Percocet in early pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet in early pregnancy

percocet

Avatar f tn I'm wondering if anyone has taken narcotics early in pregnancy.. Ie.Percocet/dilaudid. Long story stort, I was diagnosed with kidney stones septemper 18th and found out I was pregnant a week later. The baby was planned but the stones were not, haha. Anyway, after finding out I was pregnant I attempted to stop using the Percocets, but the kidney stone pain was too severe to be controlled by Tylenol Alone and I resorted back to taking Percocet for pain maganement.
Avatar f tn i am perscribed percocet. I have taken 2 5/375 mg every 6 hrs but ususlly no more than 6 in a day. I some times only take 4 and once in a while as little as 1 a day. I am 35 weeks pregnant and don't want any issues when i deliver. so my question Is it true stopping completely as in no "tapering off" will send my baby in to shock or me in to pre term labor or be as bad as some NoN doctor people are saying on here?
Avatar f tn If you are taking them as prescribed and under medical supervision, usually things are fine. What you do not want to do is just stop them cold turkey, or even change your dosage without first talking to your Dr. With medications such as this, your Dr. should be weighing risk vs. benefit - it's maybe not ideal to take percocet in pregnancy, but it's definately not a good thing for you to be in constant pain either.
Avatar n tn Here's a link for Percocet & pregnancy - http://www.drugs.com/percocet.html. Percocet is category 'c' - little or known studies have been conducted for safety for pregnant women. The best thing to do is ask your dr about it - he's the best person to advise you because he knows your situation - I wish you good luck!
Avatar m tn I was wondering if anyone else has the same issues i have and can explain what is happening. My doc changed my medicine from OXYIR to Percocet a week and a half ago. I am normally in bed around 11:00 am and I take Zanaflex that helps me relax before bed. Now here is the kicker, I wake up around 3:00 a.m. almost every morning yawning and I can not go back to sleep. IT almost feels like I am going through mini withdrawals. Will I eventually get a full nights sleep again?
1565432 tn?1295252598 There are no problems with narcotics and pregnancy. Especially as early as you are. Percocet is also a very mild narcotic. You can take it safely and in fact pain will cause stress and many other related problems which are harmful for the baby. I have a disease and was on much stronger narcotics for my whole pregnancy - I have a healthy happy 4 year old and 2 month old. Don't worry!
Avatar f tn Please anyone i need help and answers i am scared please can someone tell me what is going to happen to my baby i have been stuck on pain medication vicoden and percet first it was for my back and migrains doctor gave mr tylenol 3 it didnt work well so i went back to my vicoden and percocet so someone please tell me my baby is still going to be normal and healthy and let me know what you have been on in pregnancy or if anyone is in the same spot or has been and how much u were taking i am scared
Avatar f tn You are so early in your pregnancy, get help now while you can. Please don't let it continue without asking for help. If you tell your Dr NOW, he/she will more than likely commend you for coming clean to now instead of further along in your pregnancy when it will be more of a struggle to help you.......don't let this go hun. Put your baby first right now.
Avatar f tn Yup I was scared but had to I had my gallbladder removed at 20 weeks pregnant I had to take for pain or couldve went in early labor because of pain and stress I had to be stabilized trust me I didnt want to but it's safe in second trimester baby is formed ..but I didn't abuse medicine problem is baby can get addicted so I rushed to heal and started Tylenol so I didnt continue on narco..scary but safe if needed!
Avatar n tn The only difference is that the Percocet is a lower dose of oxycodone and it contains Tylenol but its the same narcotic in both meds and is no different except I would think Percocet would be worse because of the Tylenol which can be DEVESTATING to the liver. No narcotic pain med is good for a fetus and all narcotic pain meds will cause the baby to be born dependent to opiates and cause them to go through withdrawal when born.
1536087 tn?1292526415 ( suboxone ) due to the greater amounts of toxins opposed to the percocets themselves, because is it still sooo early in the pregnancy. My ultimate goal is to not be dependent on these meds the whole pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Xray of ankle is fine and most pain killers are safe in pregnancy including Tylenol 3 (codeine) and vicodien, percocet too. I have a fractured spine and pelvis and I am 29 weeks pregnant and take vicodein every day for pain. My dr is aware and both dr and OB are completely fine with it. They said it's better to control the pain that not bc your bodys reaction to pain can stress the baby.
Avatar n tn I had 40 pills left at 10mg and I used to take anywhere from 6-8 a day but some days I had taken a couple more. Needlesstosay, I am tired of always running out early and the crappy feeling I get when I don't have them. SO, I have started to taper down 8 day to 7 to 6 etc. Will this keep me from withdrawing much? Am I doing it right? I used to snort them but have been taking in the correct way and I don't seem to jones as much if at all this way.
Avatar n tn It was probably occuring with women who were taking them before they were pregnant or who began early in pregnancy and then kept taking them throughout the pregnancy. Or they may have been taking more than prescribed and just not told anyone. You never know. My sister was prescribed percocet during her pregnancy for a wisdom tooth that was removed. She gave birth to a healthy boy who is nine years old now. Trust your doctor and relay your concerns to him.
Avatar f tn My husband and i have recently decided to try and get pregnant and were both very excited however i had hip surgery a year ago and because of this i have extremely bad back pain and take percocet because of it, is it safe to take percocet while trying to conceive, and will it lessen my chances?
Avatar f tn Do not take tylenol and he percocet. Percocet is safe I took it with a bunch of my pregnancys. I had kidney stones bad and had to be hospitalized a lot and put on iv pain med but when it was manageable I was on. 1-2 Percocet 5's every 4-6 hrs through out my pregnancys. I only get bad stones while pregnant but my babies were all healthy, well the ones I took the medicine with. If you are in pain take your medicine bonus it help with pregnancy pains...
Avatar m tn If your pain is not well controlled - meaning you need to fill early often - talk to your PMP and see if a change may be in order - either in the number of tablets, the dosage or the actual opiate.
Avatar f tn I will be planning to have a child in about a year and want to know if Percocet has any effects on genes or cells that could cause problems for a fetus to properly develop. Should I have some type of test to determine if nothing is damaged due to the long term use of taking them.
Avatar f tn And by a long time- I mean when he/she is developing in the early years. Drugs stay with the baby for up to 5 days.
Avatar n tn You can stay off of them just for the few months you are carrying a child. Your child will be in much better health if no drugs are in his/her system!!! Good Luck to you and your baby.
Avatar n tn I was on percocet thru out my pregnancy w/ my 2nd son. I was also concerned about him going thru w/ds after he was born. Most of the info I looked up online back then said it depended on how much u take and how close to birth its in your system. I believe I hadn't take any for about 2 days bfore my son was born & he did not seem to go thru any w/ds @ all. Hope this helps. Try googling the subject and see what u can find.
Avatar n tn The main risk factor is exposing your baby to the opiate. If your baby goes through the pregnancy exposed to the Percocet it will most likely have to withdrawal from it when it is born... is the doctor that is prescribing you the medicine your OB or your family medicine doc? Primary docs treat the patient- OB docs treat the pt AND the baby- so most OB's would recommend you taper off the medicine for the baby's sake.
Avatar f tn Acetaminophen is routinely used for short-term pain relief and fever in all stages of pregnancy. Acetaminophen is believed to be safe in pregnancy when used intermittently for short durations. Use of narcotic analgesics in late pregnancy is associated with the risk of neonatal withdrawal. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Acetaminophen-oxycodone containing products should only be given during pregnancy when there are no alternatives and benefit outweighs risk.
Avatar f tn My medicine (Percocet-the lowest dose 5/325)seems to have gone "missing" during visits of my building repairmen due to recent AC leaking down from my ceiling apartment. I am a week away (the 7th of Sept) to get my refill so this leaves me with sleepless nights and agony. I called my Doctor who through an MA said she was reluctant but would fill it on the 30th.
Avatar f tn The pain is getting worse with each day. Has anyone gone through pregnancy with fibromyalgia? I have no clue what to do. I was diagnosed after my first pregnancy 8 years ago. This is all new to me and I didn't know that I will be in this much pain so early. I am only 4 weeks and I need a solution for the rest of this time. Any advice?
1887358 tn?1320931131 My question is, would anyone have any suggestions on a good pain mgmt doctor in the Sarasota,Venice,North Port or Port Charlotte area? I have tried the chiropractor route and that just made things so much more worse that I know had to have these xrays done to see what is the real problem. My family doc prescribes me Percocet 10/650mg 3 times a day but these don't seem to last more then 2-3 hours per pill and she won't increase my dosage becasue she says she is not a pain mgmt doctor.
