percocet

433485 tn?1321813390 I am in Pain management and take 15 mg of percocet a day. I have bowel movement, 2 or 3 every day, but sometimes I will miss a day. When that happens I take miralax. I also take fiber everyday and when I think about it ( bad I know) colace that was prescribed by gi. they sent me home with presciption for miralax and had me drink citrate magnesium that night to clean out. I am now following directions and doing what I was told to do. My question is has this ever happened to any one else?
Avatar n tn I had been constipated on my vacation and took an EZlax. I felt better immediatly. Soon after I felt stomach pains and took it again. I used it because they made me feel better, now I stopped using them and I can't go to the restroom without it. I'm really nervous because I'm so young (14) and I don't want to be unhealthy. I'm afraid to tell my parents and I would like to know some foods or drinks that could help me go to the restroom again.
Avatar f tn I am also taking pain medicine which is much needed for getting through this recovery and other health issues. Saw my surgeon last week and there are no other follow up visits. My question is: when is the normal amount of time to cut back some of the laxatives? It doesn't seem like my abdomen is ever relaxing. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn You could ask the doctor for those blood tests like the thyroid function, kidney function and liver function and also for tips on a healthy way to shed any unhealthy extra pounds if he says your body fat percentage is higher than the healthful range. Also, your profile states your age as 20, so that should be edited!
Avatar n tn She had taken laxatives for many years and her colon had become almost inactive to the extent that a total colectomy was being considered to solve the problem. I suggest that you ask your doctor whether this may represent an eventual outcome for you if you take laxatives for many years. If so, then perhspa dietray modifications such as plenty of fibre (especially bran) in your diet may forestall the eventuial requirement for more drastic surgery.
433485 tn?1321813390 The answer is to end the use of the opiate in in many cases the intestine will return to normal within three to five days. More water and laxatives do not help. The specific drug to take to immediately end the problem is a prescription opiate antagonist, namely naltrexane.
534658 tn?1213316661 I recently found out I'm about 6 weeks pregnant. I have been using laxatives, bisacodyl tablets, for years because of constipation. I know I've become somewhat dependant on them. I had a slight bit of spotting today and I'm wondering if it could be due to the laxatives or if it is just the normal spotting that comes along with the first trimester of pregnancy?
1701851 tn?1338085791 If too stressed, etc, I still have a habit of purging, and or restricting. I also admit, I do abuse laxatives, and I have for a long time, off and on. I hate to admit it, but might as well be honest. I can take up to eight-fifteen laxatives a day, (usually just eight though...not that, that makes it any better). If I don't take them, it can be up two a week and half before I can movey bowels, and when I do, I never feel like they have completely emptied.
Avatar f tn Please explain exactly what you are feeding on a daily basis, whether any medications and supplements are being given (including the type of probiotic), her age and breed and whether any other illnesses are known. What laxatives have you tried?
Avatar m tn Don't panic. It's totally not true that using any laxative for more than a week can cause irreversible damage. Though it is a commonplace belief, and cited as fact in medical publications, which should know better, the myth of laxative addiction/damage to the colon results from some very un-useful research in the early twentieth century. Suffice to say it involved corpses of people who had taken suicidal overdoses of laxatives and other drugs which may have had a constipating effect.
2133558 tn?1368828158 And in the 2 weeks taking laxatives n not eating lost 9 more pounds very hard to get off I am usually be up front about everything so maybe one of my doctors will help me Idk Thanks
1222635 tn?1366396286 You seem very focused in on your stomach and how much you eat and on taking laxatives. Your doctor would only prescribe you meds for bloating if there were a physiological reason for it. Feeling full is normal, but feeling overfull might be due to overeating or eating very heavy things or having a problem with gas. But, most likely you are just hyper-aware of your tummy after you eat which is one of the symptoms of an eating disorder.
Avatar f tn Or lots of stone fruits like apricots and plums. Try and drink LOTS of water and also liquorice is good. Stay away from full cream things and sugar. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn This is your first step, and I would get off the laxatives and try Miralax, which is not a stimulant and can be used indefinitely. It pulls water to the stool so that you can pass it. If you have been using laxatives for a long time, your colon gets lazy and has trouble going without the help from the laxatives, which compounds your constipation.
794656 tn?1237171629 Laxative abuse can cause permanent damage to your kidneys, liver and colon function. Because laxatives work on the colon and not the stomach all but 12% of the calories ingested are excreted with laxative use. In addition, laxative abuse can cause dehydration, electrolyte imbalances (causing arrhythmias and heart attack), bloating, gas, severe abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. Avatar f tn hi ive been suffering from constipation for 10 years, and ive been taking laxatives for the past 5 years now. was taking senna for 3 years and found out i had melanosis coli as a result of it, so went on a strict fibre diet for a whole year and my condition didnt get any better, so now im taking dulcolax every night.
551343 tn?1506830518 These include Magnesium or Phosphate containing laxatives and nonabsorbable sugars (Lactulose, Sorbitol, Glycerin) and polyethylene glycol (Miralax). They work by increasing fluid accumulation in the colon and small intestine which improves constipation. These are effective for treatment of opiate induced constipation. Some data show that lactulose is better than sorbitol and that Miralax is better than lactulose. * Emollient Laxatives: These include Colace (Docusate) or mineral oil.
Avatar n tn A doctor should determine when a patient needs a laxative and which form is best. Laxatives taken by mouth are available in liquid, tablet, gum powder, and granule forms. They work in various ways: Bulk-forming laxatives generally are considered the safest, but they can interfere with absorption of some medicines. These laxatives, also known as fiber supplements, are taken with water. They absorb water in the intestine and make the stool softer.
Avatar m tn Actually I am no longer constipated and having regular bowel movements. Since I quit the laxatives (senna and casgara) 3 weeks ago, I have been taking psyllium husks in capsules which has really help with my constipation and made me regular and able to have a bowel movement every day. However, I am very bloated. According to information on the web bloating is a side effect of laxative withdrawal. I don't exactly know why and trying to find out.
Avatar f tn Following a colonoscopy ( for long term diarrhea) my doc informed me everything is normal, and the biopsies show no indication of any abnormalities EXCEPT melanosis - which is likely from a history of laxatives of diet teas. I told him I've never taken laxatives or diet teas and left it at that. I don't think he believed me however, as he offered no other explanation. He did not seem concerned, so nor was I.
Avatar m tn I FEEL AS IF I COULD JUST HAVE THIS HUGE FART I WOULD BE OK. I ABUSED LAXATIVES IN THE PAST, AND I THINK MY COLON HAS BECOME LAZY, AND I WILL HAVE TO RETRAIN MYSELF. I WENT TO MY DOCTOR MY PRESSURE IS GOOD 120/78 AND MY BLOODWORK CAME BACK GOOD. WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THIS SITUATION. MY STOMACH JUST GROWLS AND GROWLS, I AM AFRAID TO TAKE MORE LAXATIVES, I WAS TAKING MILK OF MAGNESIA, WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed DOC-Q-LACE 100mg caps 2 times per day about three weeks ago to the shock of my gastrointestinal specialist(pills were prescribed by my family MD). Apparently these type of laxatives can make your colon dependent on them and not work on it's own, could take months or years or possibly never work on it's own again! This news was very disturbing to me to say the least.
Avatar f tn I only started taking percocet yesterday, after suffering for 4 days with severe pain. I had tried everything, NSAIDS, hot wet compresses, I went for massages 4 days in a row! I'm going to have to go back and get an MRI, but in the meantime, I need to take the percocets. I just don't know if I should continue taking the subs while I am on the percocet. I want off the subs really bad, but I only got 15 percs and I don't know how long it will take me to get another Dr appt.
Avatar n tn My Doc said stool softener and laxatives are both fine to take and when I asked any specific brand he said not really. I took laxatives once or twice and didn't have any issues with it affecting the baby negatively.
