Percocet and liver disease

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet and liver disease

percocet

Avatar n tn t been drinking while taking Percocet as it is especially toxic to the liver. I recently found out I have liver disease and I am only 31 years old. I took percocet for a few years, along with anti-depressants, and drank heavy in my 20s which caused liver damage with fatty deposits and enlargement of my liver with hemangioma. I was told it is irreversible. I'm now on an extremely strict diet and have to be careful the rest of my life so it doesn't develop into cirrosis.
Avatar f tn My husband is one as well, he is on pain management and his liver is fine I am sure other people will come along and help out, there are many nice people here on this site
1580703 tn?1651904887 I also have clay colored stools and was diagnosed with fatty liver disease on ultrasound (unclear test), but the hepatitis blood tests were negative. do I have autoimmune liver disease? I've been taking budesonide in symbicort and prednisone over the years.
Avatar n tn I'm in my 30s and do not drink but abuse percocet on and off throughout the year. My enzymes have never been elevated but now they are. I take 1300mg APAP (20mg oxycodone) at once and then 975mg APAP 4 hours later and then that is it for the day. I repeat this for 2 weeks and then go anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months off. No alcohol ever used in conjunction and rarely alcohol when not taking APAP. I quit using the painkillers 10 days before my test. My ALTs were 59.
1565432 tn?1295252598 There are no problems with narcotics and pregnancy. Especially as early as you are. Percocet is also a very mild narcotic. You can take it safely and in fact pain will cause stress and many other related problems which are harmful for the baby. I have a disease and was on much stronger narcotics for my whole pregnancy - I have a healthy happy 4 year old and 2 month old. Don't worry!
2110255 tn?1334188549 Also, on the Medhelp Addiction/Substance Abuse community, there have been many posts of people that were taking 12 norco/vicodin or 12 percocet at one time to get high and they had a liver panel completed that showed their liver enzymes were through the roof and remained that way for several months/years after the abuse stopped. Higher levels of liver enzymes (especially the ALT enzyme) is linked directly to overuse of tylenol or acetaminophen.
Avatar m tn With the Tylenol and Hep C, it also depends on how far the liver disease as progressed. If you are at Stage 1 or 2 and Grade 1 or 2, I would not worry so much. Anything past that stage and grade is something to be concerned about. In your case, stay as far away from Tylenol as you can. Also Gabapentin has a great effect on the liver. That is another drug to avoid with Hep C.
Avatar f tn Yes,,it will really mess up your liver as percocet has tylenol/ acetaminophen in it and your liver is already compromised. You will need to have liver function tests freq to determine if any damage is occuring. Stopping the pills will help your liver. You really need to discuss this with your MD if possible. I do not know of any safe over the counter cleansing things for the liver. I would be very cautious using those. You dont want to upset a liver that already is upset from the Hep C.
Avatar f tn I was in AA for 12 years when I started back drinking and taking percocet. I know the signs of addiction but ignored this and continued my addiction. My question is what is the effect on the body when drinking and takiing pain pills regulary? It can't be good to use both. I trust I will get an answer and will be so apprecative for an answer.
1268301 tn?1270348507 I have done my research on the damage that Tylenol can inflict on your Liver. I have been abusing Percocet and Vicodin for the better part of two years. I have NEVER gone over the 4,000 mg. limit in 24 hours. I think I may have went a bit over a couple of times but it was only by like a couple of hours. I also have not been eating right, and I have been smoking a lot of Tobacco during my addiction which I know can add to the danger of Liver damage.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Vicodin for a little over a year and then Percocet for about 2 years. During those time periods, I had elevated liver enzymes and periodic liver pain, all of which dissapated after stopping the tylenol. And yes, I was taking them as prescribed and my total daily amount was around 2,600 mg...no where near the 4,000 mg limit. I have finally been switched to Oxycodone IR, which contains only the opioid that is present in Percocet without the tylenol.
Avatar m tn I had back surgery a few years ago and the dr prescribed oxycodone for pain since I had liver disease rather then oxycontin which I believe had tylenol. As Trinity said this stuff is seriously addictive and tolerance increases very rapidly. I threw hundreds of them out after a month of taking them when the acute pain subsided reasonably well.
Avatar f tn I got my liver enzymes checked after I quit and mine was fine...may want to if it worried u...and i u were in a tylenol toxicity crisis...u would be sick and in the hospital ..
Avatar f tn Lastly, the one thing you do want to be careful with is mixing alcohol with the percocet as the acetaminophen combined with alcohol can cause severe liver problems and even liver failure if the two are mixed on a regular basis. I hope your headache gets better soon.
Avatar f tn I am really trying to see if my sister's condition has anything to do with her being given this shot. Last time she was given it was April 2013, she is currently in the hospital fighting for her life!! So with all the warnings about if you have a liver disease you shouldn't be taking this shot and the doctors are advising her liver isn't functioning and for it to be as far gone as it is, if she had come to hospital a year ago they wouldn't have been able to do anything!!
Avatar f tn Autoimmune disorders Sometimes a body’s immune system may begin to attack the liver or bile ducts causing inflammation and scarring which leads to a progressive form of liver disease. Examples of liver diseases believed to be caused by the immune system are primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and autoimmune hepatitis.
Avatar n tn If your report says that your bilirubin is high, then you probably have jaundice (jaundice is the accumulation of bilirubin under the skin) and some type of liver disease that needs further testing and diagnosis. My two cents. Take care and God bless.
Avatar f tn I was going thru a bottle of vodka every 2 to 3 days. I started having discomfort in the liver area with nausea fatigue and dry mouth. Had an lft done all normal. Still felt sick and went to the hospital lft normal except elevated bilirubin ultrasound normal. Had another lft couple of weeks after bilrubin down to 1.3. And another normal ultrasound. I still deal with right quadrant pain fatigue and nausea.
1714226 tn?1308625105 Hi, my name is Patty and I am 29 years old. To say that liver disease runs in my family would be a huge understatement, for my grandmother, aunt, and my father have all died of cirrhosis of the liver. Neither of the 3 were alcoholics either. Since the age of 18, I have had routine checkups and blood work, keeping a close eye on my liver function and health. In January of 2010, I was diagnosed with gallbladder disease and had surgery to remove it.

Avatar f tn My daughter has been diagnosed with liver disease. She had hep c but that is now under control. She has developed varies in the aesophagus and these are banded every three months. She now has frequent nose bleeds and would like to know the significance of this. She had a drug problem and she also continues to drink alcohol in large amounts. What is the likely outcome of this as she does not listen to what I have to say regarding not drinking.
Avatar n tn God made the liver to be self replicating and self healing. You can lose half of it to disease and it will heal itself if you treat it right. Please "Google" liver and you will see how wonderful it is.
Avatar f tn He should be restricting sodium, taking medications to prevent ascites, varices, and hepatic encephalopathy, monitoring for liver cancer, restricting red meat, eating a liver friendly diet, and not drinking or taking medications that harm the liver. Obviously it is his choice whether or not to drink and whether or not to take care of his liver.
