I have been taking percocet (oxycodone acetaminophen) 5/325 1 pill 3 times a day. That was a great system that worked for me. Recently I was prescribed oxycodone minus the acetaminophen. I understand the risks of liver damage. However, I have had NO relief since I began this new drug. I'm confused because it is the same drug minus the Tylenol. Anyone else experiencing this? Would taking a higher dose of the oxycodone (not Percocet which is oxy with acetaminophen) help me better?

hey maybe you can tell me what would be good to take for pain I had ADR surgery 4 years ago, since then they have been switching my meds around and I want to stop taking anything with Tylenol in it. They have me on 30 mg oxycontin, twice daily, 10/325 percocet 6 a day, soma 4 times daily and xanax 2 mg for anxiety. What are my options for the breakthrough pain, that is what I am taking the percocet for and I need to stop with the Tylenol already enough is enough.

Percs don't have Oxy in them, they are them, basically. Percocet and Oxycontin are the same drug, which is Oxycodone. I highly recommend that people get to know the drug they're taking (for any medicine) rather than the brand names. Oxycontin is Oxycodone in a concentrated form for longer sustained release.

I would not do that. You would be mixing 3 pain relievers. Percocet has acetominophen (Tylenol). I doubt your liver would enjoy the mix. I would check with your dentist or pharmacist. If bones are healing, you don't want to take Advil. That's what an orthopedic surgeon once told me. For some problems, you can alternate your pain meds. If your stomach isn't overly sensitive, you can probably handle 3 Advil at once.

The percocet has i'll just say tylenol because i can't spell the other word for it. So maybe that combination works better for your pain then just morphine alone. Percocet isn't as strong as morphine so if it works better I would just take that because when the time comes to stop taking pain meds it will (or should be) be easier to get off of a weaker pain med.

I am wondering if there is something besides Tylenol 3 that I can ask for to be prescribed as I have some liver issues and everytime I get a migraine or other aches and pains that are too much for over the counter, I get prescribed T3's, but I am concerned they are making my liver worse. I have fatty liver disease, and I don't drink, and I don't really eat fatty foods (the two most common causes of FLD). I just need something as strong as T3's, but not as hard on liver?

The active opioid ingredient in percocet (aka oxycodone) comes in a pill without tylenol so if your tylenol intake through taking percocet gets to a level that is above your comfort zone, be sure to talk to your doctor about oxycodone IR or roxicodone. And, as the other poster stated...you won't stop breathing in your sleep as long as you take it as prescribed by your physician.

I am strongly against the use of acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) as part of the treatment of long term chronic pain. Vicodin, Percocet, Tylenol #3, Tylenol #4 are OK for short term acute pain from surgeries etc. but using them long term everyday as a regimen for treatment of chronic pain is very damaging to the liver. Opioids alone DO NOT damage internal organs. They are one of the safest medicines out there for pain.

Norco is better than most because it only has 325 of Tylenol Vs. 500 or 650. To my knowledge hydrocodone which is the narcotic agent in Norco (I take it too) does not come in a tablet all on it's own. In order to get rid of the Tylenol you have to move up to the drug oxycodone which is in drugs like Percocet they make oxycodone tabs without Tylenol. Question is why are you so worried about your liver? Is your liver already compromised?

yes, percocet is a class 2 narcotic and vicodin is a class 3. Percocet is an oxycodone with tylenol, and vicodin is a hydrocodone with tylenol. If ever you need a refill you can't have a doctor call in a class 2. Both are addictive equally...

Percocet has oxycodone in it rather than the hydrocodone in Vicodin. Oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone. In my experience, the oxy worked better and I had less side effects (upset stomach and "dumb" feeling).

5 weeks and my doctor prescribed tylenol with codeine, otherwise I have only taken regular strength tylenol for headaches and such. The doctor's advice is the best advice!!!

ive been taking 2 to 3 percocet 5/325 everyday twice or 3 times a day for about 3 years. my doc wants me to switch to dilaudid. im wondering which is stronger? if i was to take one percocet id probably be dissapointed, will i be disapointed with one dilaudid? im just curious because percocet has always worked for me, and i need stronger pain meds. so is dilaudid 8mg stronger than percocet 5/325? thanks.

Vicodin is not quite as strong as percocet and you have to make sure you dont go over the tylenol. How much tylenol is in each tablet? However it is still a narcotic and will keep you from going into w/d's.

i was wondering why tylenol 3 would make me constipated? because percocet doesn't. would it be the codeine causing the constipation? is this a 'normal' question? and is it 'normal' to be constipated from one but not the other? thanks for all your help.

re taking too much tylenol -- this will cause liver damage over time. Please limit your tylenol to 3 g per day -- this is 6 - 500mg "extra strength" pills. There is tylenol in Percocet. In the mean time, please ask your doctor to rotate you to roxycodone which does not have tyelnol. A good pain management doctor will work with you and find a proper treatment regimen for your pain.
