More than 1,000 patients will be enrolled in PROGRESS and will be randomized to receive one of four dosing regimens of PEGASYS plus ribavirin for 48 weeks, followed by a 24-week treatment-free follow-up period. The four dosing regimens are:
* A fixed-dose induction (360 mcg) of PEGASYS given once every week for the first 12 weeks then the standard 180 mcg dose of PEGASYS for the following 36 weeks.
i am a non responder,after 2 previous tratments with other interferons,now after having a liver biopsy my dr wants me to go on pegasys with copegus, he wants to prescribe the 180mcg/0.5ml shot along which is prefilled but he wants me to take some of the other prefilled shot which would make it more than the normal 180 mcg. i did not ask him exactly how much it will total cause i have doubts about this,i have never heard of this. and may just stick with the 180 once a week.
A few things, which are only just my opinion. It's not unreasonable to double-dose the peg, especially if you responeded slowly the first time around. In my experience, and I double-dosed for a short amount of time, I'd use Pegasys and not PegIntron. I found Pegasys to be milder than PegInton, I used both in different treatments. The double of Pegasys was less affecting than a single of PegIntron and a double of Pegasys was only about 25% more impacting than a single of Pegasys.
it seems like pegasys and pegintron dosages are somewhat similar. 180mcg/week pegasys is maybe like 120 pegintron (based on reported side effects and my wild guess) (for a 170 lb person)
based on general complaints about infergen dosing, it seems to be much stronger.
recommended dosing is 3 to 9mcg, 3 times a week. this would only be 27mcg/week
on the high dose side.
i failed with single shot pegasys and 1200 mg. riba 2 years ago on 48 week regiment,and now im on double shot pegasys and 1200 mg. riba until undetected,then finish off to 72 weeks with single shot.im also hiv positive ,doing well with the virus.the fact that i failed first treatment,is this current treatments sucess in my favor taking into account my hiv status and the fact of not responding the first time.
If you are on triple therapy for genotype 1 and undetectable then your doc is following AASLD protocol for anemia management

I searched the internet and didn't find anything. My non-scientific mind wonders, If not contraindicated why the two drugs could not be combined along with ribavirin and possibly produce a better result.
m going to suggest the opposite of what MerryBe mentioned. Pegasys is not weight-based dosing. The 180 mg is one-size-fits all. PegIntron has weight-based dosing, it is a a different Peg. Pegasys is alpha 2A and PegIntron is alpha 2B. On the riba side, and at 111 pound / 50 kg the correct dosing (in the range of 13 to 15 mg per kg) is in the vicinity of about 700 mg per day. You are taking 600 and were taking 800.
PSI-7977 is an oral uridine nucleotide analog polymerase inhibitor of HCV. Pharmasset recently completed dosing in a 28 day Phase 2a trial to evaluate PSI-7977 in combination with Pegasys (pegylated interferon) plus Copegus (ribavirin) in treatment-naive patients chronically infected with HCV genotype 1. Pharmasset expects to initiate a 12-week Phase 2b study of PSI-7977 in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The package insert has the storage and warning instructions - the interferon should be between a certain temperature range, neither too warm or too cold. When my power went out, Roche immediately offered to replace a month's worth of meds, even though the syringe liquids weren't even yellow or cloudy. My nurse agreed and said she would have insisted if Roche had waffled.

You're at the right forum, I haven't been treated yet but some of the other people have, I'm genotype 1 as well. You're talking about Pega-interferon or Pegasys right? I think around ten years ago there was a hellish form of interferon, that's not used anymore, maybe someone will comment on that. Check back, I'm sure someone will stop by and say something.
