percocet vs oxycontin

I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?

hey maybe you can tell me what would be good to take for pain I had ADR surgery 4 years ago, since then they have been switching my meds around and I want to stop taking anything with Tylenol in it. They have me on 30 mg oxycontin, twice daily, 10/325 percocet 6 a day, soma 4 times daily and xanax 2 mg for anxiety. What are my options for the breakthrough pain, that is what I am taking the percocet for and I need to stop with the Tylenol already enough is enough.

SInce I was so used to percocet and it worked, she put me on oxycontin. That worked great. I felt so much better. Unfortunately my insurance won't pay for it and I can't afford $218 a month for it. So my doctor put me back on the ****** morphine. I thought I would give it more of a shot. Well 15 mg. doesn't work so she had to bump it up to 30. I hate taking the 15 let alone 15 more every 8 hours.

Ive never heard of a Percocet 30mg, but Percocet and Oxycontin are not the same thing...I believe that Oxycontin is time released while Percocet is not...please someone correct me if Im wrong...hope this helps!

per day, I am out of percocet, but am taking the oxycontin. I feel kind of sick. Arent they the same thing? Why would I be having withdrawels? I take the meds for real pain, and ran out of the percocet, because I try not to take as much oxycontin, becuase it makes me tired and gives me a headache. Any ideas?

Maybe I can shed some light. I won't attempt to identify drugs as the moderators post asks us not to. I've taken Percocet (forever) and OxyContin (6 months) with OxyIR (6 months). Percocet in my body is vastly different than OxyContin and OxyIR. I found they had next to nothing in common. I have serious chronic pain that has lasted since June of 2007 and right now it's cranking me up so bad that I'm really just getting by.

Here is the easiest way to look at it, (i think?) ... Percocet has tylenol in it, however, oxycodone and oxycontin are just straight percocet, no tylenol. I believe that oxycodone is the generic name for Roxicodone, which is also obviously percocet without the tylenol. Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same thing, EXCEPT oxycodone is a quick release tablet, and oxycontin is a slow release of the same med. Hydrocodone is the ingredient in Vicodin and Lortab.

The oxycontin is the same as percocet but without the Tylenol and will give you longer lasting relief... I would just make sure you take it exactly as directed and you may find it works better for you... its different for everyone...

Is Percocet the same thing as oxycontin, only in a non time release formula? I heard the time released stuff works better for chronic pain, Does anybody have experiance with that who can help?

I went down to the 50 mcg patch and then went from the patch to oxycontin with percocet for breakthrough pain. Eventually, I got off of the oxycontin and just tapered the percocet down until I got down to 7.5 mg and then went off. I think you can just substitute the oxycontin and then gradually go down from there. I was on the meds for 12 years and went off last December.

oxycodone is the drug in percocet and oxycontin. Oxycontin is just a brand name.

I have heard that people who have been on opiates for long periods of time do not have such a terrible reactions to stronger meds like fentenyl like people who have not taken opiates. I have not tried Oxycontin I started off on norco then went to dilaudid and now percocet with the Butrans patch. The percs work well but they haven't been working as well with BT pain since I started the Butrans patch.

m sure its the percocet but am alittle confused about the difference between Percocet and the oxycontin as they both have said....OXYCODONE... on the label is the oxy just a time release percocet?

Percocet has oxycodone in it, if that's what your asking? It is no longer prescribed also.

I am back to taking oxycontin 10 mg. every 8 hours. I stopped taking percocet which I was taking 10-325 every 8 hours as well. (not both at the same time). I have stopped the percocet and now I have to stop the oxycontin. but I get so sick after 6 hours... and I really struggle to make it to 8 hours... so I know it is going to be super hard to go the next step of tapering which is taking 1 10 mg. every 12 hours.

Hello all, just a quick question. Is there any difference, as far as wd's, between oxy's and hydro's. I've heard that the hydro's are less aggressive. Now I know that neither are rainbows and butterflies but I wanted to know if any of you had an opinion on this. After a car accident 4 years ago I went through percocet wd's could turkey. Worst 2 weeks of my life!

The only thing I can add to this is that I was given Percocet twice...once in the hospital, and once at home. Both times, I threw up so hard, I lost my voice. It's now in all my medical records for me not to have Oxycontin or Percocet. In fact, when I had my port taken out two weeks ago, I woke up in the recovery room with a bracelet on that had "NO PERCOCET" in big black letters. I agree with Irene.

Hi All ... I am taking Oxycontin 40mg 3x a day and Percocet 10/325 3 x a day ... I want to taper down and jump off at the lowest dose possible ... can some of you give me advice on how you would taper .. how much to taper over a day week and over how long a period of time... This is my third attempt ... I am praying that the third time is the charm ..
