I am 26 years old and I am going in for my second knee surgery due to multiple patella dislocations. My first surgery was similar to a lateral release. Now my surgeon is going to try something more extensive. My question is after my first surgery I was given hydrocodone 10mg/325, which didn't do a whole lot. Now right now before my surgery my surgeon prescribed me percocet 5/325, which doesn't do anything, I have to take 2 (so it amounts to 10/325 to feel relief).

Metabolism.
Food gets converted to calories. Simplistically (leaving out lots of variables), If you burn off less calories than your intake, you gain weight. If you burn off more calories than your intake, you lose weight.
When people exercise/run/treadmill/jumpingjacks, etc., they are trying to burn off more calories than the amount of calories taken in.
See if his doctor can write him a prescription for some Requip for restlessness, Neurontin for anxiety and malaise, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose, for sleep.
Clonidine is very helpful for the creepy-crawly feeling and control of blood pressure variations. It will make the withdrawals easier. Valerian and Magnesium is sometimes helpful remedies over the counter.
I am in a similar boat but I did it for no reason...I got on the pills for fun and it is anything but fun. My advice is to get off as quick as you can. You don't wan't to end up like me and be in this boat 5 years from now. Go to your Doc and tell him your concerns. He can put you on something that isn't as potent and wean you down, you don't sound like an addict so dont turn into one.
I would recommend benadryl for sleep (or tylenol PM), immodium for the stomach issues and advil for the aches. Hot showers or baths are SUPER helpful and the only place I felt remotely ok during withdrawal. Take as many as you can for as long as you can. You really don't have that much further to go! Recovery and the mental side of this is a lifelong thing. Once the physical goes away we have the mental to deal with. Have you thought about any recovery plan?? Therapy, meetings, etc??
that means to reduce your dose and stay at the new dose for several days, then reduce again. This is doable but for many it is too hard to have the self control to not take more pills. It can work if there is someone else that can give you your pills. (they hold them)
The other way is to have at least 4-5 days free and just quit cold turkey. It is like a very bad case of the flu that last 5-7 days. The 2nd week is usually a bit better. You can function but not feeling really up to par.
Yeah thats quite a bit of Percocet...sorry I misunderstood. Well hopefully you can figure out a good tapering schedule that fits your needs. And like I wrote above...if you have someone to help and distribute your meds according to the schedule...it does help a lot.
Percocet is a strong, habit forming, opiate medication. It is prescribed for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. It should never be used in any other way, for any other reason, unless there was some unusual circumstance that your doctor dictated the usage of Percocet for some other purpose.
The BEST thing to do, always, if you're having an issue, or problems with your medications, is to discuss the options with your doctor.

I also take percocet along with neurontin (gabapentin). The gabapentin is very similar to lyrica. I drink coffee 4-5 days per week and I haven't encountered any issues and I have been on percocet for almost a year and gabapentin for almost 2 years. I don't think there are any severe reactions when coffee is mixed with percocet or lyrica or both.
His doctor will be looking at things related to thyroid function in the blood test...not doing a drug test. The doctor can't drug test your friend's blood without his consent. Did your friend agree to a drug test? Probably not, so he shouldn't worry. He isn't going to have one done on his blood.
Also, there is something called HIPPA. Your friend's doctor can't just call someone else up and give out personal medical information about your friend. It's against the law.
Man, I used to love percocet. Lucky for me I never got ahold of enough to get addicted to them.
That said, the first week can be pretty rough, and there's not alot to do about it. Try to think of it as having a really bad case of the flu. Avisg recommended some good things. It will end, it just takes time.
You can try OTC sleep aids and Melatonin for sleep. That helps some people. Also, you can ask your Dr. for Clonodine.
I would never have believed it. I have been on Percocet for 10 years and then was taking Ultram to not have withdrawal but after reading all the horror stories on here about Ultram, I tried the Neurontin. I have been on it for 3 days and no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. I am shocked. I heard it is not addictive either so I'm staying on it for a week or two and then stopping to see if the Perc are out of my system.
she was the one for me and its over.. any words of advise? she lost the connection for me bc as some of you may or may not know it kills your sex drive and makes you affectionless.. it did to me anyway. i have gotten off pain killers before and it was hard, i just couldnt deal with the pain (bulging disc and foot tingle).. but i am never going back thats for sure. Also i started my last semester of college this week and i feel like i will never be able to go.
Percocet seem to make me less productive than Lortab....is this common? ...by the way, ive weened down to 3 percs. a day and plan on weening down to 2 1/2 a day next week....... I m going to the see my doc today and im gonna ask for Lortab and contiune my weening on them....OPIINIONS PLEASE..THANKS..
