Common Questions and Answers about Pet allergies in infants

Avatar f tn As a matter of fact, there is a pet allergy specialist in Orange County. I used to bring my cat there (she had similar problems). I think they were in Tustin, but to be honest with you, it's been a long time and I can't remember the name of the place.... OK, I just googled it, and I'm 99% sure this is the place: Animal Dermatology Clinic 2965 Edinger Ave Tustin, CA 92780 (949) 936-0066 In the meantime, maybe you could try an oatmeal bath to help relieve some of the itching.
Avatar f tn Signs of toxicity and symptoms of withdrawal have been reported in infants following high doses or chronic maternal use close to term. Diphenhydramine has been evaluated for the treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum. It is generally not considered the antihistamine of choice for treating allergic rhinitis or nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Breast-Feeding Considerations Infants may be more sensitive to the effects of antihistamines.

Avatar n tn No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar n tn ( If your allergies do get worst and want to keep your pet and antihistamines don't fix it, shots may do it all by them selves. Kinda seems like a lot to get a pet. Personally I think if you have allergies to that pet you probably shouldn't get it. Consider a low allergy breed like hair dogs that won't shed. Also consider a smaller dog with short hair. One further thing to add. You may not be allergic to all dog breeds.
Avatar f tn I still use and wear the same materials as before this incident happened, so I was wondering if this is allergies and if someone can develop allergies later on in life to things they were never allergic too? I've also had cases where my exposed legs would become completely red and itchy (like a sunburnt) even though I've only walked outside for 15 minutes with my arms exposed too (but nothing happened to them.) This redness comes very rarely though..
Avatar m tn Allergy-induced asthma is the most common type of asthma in the United States. Some of the same things that trigger allergies — pollen, dust, pet dander — also can trigger asthma attacks. The most common asthma symptom is coughing, which is far less common in allergies. You need to see an allergy specialist to determine if you have asthma and what triggers your attacks. Allergies cause your immune system to respond to a substance abnormally. They can produce severe reactions.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was hoping to find out if it is normal to have stringy discharge in your eyes if you have allergies. I have had seasonal allergies since I was 9, I am now 43. The junk in my eye that I can pull out which is ewww and irritating, it's there when my allergies are bad, and even when I'm not dealing with allergies, it's just a lot more when my eyes are irritated, swollen, and hurting. What can be done for a remedy.
Avatar f tn Allergies are very frustrating. Dogs have allergic reactions to everything we are allergic to and more. Whenever possible, it is best to attempt to determine what the pet is reacting to. Providing your veterinarian with information concerning the age at which the problem began, the time of year it occurs what diets the pet has eaten and any supplements it has taken are all pieces to the allergy puzzle.
Avatar n tn I do have two dogs that sometimes lay on my sofas but this did not start until a few years ago and I have not had pet allergies before. Can allergies develop later in life? My concern is, if this is not allergies, what is it?
Avatar n tn t have it, I would have been broke. (Tell them I recommended you. I am Sandra Gasparini in NY. My pet was Julie, who passed on & now I have Miss Chanel.) Do NOT say your pet has any pre-existing condition. Your Vet should back u up. Keep in touch & good luck.
Avatar f tn I agree w/ Connie......The odor is yeast/fungus....Also, make sure his food is a high quality grain free...Yeast feeds on sugar...All the unnecessary grains/carbs in low quality pet food turns to sugar in the system & feeds the yeast.......Make sure you get the anti-fungal shampoo through your Vet (At least the first time!).....Then you will know what to purchase from now on........Let us know how he's doing....Karla P.S.
Avatar m tn If it does, then this could be another possible allergic trigger - and a very common one in dogs that have allergies to other things. I would tend to research this some more before giving it, just in case.
Avatar f tn We started feeding out cats a better food (not the stuff you buy in any grocery store or pet store) and since then they do not shed as much and so hubby's allergies are not as bad either. Good luck!
6333619 tn?1386598382 @EMT first off, no I am not one of those woman that have to have things their way. We live in an apartment and in less than a week the thing has eaten my plans, keeps me up at night, knocked stuff off the TOP of the fridge, broke picture frames on the TOP of my tall book case, eaten food from the counters...this thing is not my favorite pet. Like I said we live in a apartment and I don't want a litter box in my child's bathroom.
Avatar m tn This very well could be allergies, but are the symptoms bothersome enough to treat would be a good question. If your nose isn't running, eyes watery and itichy, congested, sore throat... It would probably be best to avoid medications and use some life style methods to start with 1) Sinus Rinses bottle (my absolute favorite allergy treatment). Washes the gunk right out of there.
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar m tn 1. Nutrition – This doesn’t include food allergies; but diets containing lower-quality nutrients are at the root of many an itchy pet. We know that good nutrition is the foundation of health, and the corollary is also true: cheap ingredients (such as corn and by-products) make for expensive vet bills. Unfortunately, even vets tend to be poorly educated on nutrition, and often recommend grocery store or “prescription”-type diets.
478429 tn?1265244387 Corticosteroids have been shown to be teratogenic in many species when given in doses equivalent to the human dose. Animal studies in which corticosteroids have been given to pregnant mice, rats, and rabbits have yielded an increased incidence of cleft palate in the offspring. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Corticosteroids should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Avatar f tn Actually, it's said to have baby near pets (obviously supervised) so they DONT get pet allergies...
Avatar m tn Immunotherapy is effective for allergies to stinging insects, a variety of pollens and dust mites, molds and pet dander, as well as for allergic asthma. However, it is not proven to be effective for hives or food allergies. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn After two months, if you still want pets, bring the pet into the house. Measure the change in your symptoms, and then decide if the change in your symptoms is worth keeping the pet. A frequent and very thorough cleaning of your house is important during this time because animal allergens are sticky and adhere to walls, clothing and other surfaces. Remove all pet items from your house, vacuum or wash all surfaces including walls, and remove or steam clean your carpets.
