Avatar m tn Due to my involvement with homeless, addicted, and elderly people I am also involved with a people that have residency in subsized apartments. One of the women I have gotten to know has some serious pain issues and has had 17 surgeries. She is going to one of the major hospitals in Cleveland Oh. for her PM. Last friday she picked up her medications and her pack back, straped to her wheelchair, was stolen along her wallet and ID's. She called the Dr. after reporting the theft to the police.
Avatar n tn Yeah, it's pretty much the opiate count. The /500 is the tylenol and is supposed to help kick in the opiate but I've found that the 2nd number is really irrelevant for someone who has been using for awhile. I take 10mg's of oxycodone 3x a day. There is no tylenol in them.... just the opiate and some other minor additives. For me there is no differnce between a 10mg oxycodone or a 10/500mg percocet even though they are both oxycodone. So yeah....
Avatar m tn Another thought- has he been eating solid foods or is he only taking in liquids? If he has only been taking in non-solid food, this could wind up causing bulk not to form in stools.
1278098 tn?1297646373 I had reconstructive knee surgery 19 months ago that left me with 8 screws, a hinge and a plate in my knee. I work in a nursing home caring for the sick elderly. I was on Perks for 3 years and have quit 32 days ago. I am having a hard time managing my pain..I take Tylonal and anti inflammatories...is there anyone out there that has any suggestions for pain management? I am at my wits end and I will not go back to anything that is addictive.
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to blood blisters.
Avatar f tn Hi. 5'10" Gent, and brand spankin newbie to this site. i just turned 56 in April. In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Also using CPAP setting of 14cm for severe sleep apnea, and suffered almost daily migraines. Plus my triglicerides were, as my dr put it, "through the roof!
Avatar f tn I too have mixed quite a number of cocktails in my days, benzos with oxycontin percocet vicoden and soma amongst others, sometimes to the point that I was scared if I fell asleep I may not wake...sad I know but now on suboxone and doing wonderful.

Avatar f tn According to an article in the international journal Research on Aging in 2009, the elderly population in China will have tripled by 2050. Norway and China are in many ways extreme opposites when it comes to family policy. Under China's policy responsibility for the family rests entirely with families themselves. There are almost no institutions for the elderly, and few elderly people receive pensions.
Avatar n tn I am being met with resistance and am concerned that the attending physician is completely in the dark about several studies regarding the negative effects of these particular drugs in elderly patients with dementia, or any helpful alternatives. Are there any alternatives to using antipsychotic medications in this case? I have a hard time believing he is being kept in this state for other than that it makes him less work for the staff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn No, I don't think so it is the symptom of end of life. I lived with my father in law who was 94 years old when he came in. He's healthy, only with asthma. He offered help me to sweep the floor/yard. Hanging and picking up the clothes. He also concentrated on the weather make sure he picked up the clothes before it rained. He'll miss if he slept all the day long! LOL. He liked sleep (usually longer hour than us).
Avatar n tn After my first major cervical fusion where they took bone from my hip...put it into two levels in my neck...I only used 5mg Percocet for a few weeks and then nothing. Just sharing this to show that for kidney stones as I mentioned...it is not usual for them to continue to up the dosage and strength of an opiate. Especially with the elderly you have to take into consideration possible depressed respiratory complications.
Avatar m tn After finding this site and reading several of the posts I just wanted to get on and vent a bit. Started the patch several years ago after trying various other (Percocet, Methadone, etc....) methods to control leg pains due to artery/vein blockage below both knees. My vascular surgeon does not want to operate due to my extensive heart history. Went clear up to the 100mcg patch and just totally felt like sheet. Moody, tired, anxious. You name it, I felt it.
Avatar f tn Extended release (long-acting) medications slow the build-up of tolerance as the medication is released slowly and steadily over an extended period of time from 8-12 hours to up to 7 days of action. The Percocet you take now would become a breakthrough pain medication that you take in between doses of the long-acting medication only as needed. Most patients require one or two dose titrations of the long-acting opioid medication before the dosing is considered optimal.
Avatar n tn My Mom is 92 years old. Has been living on her own in Elderly housing for 20 years. Her dementia consisted of repeating and repeating, forgetting who visited, etc. but went throughout her normal activities w/some services very well and very happiy. Always knew us but was starting to forget other people but after prompting she would be ok. 3 weeks ago she developed a very severe resistant UTI and then got c-dift (not sure how to spell that). Anyway ended up dilusional, confused, etc.
Avatar n tn I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .
Avatar f tn The elderly generally take smaller doses because the liver metabolizes drugs more in the elderly. And any antidepressant can cause increased anxiety particularly in the beginning, but even later, as they can be stimulating.
611606 tn?1315517767 Hi, I am owned by a wonderful 15 year old Kitty. Smokie and I have been together since he was 5 weeks old. A year ago he started showing his age and seemed uncomfortable. I took him to the Vet, and was told that h was very geriatric, so of course I brought him back home, so relived I didn't have to put him to sleep. Now he is getting worse, his cries sound like he is in pain, he longer walks well. I don't want him to suffer, he has been such a huge part of my life.
691463 tn?1227419054 we have an elderly cat of 17, he is suddenely much more lethargic than usual, as if in a daze and drooling heavily, we wonder if he may have had a stroke, he experienced something like a seizure couple of weeks ago.

Avatar n tn Percocet IS oxycodone. Oxycodone is the opiate ingredient in percocet. The -cet part denotes that there is acetominophen (tylenol) in the pill as well, so percocet is actually oxycodone with tylenol.
Avatar m tn No, but if a pet has all the symptoms, such as enlargement of all the lymph nodes in an elderly patient there is a chance that the patient may have lymphoma. A veterinarian would than do a fine needle aspirate (needle biopsy), or excisional biopsy, and bloodwork to be definitive.
Avatar n tn There are boxed warnings on the labels (also you could go to the medication website as well) stating to use caution about the use of antipsychotics in people who are elderly especially people with dementia. It would be worthwhile to see a neurologist who specializes in gerontology. There are medications specifically designed to treat dementia that might be able to be used without these concerns of which they would have more knowledge of.
