Avatar m tn hey maybe you can tell me what would be good to take for pain I had ADR surgery 4 years ago, since then they have been switching my meds around and I want to stop taking anything with Tylenol in it. They have me on 30 mg oxycontin, twice daily, 10/325 percocet 6 a day, soma 4 times daily and xanax 2 mg for anxiety. What are my options for the breakthrough pain, that is what I am taking the percocet for and I need to stop with the Tylenol already enough is enough.
Avatar f tn I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
Avatar m tn My dr has asked me to think about changing from oxycodone 10/325 5xdaily (percocet) to oxycontin. I've done the research on oxycontin as requested and can see that they most likely are worrying about the dose of tylenol for so long. I do want to decrease pain meds and am worried about addiction. This percocet rx has been ongoing for at least 3-4 years on an increasing dose basis.
Avatar f tn I am back to taking oxycontin 10 mg. every 8 hours. I stopped taking percocet which I was taking 10-325 every 8 hours as well. (not both at the same time). I have stopped the percocet and now I have to stop the oxycontin. but I get so sick after 6 hours... and I really struggle to make it to 8 hours... so I know it is going to be super hard to go the next step of tapering which is taking 1 10 mg. every 12 hours.
203003 tn?1210855907 Ive never heard of a Percocet 30mg, but Percocet and Oxycontin are not the same thing...I believe that Oxycontin is time released while Percocet is not...please someone correct me if Im wrong...hope this helps!
210982 tn?1280983895 Yes although dosage and frequency of usage does matter. In my experience morphine, high dosage oxycontin and methadone are the most effective (and the most addicting) pain killers.
Avatar f tn Hi All ... I am taking Oxycontin 40mg 3x a day and Percocet 10/325 3 x a day ... I want to taper down and jump off at the lowest dose possible ... can some of you give me advice on how you would taper .. how much to taper over a day week and over how long a period of time... This is my third attempt ... I am praying that the third time is the charm ..
1161075 tn?1262988428 It is pure oxycodone in amounts much larger than in Percocet. OxyContin pills come with 10, 20, 40 ,80 or 160 mg of oxycodone. Just one OxyContin pill can have the same amount of oxycodone as 16 Percocets With OxyContin, only part of the oxycodone is released when the pill is taken. The rest of the oxycodone has been coated so that it is released into the body slowly. This is how OxyContin relieves pain for so many hours.
Avatar m tn I'm I having withdrawl or not I stopped taking percocet 40 hrs ago and lying in bed tonight my hands and shoulders were aching so bad I was tossing and turning I got up and took 2 10's Percocet and 1 10 Oxycontin and now I'll spend the rest of the night in my recliner , The question is, is my pain a reaction to stopping the Percocet . I've gone through this time and time again only to have the pain over whelm me .
Avatar f tn The side effect of euphoria is what makes percocet and the long acting form (oxycontin) so addicting. Chasing that effect will require you to take more and more of the medication. And the goal of pain relief will become secondary. The reason why you didn't feel this with the oxycontin is because the medicine is on a time released schedule to be released over a 12 hour period.
Avatar m tn 5/325 percocet and 10 mg oxycontin i still have some of both. i am down to 1 percocet a day (1/2 in mid am and 1/2 mid pm) and 1 oxy at night. At what point should i just stop? Thanks for any input this is a great site!
Avatar f tn i have been on percocet 10/325 for nearly 4 yrs and my ortho added 2/20 mg oxycontin 2 months ago because the percocets don't last very long anymore. i've got bone fragments in my neck & a lower back injury which caused total paralysis twice (temporarily) a few years ago & am on disability for such among other illnesses, which may or may not include scleroderma and/or R.A.
667913 tn?1242700488 As I understand it, oxycodone is percocet in a non time released form. Oxycontin is essentially percocet in a time release form...ie, take on pill now and it's effectiveness should last up to 12 hours...there may be more to it than that. oxycodone's effects usually last approx 4-6 hours.
Avatar f tn I was taking 50mg.oyxcontin a.m. and 40 mg. p.m. I am down to 10 mg. now but I'm so tired. I was also taking Percocet for break thru pain 2-4 / day for about 2 years. The withdrawal hasn't been that bad. Sweats, a bit jittery but mostly fatigue and depression. I don't want to do anything. It's the fatigue that is driving me crazy. Thanks for your help.
478811 tn?1208474960 but then it was kind of like I was fed up with having pain after having increased pain for days and days and days with the taper, and I just wanted a few hours with good pain relief. so I took a 10 mg oxycontin ~8pm and then 5mgs percocet at 11pm when the oxycontin did not do it b/c I just wanted to feel comfortable for awhile.
Avatar f tn Her dosages have increased so much over the year...at first Tylenol #4 ...then percocet..
Avatar n tn I have post polio syndrome as well. There are some good days and some really, really bad days. Over the past 10 years I have been on many pain meds to help with these symptoms. I have been on Oxycontin about 4 times and have stopped using it because the drug demands you to increase the dose and I am not willing to become a slave to these drugs. I have been on just Percocet 5-10mg about 3 times a day for about 3 years.
Avatar f tn per day, I am out of percocet, but am taking the oxycontin. I feel kind of sick. Arent they the same thing? Why would I be having withdrawels? I take the meds for real pain, and ran out of the percocet, because I try not to take as much oxycontin, becuase it makes me tired and gives me a headache. Any ideas?
558096 tn?1255887002 Maybe I can shed some light. I won't attempt to identify drugs as the moderators post asks us not to. I've taken Percocet (forever) and OxyContin (6 months) with OxyIR (6 months). Percocet in my body is vastly different than OxyContin and OxyIR. I found they had next to nothing in common. I have serious chronic pain that has lasted since June of 2007 and right now it's cranking me up so bad that I'm really just getting by.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was in a similar position last May....I was taking Oxycontin and Percocet for my broken tailbone, and was becoming quite tolerant to them, and I had a major surgery scheduled to remove a portion of my coccyx bone--a very painful surgery with a lengthy and very painful recovery. It is very important to make sure that all the doctors know your doses, so that they can give you the correct amount of anesthesia, and post-op meds.
699217 tn?1323438700 Here is the easiest way to look at it, (i think?) ... Percocet has tylenol in it, however, oxycodone and oxycontin are just straight percocet, no tylenol. I believe that oxycodone is the generic name for Roxicodone, which is also obviously percocet without the tylenol. Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same thing, EXCEPT oxycodone is a quick release tablet, and oxycontin is a slow release of the same med. Hydrocodone is the ingredient in Vicodin and Lortab.
135691 tn?1271097123 The only thing I can add to this is that I was given Percocet twice...once in the hospital, and once at home. Both times, I threw up so hard, I lost my voice. It's now in all my medical records for me not to have Oxycontin or Percocet. In fact, when I had my port taken out two weeks ago, I woke up in the recovery room with a bracelet on that had "NO PERCOCET" in big black letters. I agree with Irene.
