purpuric dermatosis is a chronic disease characterized by extravasation of erythrocytes in the skin with marked hemosiderin deposition. Unfortunately there is no cure for this disease except steroid creams which are available by prescription. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist. I would suggest a dermatologist’s for the same.
168348 tn?1379357075 PEI can be very effective in the treatment of larger cysts that have one significant pocket of fluid (in contrast to multiple, small pockets of fluid) -- The cyst is drained then approx half of that volume in 95% ethanol is injected back into the cyst. Risks include extravasation of the ethanol into the local tissues with possible damage to the nerve going to the vocal cords (usually temporary). There are a few of us who perform these on a regular basis, but it is still not widely available.

Avatar f tn A few weeks ago I woke up with yellow crust on the corner of my lips and it went away in 2 days, and today I woke up and it's in the exact same spot again except a little more then before. It doesn't hurt or itch, it feels like my lips are very very dry. Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I'm new to this community. My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.
