179856 tn?1333547362 After 36 weeks of treatment, the cumulative proportion of patients who reached the primary safety endpoint was lower in the pravastatin group than in the placebo group (8% vs 13%; 95% confidence interval [CI], −11.6 to 1.6; P = .1379). In fact, the mean ALT values declined from baseline in the pravastatin group, whereas the mean ALT and AST were increased from baseline in the placebo group. None of the subjects in either treatment group had an elevation of total bilirubin >2 times the ULN.
780665 tn?1239026549 Group sessions are sometimes helpful, esp when moderated by a psychologist. Some Parks & Recreation Depts, the Y, hospitals, health depts, and churches sponsor group therapy session. They can be very effective, but your situation may be too specific to be applied to the group format. Your current prof can guide you in that. Your local cable or other tv or radio stations and newspaper are good sources of info re such groups, as are the sources I previously mentioned.
Avatar m tn The HBsAg clearance rate was significantly greater in the extended therapy group than in the standard therapy group at 24 and 48 weeks post-treatment (33.3% vs. 10.5% and 35.7% vs. 10.5%, respectively; P < 0.05 for both). In addition, patients with an increase of more than 1 log10 IU/ml in HBsAg level from baseline to week 24 had a significantly lower level of HBsAg at end of treatment (0.54 ± 1.76 vs. 2.89 ± 1.27, P < 0.001), but a higher level of HBsAg clearance (64.3% vs. 7.
Avatar m tn At the end of the 24-week follow-up, there were significant differences between the 48-week treatment group and the 72-week treatment group in patients with HBV DNA negativity (62.3% vs. 97.0%, x2 = 13.273, P = 0.000), HBeAg seroconversion (39.6% vs. 57.6%, x2 = 6.765, P = 0.009), HBsAg clearance (15.1% vs. 36.4%, x2 = 5.155, P = 0.023), and relapse (58.5% vs. 33.3%, x2 = 6.713, P = 0.010). Logistic regression analysis indicated that therapy duration was correlated to HBeAg clearance (OR = 3.
Avatar m tn Small numbers but RVR was higher in the twice-weekly group(23/43 vs 6/22 or 53% vs 27%) - twice as high. Difference persisted to SVR. The SVR in the twice weekly group was 72% vs 25%(the usual!) in the SOC group, with p=0.03. Twice weekly rx HALVED the relapse rate. Sebastiani looked at giving the total dose of PEG-IFN either once weekly or divided into two doses, ie 1.5mcg/kg/wk vs 0.75mcg/kg twice weekly; both got weight-based RBV.
1815939 tn?1377991799 Relapse was significantly higher in the 12-week group than in the 24-week group (5.9% vs 0.6%). Of the 12 patients in 12-week group who relapsed, 7 were genotype 1a null responders, he noted. High SVR12 rates were even achieved in patients with low platelet counts and low albumin levels. Of 17 patients who had virologic failure after 12 weeks of treatment, 15 were found to have at least 1 resistance-associated variant at the time of failure.
Avatar f tn Study Confirms Benefits of Vitamin E in Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis Megan Brooks May 4, 2010 — Supplementation with the natural form of vitamin E (800 IU/day) has beneficial effects in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), but pioglitazone's benefits are less clear, according to the latest findings from the Pioglitazone vs Vitamin E vs Placebo for the Treatment of Nondiabetic Patients with Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (PIVENS) trial, reported online April 28 in the New England
Avatar m tn According to results, treatment-emergent adverse events occurred in 76.5% of patients in the Dialive group and 80% of patients in the standard of care group, with no significant differences between groups (95% CI, 0.35-0.29). At least one serious adverse event occurred in 64.7% and 53.3% (95% CI, 0.29-0.51), respectively. Of the serious adverse events in the Dialive group, researchers considered 41.2% related to treatment.
Avatar n tn When does not she listen - when it comes to a particular activity (small group vs. large group vs. solitary.....). Just ask teacher to jot down times of the day and activities when she "does not obey". You are most likely to see a pattern.
Avatar f tn http://www.natap.org/2011/HCV/101111_02.htm This give cirrotics a 79% chance. Amazing how I can find so many different % for cirrhotics Clinical trials have shown that a telaprevir based regimen is more effective than standard treatment in all genotype-1 patient types, including those with advanced liver disease such as cirrhosis. The addition of telaprevir cleared the virus in almost twice as many previously untreated patients (79% vs. 46%, p<0.
148588 tn?1465778809 Among patients treated with lead-in boceprevir and standard-dose ribavirin, approximately 50% received erythropoietin to maintain normal hemoglobin levels vs only 26% in the control group. Although only 15% of patients received erythropoietin in the boceprevir plus peginterferon and low-dose ribavirin arm, the SVR rate was much lower at 36%. Erythropoietin therapy was associated with lower treatment discontinuation rates.
Avatar m tn Here is the article I was referring to. I hadn't remembered that it addresses nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and not simple fatty liver so it may not be as applicable as I thought. Nevertheless I will post it.
Avatar m tn Interestingly, ALT declined significantly in patients with supplementation (66 ±74 U/l vs. 49 ±41 U/L, P=0.01), but also in patients of group 2 (67 ±80 U/l vs. 49 ±49 U/L; P=0.03) but patients without vitamin D deficiency and without supplementation showed no change (P>0.05).
Avatar m tn Results -- More patients in group A than group B achieved an SVR (110/160 [68.8%] vs 87/160 [54.4%]; P = .008). Higher SVR rates were obtained in group A than group B among patients with genotype 1/4 (51/93 [54.8%] vs 37/93 [39.8%]; P = .04), with genotype 2/3 (59/67 [88.1%] vs 50/67 [74.6%]; P = .046), without cirrhosis (96/127 [75.6%] vs 75/134 [55.9%]; P = .005), and with baseline levels HCV RNA >500,000 IU/mL (58/84 [69%] vs 43/93 [46.2%]; P = .002).
Avatar f tn Hi all. I was wondering if there is any support group for ppl with incidently found thyroid nodules. This diagnosis creates a lot of anxiety and I am lookking for support. Looks like internet serves you with only horror stories. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Those are some terrific questions. As I understand it, NSVT, short for non-sustained ventricular tachycardia, is an occurence of back to back pvcs that last for no longer than 30 seconds in duration. If it lasts longer than 30 seconds it is to be considered sustained ventricular tachycardia, or SVT.
461838 tn?1255790216 Regarding steroid-related side effects, posttransplant diabetes mellitus occurred in 10% vs. 45%, and wound infection in 6% vs. 31% of steroid-free vs. corticosteroid patients (P=0.003 and 0.01)" Randomized trial of steroid-free induction versus corticosteroid maintenance among orthotopic liver transplant recipients with hepatitis C virus: impact on hepatic fibrosis progression at one year.
Avatar m tn In genotype B, 100% (7/7) of responders had HBsAg≤50 IU/mL vs 14% (8/57) of NR/relapsers. In genotype C, 41% (11/27) of responders had HBsAg≤50 IU/mL vs 6% (4/64) of NR/relapsers. In genotype D, 60% (6/10) of responders had HBsAg≤1000 IU/mL vs 9.5% (2/21) of NR/relapsers.
Avatar m tn Although Vit D can help with your treatment not sure it will help in your particular case. There have been studies on it. I'm sure there must be more current studies but here is one link I had on file. http://www.****.
Avatar m tn No, because oral sex on a woman is not a risk. You've been told this already.
Avatar n tn Hi. How old are you? Are you post-menopausal? Exemestane (Aromasin) and similar drugs called aromatase inhibitors, will only work with women who have already undergone menopause. If you're in the reproductive age group, Tamoxifen is still your primary option for hormonal treatment.
1453990 tn?1329231426 ) Given that my living really requires my sight and maintaining my cognitive function, my partner and I talked with the neurologist and came to a group consensus that it is best to treat the increasing lesion count and multiple attacks as RRMS and start DMD therapy with Copaxone. The risk vs. benefit vs. cost was pretty clear. Thanks for the support during my time here.
148588 tn?1465778809 Overall, sustained virological response (SVR) was significantly higher in patients treated with peginterferon plus Chinese herbs than in patients treated with peginterferon alone (81 % vs. 64 %, respectively; odds ratio, 2.60; 95 % confidence interval: 1.32-5.14; p < 0.05). A combined therapy of peginterferon plus Chinese herbs was also superior to peginterferon therapy in achieving an early viral response (EVR, 80 % vs. 70 %, respectively), a viral response at week 24 of treatment (82 % vs.
1815939 tn?1377991799 Twelve percent (1496) of the HCV patients died during the five-year period, 25% (372) of them from cancer. Compared to the general population, the HCV group was more likely to die from non-Hodgkin lymphoma (RR, 2.27) and rectal (RR, 2.60), pancreatic (RR, 1.63), and oral cavity or pharyngeal cancers (RR, 5.22). As expected, the risk of dying from liver cancer was elevated among HCV-infected patients - nearly 30 times higher than among non-infected individuals. Study author Dr. Robert D.
Avatar m tn However, inflammation, fibrosis, and serum ALT were lower in the untreated group (i.e., these patients were least likely to be deemed to require therapy). The SVR group had fewer African-Americans and people with HCV genotype 1 (i.e., these individuals were less likely to achieve sustained response). The analysis did not include patients with other causes of liver disease besides HCV, HIV-HCV coinfection, chronic kidney failure, or prior organ transplants.
Avatar f tn there is a great differnce betweent spotting/bleeding and a full blown period! ones a period with the cramps. lenght. flow....everything that happens when you have period and when you spot/bleed. (its mostly spotting if even that) its in no way similar to a period. its a few drops of blood here and there. not filling a pad or tampon. etc theres a differnce and you would know yes if your so worried your pregnant than simply take a test.
