Unfortunately oxycodone without aspirin or acetaminophen is impossible to obtain of late. There is a problem with the manufacture. So Percocet or Percodan (or their generic) is the only choice when it comes to short acting oxycodone.
Aspirin therapy should not exceed 12 (325mg) tablets in a 24 hour periods. I appears Coolbreez's mom was not in danger of exceeding that but it is a good point to consider.
Oh, I am also on MS contin at night (one) extended release, but I still feel it when I am out of percocet. I thought they were both opiates, so why do I get w/d when I am out of percocet? Already I feel like I dont know what to do with myself, and on top of it I am in pain. It is my own fault as I KNOW better than to run out, yet every month I am short a few days. I do not dare ask my Dr for more, as he said the DEA is getting very strict. Is the percocet withdrawel in my head?

A LORTAB is basically Vicodin (hyddrocodone), whereas a PERCOCET is a more natural opiate, also called oxycodone. Because oxy is less synthetic, it tends to be a bit stronger. Both meds contain the opiate (either hydro or oxy) and acetaminophen (tylenol).
Both are habit forming when used improperly, or for long periods of time.

s not clear to me why so many Physicians do not order this more often. They usually prescribe Percocet or Percodan. It may have to do with the Manufacturing Reps that push the brand names.... and of course the Pharmacy will usually supplement with Generics anyway.

If you are addicted to Hydrocodone (Vicodin, Norco, Lortab), and you ran out for example, taking any others including Oxycodone (Percocet, Percodan) will work for you. And by the way Oxycodone and Hydrocodone are very similar in nature and are equally addictive. You should think about coming off everything. You mention deciding not to take the Norco and taking the Percocet instead, same difference basically. Also, you mention the Percocet possibly becoming an addiction.
Yes there are other alternatives at least to the pain management medication. Percocet has contains acetaminophen, Percodan contains Acetylsalicylic Acid, or trade name Aspirin which does not have quite the liver issues with it. There are other meds you could take such as Oxycodone that is just the narcotic in the Percocet. I would not recommend going cold turkey without some assistance. Please discuss this with your PMP.
Fentanyl is a stonger form of an opioid. Opiate and opioid mean the same thing: Opiate is an adjective while opioid is a noun. Percocet is an opioid as is fentanyl. They are synthetic which means they are man made and not derived from a plant.

But even percodan and percocet have apap and aspirin in them. But I did need pain relief. So my md wrote for a drug called OPANA its oxymorphone. It is a schedule 2 so most doc's don't want to write for it. But it has nothing else in it. As a pharmacist myself I felt safest taking that. Alittle tylenol is ok but I would have been taking 3 to 4 grams of it and that bad.

I am new to this forum and read your post today from this past spring. All I can say is WOW, the courage it must have taken to do what you did is inspirational. I used duragesic patches for about 8 months along with percocet for chronic pain that no dr. has been able to identify the cause of to date. I weaned myself off of a 50 mcg patch by dropping 12 mcg each month, and that was extremely difficult. Not sure what strength you were at however at any strengh that stuff is evil!
t know if you are addicted to them, or if you are physically tolerant to them, or both. Medications like percocet are not generally hard on the stomach; the things that hurt the stomach are the 'NSAIDS' like aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen... 'percodan' contains aspirin would be worse on the stomach than 'percocet', which has tylenol.
